Huff does it again -- an interesting storyline, strong character development, twists and turns in the intrigue, and descriptive narrative, and faith elements that aren't preachy.
I enjoy reading and watching spy movies and books however it's hard to find any without all the language . But with Andrew Huff's Right Cross I found one that gave me clean spy story. That focused on the spy stuff without the extra stuff that I didn't like. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
This “Shepherd Suspense Series” has been intriguing reading, This is the last book in this series, and in several ways, I think it was the best. We’ve followed John Cross and Christine Lewis through a very suspenseful storyline and watched their relationship develop from friendship to romance. If you haven’t read the previous two books, it would be helpful to read those first so you can fully appreciate the exciting end to this series.
This story was quite the page-turner. There are several different unexpected twists that kept the story fresh and exciting and I found it difficult to find a place to pause as I was reading the book. I have also appreciated the spiritual/faith aspect of the book. In this particular story, Christine especially has to lean on her faith and trust in God during a a difficult and uncertain time. It was a great reminder to me to remember that God always has a specific time and purpose for events in my life.
I always hesitate to compare one author with another, but if you enjoy reading Joel Rosenberg’s books, you’ll enjoy this one, too. I love Andrew Huff’s writing in style, and was very happy to see that he has another series to follow this one. This series is proof that clean, faith-based book can be just as exciting and suspenseful reading as its secular counterparts.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Though it started slow, the book evolved into a nicely done faith-based thriller. Starting with a startling arrest in England, the setting moves quickly to Washington DC and its suburbs and on to Cheyenne Mountain, the former home, and now, of the alternate command center, of NORAD.
This is the third book in which John Cross finds himself fighting the terrorist organization going by the name of Forge. It was never clear what purpose and motivation drove Forge’s activity - but whatever it may be, they were set on destroying much of the US and its nuclear arsenal. John Cross and his team of allies (including a journalist, members of MI6 and the CIA, and members of the US Air Force) would need to fight hard to defend America as we know it.
At times the faith was a bit more of a distraction than I have found in many of the faith-based thrillers. The plot is riveting and full of the grit that many will expect in today’s suspense and thrillers titles. I give Right Cross 3-½ stars.

Right Cross by Andrew Huff is the third and final book in the Sheperd Suspense series. Huff did a fabulous job taking us on a roller coaster with the action / adventurer and the romance.
I recommend reading all three books however each one stands alone. But the series takes you through the adventures and decisions John makes as he tries to retire from the CIA and become a pastor.
We open with John in a prison and we have to wonder if he has lost it or on another mission. Christine flies over to see what is going on and gets involved. The book takes you on a wild ride as we track a madman across the globe and end up in the states.
We see more of Guin in this book which lays the ground work for the next series. I cannot wait!!! I also thoroughly enjoyed that Lori had a role in the book too.
I recommend if you like a Christian mission impossible.
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

Can Christine & John manage to survive...?
Wow! What an explosive finish to an already exciting series! Take a shocking arrest, more than one daring escape, some international terrorists, a secret target, toss in a few blazing guns, and add a little romance, and you get the recipe for a wild ride of a Christian thriller!
As soon as I finished the previous Shepherd Suspense Novel I was desperate to read this book. How could Andrew Huff leave me hanging like that?! It just wasn't fair! Fast forward to the present when I finally got my mitts on a copy of Right Cross. Finally, those pesky loose ends get some resolution, in between John Cross and Christine Lewis dodging even more bullets, of course.
Right Cross was a strong addition to the Shepherd Suspense series and every bit as good is its predecessors. I was impressed with Andrew Huff's ability to pen a second, and now third, novel in a series and maintain the levels of danger, action, and suspense.
Whether you are a guy or a girl, if you like thrillers that entertain but don't compromise your faith, you've seriously got to try Andrew Huff's Shepherd Suspense series. Right Cross and the other two books, read them in order for the best experience, will keep you on the edge of your seat and flipping those pages as fast as you can read them. What are you waiting for?

