David M. Kelly (https://davidmkelly.com) is the author of eight novels. Kwelengsen Storm was published in 2020 and is the first of his Logan’s World Series. It is the 11th book I completed reading in 2024.
Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own! Due to scenes of violence, I categorize this novel as R.
Logan Twofeathers is the head of engineering on Kwelengsen. Kwelengsen is the first habitable planet discovered by Earth and has been colonized by an Earth consortium. They are not the only humans in space. The Atolls and the Corporates also have a presence, and neither are friendly with Kwelengsen.
When a communications relay satellite goes offline, Twofeathers take a ship to investigate. He flies into the middle of an attack on Kwelengsen. His spacecraft is damaged and crashes onto the planet. This begins a string of adventures for Twofeathers.
Foremostly, he is searching for any word on his missing wife. Along the way, he must fight for survival against the elements and against the invaders. Reluctantly, he allies himself with Captain Manners, and the group of rebels she leads. Twofeathers is concerned with the civilians living with the rebels. He is willing to put himself at risk to help them. As Captain Manners leads the resistance efforts against the invaders, she increasingly shows signs of becoming unhinged.
Twofeathers feels himself being manipulated by Captain Manners but has few options. Many around him are injured and killed in the encounters with the invaders. While he feels Captain Manners is hiding things from him, he has no option but to carry on.
I enjoyed the 9 hours I spent reading this 314-page science fiction novel. I like the chosen cover art. I give this novel a rating of 4 out of 5.

A great start to a new series! This book had great character development and a interesting storyline to match. I cannot wait for the next book to come out to see where they go from here!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
KWELENGSEN STORM by David M. Kelly
A sci-fi, far out in space novel, a bit of militaristic, technical novel. Logan Two Feathers has in the past, discovered a new planet. He and his wife Aurore live there in the colony of Kwelengsen and are free from the chaos that is on Earth. That is, until the wealthy elites called The Corporation decide to take over the planet, aggressively.
Logan is an engineer, capable of flying the various machines that are available in this time period. He is able to pull parts from one machine and fit it to another of the same model.
Picture being on a planet that has been taken over by hostile forces. Every step you take is for your own survival. Logan feels responsible for the other settlers, since he discovered the planet. He takes every step available to help free prisoners of the Corporates, meanwhile, not knowing if his own wife Aurore is a prisoner or dead. His nephew Carl has survived the initial takeover, and he works to strengthen their relationship, which Carl fights against.
I enjoyed the book, as a good sci-fi novel, but the scientific machine engineering technical specs, not so much. I gave the book a 4 since this is the first book in the series and it leaves you hanging at the end.
Many thanks to #netgalley for the complimentary copy of #kwelengsenstorm I was under no obligation to post a review.
