This is a great preview of what I'm sure will be a hilarious and charming story! It has one of the best meet-cutes I’ve read in a long time, although meet-disaster is probably a more accurate description.
The story is about event planner Kate Sweet, also known as the Queen of Happily Ever Afters, and horror writer Drake Matthews, the Knight of Nightmares. Kate is helping a friend by planning the book launch for Drake’s latest novel. But their worlds are turned upside down right from their first meeting. The first four chapters were amazing, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book!
The premise presented in the synopsis made it sound like fun, and I can’t resist a good rom-com, so I had to check it out.
After a somewhat unoriginal first chapter, the second picked up with a tragically awkward and hilariously cringe-worthy meet-cute of sorts, which is then expanded into the next two chapters.
Normally this would keep me reading, but I found the writing fairly flat and that sort of killed the appeal of what could have been a really funny and charming series of events.
The story sounds like it could be really cute and funny (despite the wedding planner bit which is kind of overdone, sorry!) but the writing is... well, really dull. Describing things just isn’t enough, and this reads a bit like everyday fanfic to be perfectly honest. I didn’t feel like the story quite came to life, which is a pity because it could have made for a really fun read I would have loved to add to my reading list.
2 1/2 stars
I'm starting to think that preview for 1 - 4 chapters for certain books just isn't enough! This was such a captivating read and I'm literally waiting for its release date as I just went and preordered!
loving the beginning of this adorable story and can't wait to read the rest! full review to come on the full book
Oh how fun! This story already has such promise - even in just the first four chapters! The romance, chemistry, and humor are so great. I'll definitely want to read the full book.
SO much chemistry already just from the preview! Can't wait to read the rest - it's already got me hooked, and I think you will have a good hunch about this book too!
This was so much fun! I got the full ARC as well as this preview and I immediately started reading the ARC after I finished these first four chapters because I was hooked.
I love the concept, characters and the small town setting!
You know when you start a book and it just has that magical SPARK from the very first line? This book absolutely has that! I flew through this sample with a giant smile on my face the whole time. This book has wit and I love the characters already! I loved seeing Kate rocking it at her wedding event with her “Aww” moment (and I loved the first line when she asks her assistant if the pumpkin is in position; it’s just such an unexpected question to ask and it made me laugh). I enjoyed her phone call with Imani, her best friend, especially when Imani tells her Drake Matthews is “a regular-ish guy,” and her response was, “What’s the ‘ish’ part?” I laughed out loud! But my absolute favorite part so far is being inside Drake Matthews’ head and finding out he actually hates the spooky event plan and, even better, is afraid of blood. A horror writer afraid of blood, I just love it so much! I loved absolutely every second of this sample and I NEED to read the rest!
I had never heard of this book before seeing the four chapter preview and after looking over the summary I was intrigued enough that I decided to give the preview a chance. I really wasn't sure going in what I would ultimately think of this book since I had never seen anyone mention it or even the author but I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed the preview of this book. The characters seemed likeable and fun and I liked what I had read so far. If I had to guess what I would end up rating this book after reading the full thing I would guess between a 3.5 and 4 star rating. But of course with only 4 chapters read the rating could easily change in either direction depending on where the story goes. This is definitely a book that I will keep on my radar and potentially pick up the full version to continue reading.
I loved the preview and will be requesting the full book. The main characters already had lots of chemistry.
Appreciate the opportunity to sample the first four chapters. Now on to the actual book which I was approved. Will post formal review on book approval prior to publication date of July 13.
How Sweet It Is, is about an event planner named Kate Sweet who is convinced by her best friend to take on a book release for horror novelist Drake Matthews. Matthews reputation as the knight of nightmares casts him in a negative light and he's tired of it. Kate and Drake's first meeting turns out to be an epic disaster, how will they survive until the book premier?
The preview of the first chapters gives you a good feel of the main characters. I loved reading about their interaction. There was comedy and some chemistry right away. The cliffhanger came way too soon. I'd like to read the rest of the book.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for a an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I want to finish this book right now!! I love the premise of this book! Kate and Drake’s meeting was tragically funny. This is definitely going on my TBR...can’t wait until it releases!
This book promises to be funny and sweet! I liked the main character, the description of the event in the beginning, and I'm excited to read about how this story will unfold.
What a great preview! I'm already hooked on this hopeful story between event planner Kate Sweet and broody author Drake Matthews! I'm so thankful Forever Publishing made this full title available as a Read Now, and I'll quickly be devouring the rest of this book!
Already through the first four chapters, I've laughed multiple times! Kate and Drake had such a hilarious meet-cute: "So, I panicked. I scaled him like a freaking koala on a eucalyptus tree!" Also, that cliffhanger at the end of chapter four?! I obviously am super anxious to know what happens next, off to go read more!
This chapter preview follows an event planner with a strong belief in the power of love and a reclusive horror writer. When they are forced to work together, chaos ensues. How Sweet It Is has been immediately added to my TBR! I really enjoyed the disastrous meet-cute and I’m curious to see how the story continues. The main characters initially seem like they couldn’t be more different, so I’m looking forward to seeing how they connect and go deeper than the surface-level appearances. The pacing seemed strong, I was eager to keep reading. I will definitely plan to read this book when it comes out! How Sweet It Is releases July 13, 2021. Thank you to Dylan Newton, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and Netgalley for a free chapter preview in exchange for honest feedback.
Kate Evans is an event organizer who is known to give her clients the best celebration they’ll ever have, or as they say, the “AHHHH” effect. When an event had been canceled, her time for the next few weeks were free from any planning and preparation. Until her best friend Imani calls and asks for her help to plan a book event for the famous Drake Matthews. Drake Matthews is known for his dark, nightmarish books. Will the Queen of Happily Ever After and the Knight of Nightmares be able to stand working with each other?
Thank you @netgalley for providing me this preview of How Sweet It Is. The story started off very well with the right pacing. It was super easy to read this book because there wasn’t a dull moment in these first 4 chapters. Already I could feel the spark between Kate and Drake which I bet they would be great for each other in this slowburn/ enemies to lovers like story.
Well, that title is simply perfect! This is such a sweet and charming read! I only got to view a preview of the first few chapters but from what I saw, I cannot wait to read the rest! The characters were immediately likable and the narrative flowed nicely. Thank you for the preview!
I really enjoyed the first four chapters of How Sweet It Is. Even though it's a short sample the story already promises to be a romantic and humorous one.
I'm already drawn to Kate who seems like a driven woman and I'm interested to see how the relationship between her and Drake will play out. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this fun and lovable book!
** review of 4 chapters. ***
I got the chance to read 4 chapters of this book. The fact I requested the full story says enough I think. I look forward to reading the book.
