'Super Potato and the Greenhouse of Evil' with story and art by Artur Laperla is a graphic novel for young readers about an unusual superhero.
Super Potato is now Super Super Potato, but will that be enough power for him to capture his arch-nemesis Doctor Nemesis who has broken out of prison? First Super (super) Potato will have to battle Boris the Spider, then figure out how to defeat Doctor Nemesis' new evil plan?
The art's a bit rough, but I like it and I think it's a good read for younger readers. I like the character designs and the wacky villains.
Thanks to NetGalley and Lerner Publishing for access to this ARC! "Super Potato and the Greenhouse of Evil,' is another fun and unique addition to the series. My son (age 9) enjoys following the wild adventures of Super Potato. The storyline is quirky, unusual, and entertaining!
When the new prison warden at the maximum security prison took over, things had to change for Doctor Malevolent. He’d been spending his time in his cell following his passion, floriculture. But warden Magpie LASTNAME has an allergy to pollen. SO all his beautiful plants had to go.
That’s when Doctor Malevolent decided to escape. With the help of Boris the Spider, he made a balloon out of a bed sheet, a laundry basket, and some gum, and flew away.
And when that happened, there was only one hero they could call on—Super Potato. Although after his last assignment, he’d gotten extra buff, so now he’s Super Super Potato. And now he’s super super on the job.
He starts by scanning the city day and night, but he doesn’t see Doctor Malevolent. So he decides to try the Laughing Skull Club, a known hangout for the bad guys. Super Potato doesn’t find the Doctor, but he does find Boris the Spider. After an intricate fight, Boris tries to buy his escape by telling Super Potato is in an abandoned manor near the sinister old woods. SP takes Boris back to the police station despite his help.
But now, Super Potato knows where to look for Doctor Malevolent. He finds the sinister old woods, and then the abandoned manor, and then he hears music coming from the greenhouse. And that’s where he finds Doctor Malevolent . . . and Gladys. Gladys is a giant carnivorous plant who is soothed by music. But once the music stops, then she gets nervous. And when she gets nervous, she wants to eat.
Will Super Potato be able to get away from Gladys and bring the Doctor to justice, or will be become a tasty potato snack for a giant superhero-eating plant?
Author and illustrator Artur Laperla has created this adorable graphic novel world that is colorful and whimsical, with bright illustrations and playful stories. Super Potato and the Greenhouse of Evil is fun and entertaining, charming and witty, and it can bring a smile to the faces of children and adults.
I really loved Super Potato and the Greenhouse of Evil. While the story was pretty simple, the journey of the book is so much more. Seeing the bright colors in the art, reading about these big personalities, and knowing that good will win out made me so happy. Reading this book just made me happy, and what more could you ask for?
Egalleys for Super Potato and the Greenhouse of Evil were provided by the Lerner Publishing Group, Graphic Universe, through NetGalley, with many thanks.
Lots of fun, would recommend it to kids who like Captain Underpants and Lunch Lady books. Probably good for 2nd grade - 3rd grade.
While not my personal cup of tea, this will absolutely appeal to young kids who love a fun adventure with a little bit of a scare in the story. Super Potato is a fun super hero that young kids can get behind and learn a little as well as they read. The illustrations are lovely and vibrant and will also draw the kids in and the story really will be fun for them. I would absolutely recommend this to families with young children as they should love it and Super Potato!
Thank you to NetGalley, Artur Laperla and Lerner Publishing Group for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a graphic novel that kids would like. It is silly like Captain Underpants. Not the best book I have ever seen for kids, but it is something that they would like and it would get them reading.
My son loved this book! It is his first graphic novel, so he loved the format.
One of our favorite things while reading the story was the illustrations. They're colorful and engaging and my son loved them. It kept him interested in the story and even helped me to "read" some of it based on context clues provided by the illustrations.
Overall, a great graphic children's book!
Lightweight early reader comic with some absurd characters and silly fun action plots. The idea of a potato superhero is fun.
In Super Potato and the Greenhouse of Evil, Doctor Malevolent has escaped prison after his plants are taken away by the director. Super Potato must find him before Doctor Malevolent can execute his new nefarious plan!
The story is simple but exciting. The illustrations and colors are great. The characters are unique and interesting. The panels are also simple, so using this book to start teaching your young one how to read a graphic novel would be a great tool!
Thank you to NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for the ARC
This was honestly so funny and wholesome and silly. It's just a very light hearted superhero story about a potato who has to go after a flower-obsessed supervillain. I laughed so much!
This has lovely illustrations, and is a fun, entertaining read. Definitely appealing to all children, and also fun for you as a parent to read. Not too complicated a storyline but also engaging enough to hold attention!
Thank you to NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
It was a beautiful and simple comic novel that give me vibes of Powerpuff girls. It was simple and basic enough so children can easily follow it. In the title why he isn't super super potato?
Fun graphic novel featuring Super Potato saving people from the evil Greenhouse. Very enjoyable and my students would love it.
A fun comic for children that is a lot of fun, and made me laugh, and I'm ancient.
Very colourful, fun art, and just long enough (doesn't outsay its welcome, I mean).
If I have one criticism it's that it should be called Super Super Potato and.. etc.
Thank you for the chance to read this book in exchange for honest feedback. I will be honest -- straight off the bat, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book based on the cover. I know, it's bad to judge a book by its cover. But I read the blurb and thought it sounded pretty good, and here I am.... I will say that I am glad that I was accepted to read this graphic novel. It was a delightful read, with great illustrations and fun panels. I read it before I went to bed one night and was left thinking about trying out other graphic novels. It is definetly one of the genres that I would like to explore more. This book helped spur some thoughts about trying others out. I liked the delivery of the story. Sometimes, you don't want anything overly complicated. This was visually appealing and entertaining. Good enough for me.
This was my first graphic book and it was so good. My children loved it too!
A good story with lots of interesting facts about plants that will encourage children to find out more.
Bombastic, colorful, vivid, engaging...Super Potato is sure to bring some book love for young readers, and older readers who enjoy the comics/graphic novels medium, as well. It is humorous and action-packed fun!
I loved this book! The illustrations are colourful and entertaining. The story was informative and also funny.
I’ve never read a comic before but I will definitely be looking out for other titles from this author.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
A slightly entertaining comic aimed towards younger children. The story is fairly simplistic but easy to follow along with. It has a lot less depth than even many cartoons do though. I did chuckle at the parody of some more well known characters.
