Dr. Gottfried presents her Gottfried Protocol--in simplified terms, a modified keto diet for women that is more alkaline than traditional keto. She is an advocate of intermittent fasting. As with any drastic diet change, for goodness sake, consult your own physician first! She includes a section on what to do when you fall off the wagon as keto is fairly unforgiving and does not allow for "cheat" days. Also, half of the book is a collection of recipes and meal plans to help you get started. The book also includes an extensive bibliography.

This is a very informative and well laid out book. I did feel a little overwhelmed though with so much information to take onboard! If your someone that can follow a very precise plan then this really does look like it could be life changing for pre and menopausal women. It all makes complete sense and its pretty much certain that it would work if you stick with it.

Thank you Netgalley.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Gottfried & have anxiously awaited this book. Not only is she a practitioner, but she is a patient who is struggling with balancing her own hormones and managing excess weight, and often shares her journey via her instagram, Her protocol which is uniquely targeted at women & helps balance hormones, shed excess weight and introduce a modified keto diet. I am looking forward to implementing many of these solutions and think many other women will be thrilled that their needs are being heard.

This book is basically one, long, written infomercial for the author's diet plan -- the Gottfried Plan. It's basically the keto diet with intermittent fasting. I suppose, if one lived alone and didn't have a husband and kids to factor into meal times, it would be something she could implement, but as with most books covering this topic, the suggestions for meals and meal planning are just something that is not going to happen in a house with other people depending on mom to cook.

Women, Food, and Hormones by Sara Gottfried is a really interesting book with a great concept. I like how she introduces her plan and it seems that it might be easier to follow than some other “diet plans”.
It’s a 4 week program and I think I’m going to try it. I will post another review after to see how it actually worked for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

I have have been reading a lot about healthy eating lately and although I found the hormone theories interesting, the way it was all presented was a bit complicated. Counting ration and grams just seems very complicated and I think an online calculator or app to go along with this would be helpful.