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the Sheperd Suspense series by Andrew Huff, and looked forward to the third and final installment. Right Cross did not let me down.
The book opens with John Cross in prison…in England and ramps up from there. Turns out, John is back on a mission with the CIA (the place he keeps trying to escape but gets pulled back into).
Huff’s books are quick reads for me because I am so involved in the suspense. From prison to a US aircraft carrier to the mountains of Colorado, readers cross the globe with John and Christine as they chase down a madman—one who is a match in intelligence if not brawn to John.
While this book can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the entire series in order as the character development and relationships are well established. Plus, the ending of the series is much more meaningful when you know what John and Christine have gone through together.
And there’s a new series coming from Huff featuring Guin (who we’ve met throughout the series) and a new character we meet in Right Cross. I, for one, can’t wait to read what the author has cooked up for this new team.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
“Just imagine. An assassin with the CIA has a spiritual awakening and leaves the shadows to become a beacon of light to the pious of rural America. What a story that might have been.”
“Life wasn’t about avoiding the fires altogether but about who you walked through them with. For him? Jesus, of course.”
“I can’t save anyone. Not even myself...But that doesn’t mean every life isn’t worth fighting for.”
Another action packed adventure with John Cross and Christine Lewis. Like A Cross To Kill and Cross Shadow, Right Cross has the perfect blend of action, suspense, faith, great characters, and enjoyable settings. I liked how Andrew Huff started in England, then went to Mechanicsville, Virginia, and then Colorado Springs. And like all of his books, this one could easily be turned into an entertaining movie. Looking forward to Task Force Phantom.
* I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and Kregel. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.*
Previously, I read and reviewed the book A Cross to Kill which I described as "CIA operative turns minister." Author Andrew Huff has continued the story of John Cross and Christine Lewis in two additional books Cross Shadow and Right Cross.
Right Cross begins with main character John Cross in jail, denying his faith, and Christine in shock over the events! The tension and excitement throughout the book continues as we follow John and Christine's adventures. International cybercrime, military bases, and the potential end of the world are all featured in this riveting story. You will be on the edge of your seat wondering if the two main characters will survive! Each one, and particularly John, struggle with how they can faithfully serve God and use the gifts and talents they have been given.
Right Cross is the final installment in this trilogy. While you could read it without having read the others, your understanding and enjoyment of Right Cross will increase if you have read the earlier books particularly as the final book builds on the second. Published by Kregel, this series is free of sex and foul language but not violence due to the CIA connection. Christian themes are included, but they do not overpower the story. This series appeals to both genders as it has enough violence to interest the fellows and just enough romance to keep ladies interested as well. This is definitely not your typical Christian fiction and will appeal to readers high school age and up.
I received a complementary copy of this book from Kregel Publishing. I was not obligated to provide a positive review.
I have enjoyed this series featuring John Cross. His character is really unique. He's been a CIA operative but then got saved. He has all the expertise from his CIA training so he can outwit the smartest and worst of the villains. He also has the moral character of a Christian so he refuses to kill anyone. This makes for some tense confrontations.
Huff gives readers a good balance of action and character development. The action revolves around a top hacker who has the evil desire to control some nuclear warheads. This villain has a group of well trained military style men and many advanced offensive devises. John has to be at the top of his abilities to prevent disaster.
The character development comes from previous novels as John is ready to finally allow his growing love for Christine be evident. Just when I thought there would be a lengthy passage of character interaction between the two, bad guys arrive and suspense ensues.
Besides top suspense and touching character interaction, the real strength of this series is the reality of the Christian life John and Christine portray. They think and act and pray like real Christians do. Huff's characterization of Christians is perhaps the most realist in fiction I have seen.
This is the third and final novel in this series yet read very well on its own. It's a good book for readers who like international suspense.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
John Cross wants to leave his old life behind, but it seems to keep coming back. Asked to do one more mission for the Company, he agrees, but gets more than he bargained for. Swept back into the world of danger and intrigue, Cross will have to once again use his skills while working to stay within his faith.
The struggle Cross faces of old life vs new life serves as a good illustration of what most Christians face. Our past keeps coming back to remind us of what we’ve done while we try to seek God’s will for the future. Though that message is good in itself, the story that accompanies it makes for a good read.
The action is fast-paced and keeps you wanting to find out what is coming next. Though you might have a good idea how things will turn out, as far as good vs bad winning, there is more than enough in the plot to keep you from being bored. It was a great story all the way through.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
A thrilling conclusion to the Shepherd Suspense trilogy!
I enjoyed seeing the end of this series as I had liked the first two books, this one was more rushed, to me? Which wasn't bad but I found that the plot jumped from place to place at points but that's my only "complaint" otherwise I loved getting back to the world of the Shepherd Suspense books.
I look forward to seeing where Andrew Huff goes next.
Recommendation: 18+ for suggestive comments from the villain, saying that the characters cursed, and other small things like that that add up to be a little much for 16 or younger.
Right Cross is a military guy with a straight shot who turned pastor as he chases bad guys and try to rescue the woman he slowly fell in love with. From the first chapter, readers are taken on a ride as John Cross rushes through and over danger. This time, the story starts in a prison and appears that John Cross has turned to the dark side. There is prison fights, riots, and an escape. This leads to Christine and John reuniting with each other and testing their budding relationship. I love the Lori character. She is a fabulous sounding board. She is the religious voice of reason and sarcastic too. Reminds me of my aunt who passed away in 2015. The rest of the story is a thriller with a threat to America’s National Security. Bullets flying. Bodies dropping. Helicopters through the mountains. The story definitely has the chase with tons of action feel. BUT it was an okay novel, not one of my favorite stories. I have read the first one but not had the opportunity to read Cross Shadow currently. I believe fans of James R. Hannibal might enjoy this novel too.
I received a complimentary copy of Right Cross from Kregel Publishing , but the opinions stated are all my own.
