Volume 3 did nothing disappoint! I'm really enjoying watching the group continue on their journey and inspire everyone around them. Miroku is a treasure and should be protected at all costs. This volume was a little slower than 1 and 2 now that our guys are established, but it is still full of all the interactions that make this series a gem. That ending should've been illegal though! I can't get my hands on volume 4 soon enough.
Such a fun , entertaining manga . I found this storyline super interesting . We follow this man who is toonold to be part of J pop group but wants to make the cut . Very inspiring , light read . Definately reconmend !!
That Part of Him Has Never Changed
I didn’t find book three of Ossan Idol very entertaining. There is no fun idol performances or drama. This is more of the backstage look at making an idol business. The plot is mostly about the group hiring new employees. As well as Mihachi Osaki, the beautiful older sister, being pestered by intense men. There is quite a bit of complaining that they are ossans, or middle-aged men. Which was funny in the previous manga, but it has run its course. The art is relatively plain, and Miroku wears the same hoodie for the whole manga. Fumi has a cute story arc as she delves more into her admiration for Miroku. With an emotional trip down memory lane for Miroku. Hopefully this book is a lead up to more exciting stories in the next volume.
Review to come May 2nd on blog/goodreads.
I received this manga from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I am always hyped to see a new volume of this manga series appear. It is just so much fun! I love idols and this one is even more special because it has older idols!
In this one an anime is made, songs are sung, debuts are done, old and new characters appear, celebrations, and more!
We meet several new characters. Like Momoka, who I am not sure if I like or not. How she acts around people, how she talks, it was just soooo fake and annoying. I don't like it when people act all cutesy and sweet and then act bitchy the next time. I am glad someone talked to her about things, but seriously, I wonder if this girl will act normal the next time. :|
Then we meet a highschool friend of Miroku! I loved this part a lot! We get some more information about Miroku in high school, see some scenes, and get to know more about the girl.
Ono? Ugh, what a horrible horrible little poop that dude is. Someone is clearly not interested in you. A girl clearly expresses that she wants space, that she doesn't want to be touched, that she wants to be alone. She clearly has a boyfriend, or well someone she is interested in. Fuck off then. And if the boyfriend/love interest appears? And also clearly says some words? Then fucking respect that. I am sorry, but this part just pissed me off so badly. How Ono just shrugged off anyone's opinion regarding the sister. Oh, but I will just try. I will win. What the fuck, no. Just leave it. I am glad to see how this one ended, and I loved seeing Yoichi just go from normal to bloodlust. Haha, oh you don't want to screw with that guy.
OMG, that ending! Finally! I was already wondering when someone would spill the beans because it was getting a bit annoying with the whole who saved Fumi stuff and her not knowing, Miroku not telling. I cannot wait for the next volume and see how that scene continues.
All in all, I am so happy with this volume! I cannot wait to see more live shows~
Thank you to Tokyopop and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange an honest review!
I was so excited to be able to review this ARC ahead of the publication date. I've actually read Volumes 1-2 already, so I was ready to read Volume 3. Ossan Idol! is about Miroku, a 36 year-old Japanese man who is overweight, a shut-in (never leaves his house), and unemployed. In Volume 1, it's revealed that he was fired from his job because his company, a health food company, didn't want an overweight man promoting their products. I thought this discrimination was completely unfair, but without this backstory, we wouldn't have an actual story. He decides to slim down. Later, a clip of Miroku singing and dancing goes viral, and he joins an entertainment company to become an 'idol" or famous singer.
Volume 3 continues the story of the previous two volumes. The volume gets more in-depth into the relationships between Miroku, his sister, and their love interests. Some people declare their affections for Miroku and for his sister in this volume. In addition, a new female idol is introduced in this book. I can't wait to see how her plotline continues and if she becomes a rival for Miroku. I also want to note that although the cover may look like it, this is not a book about M/M romance This is mainly a light-hearted, comedic, underdog story of a man rising from the ashes to achieve his dreams of becoming a famous singer. In fact, in this volume, Miroku goes on a date with a woman. I highly recommend it for fans for the J-Pop idol industry or fans of a typical underdog-story manga. Ossan Idol! reminded me a lot of Idol Dreams by Arina Tanemura, one of my favorite manga artists, so readers of that series should check out this one as well. If anything in the premise sounds interesting to you, you should check out this manga series! Volume 3 comes out at the end of this month, but Volumes 1-2 are out already.
