The Night She Disappeared is a twisted tale of friendship, love, deceit and horror.

There was quite a bit in this story I was not expecting. Those things were what really set this story apart.

I wish there could have been a little more to the ending but I do feel the ending was sufficient.

You really must read this story if you are a Lisa Jewel fan. You won’t regret it.

This one surprised me, and turned out to be one of my favorites by Lisa Jewell. It had multiple timelines, characters and POVs, but was never confusing. True to LJ fashion, this story felt very eerie and sinister, and had me questioning every turn. It had a slow build, but it was completely worth it. This book was super underrated in my opinion. I highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for my e-ARC.

The Night She Disappeared follows the mysterious disappearance of a young couple after a night at a party, leaving behind unanswered questions and a grieving mother determined to uncover the truth. As secrets slowly unravel, the plot takes unexpected turns that kept me guessing. While it's not my favorite Lisa Jewell book, it's still a solid, well-written read with great suspense. I didn’t see where the story was headed, which made it all the more engaging. Jewell’s talent for weaving mystery and intrigue shines through once again.

I love a Lisa Jewell thriller and this one didn’t disappoint. Minus one star because some parts of the reveal/ending felt a bit unbelievable and convoluted.

A young woman and her boyfriend disappear one night after visiting a friend's mansion after a party. The mother of the woman, Kim, doesn't think her daughter ran away as she wouldn't leave her young son Noah behind.

Sophie, the writer of detective novels, is an intriguing character, playing amateur sleuth as she hunts for clues for a new book. I like her perseverance as she gets to know the families of the two young people involved, and searches for the truth after examining the now derelict mansion, and interviewing friends and family of the couple The flashbacks in the narrative were at first unnerving, but ultimately work out fine to tell the story of the past and to help the reader see where the plot is advancing.

An enjoyable book with some surprises at the very end.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I have read all of Lisa Jewell’s books since she’s went into the “suspense” type writing and she never disappoints. The Night She Disappeared stood up to my expectations.

What I liked:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this cover. Lisa Jewell has some of the best covers.

The “scavenger hunt” aspect to the mystery. The whole “Dig Here” sign really had me 10 kinds of curious as to what Lisa Jewell had planned for these characters.

How I really did not know what was going on in the story for a long time. I had guesses and guesses and guesses, though.

Bottom line: You really can’t go wrong with a Lisa Jewell book.

This was my first book by this author and it was just AMAZING!

The plot and characters kept me completely invested and I couldn’t put it down! I thought I knew what the ending would be, but it was so twisted that even I couldn’t have dreamt it up.

I also liked the epilogue and what was included in that. Such a good twist!

Will be reading more books by Lisa Jewell for sure!

Lisa Jewell has quickly become one of my favorite thrillers authors. The Night She Disappeared was such a great read!

The story is set in two timelines: 2017, when 19-year-old Tallulah goes missing after heading to a party in the nearby woods, and 2019, when Sophie stumbles upon a mysterious note in the same woods, leading to the unraveling of a cold case. The alternating timelines provide an interesting perspective and build anticipation, gradually revealing the interconnectedness of the characters and their shared secrets.

"The Night She Disappeared" presents an intriguing premise and a chilling atmosphere but fails to fully capitalize on its potential. While the novel offers moments of suspense and surprises, it struggles with underdeveloped characters and pacing issues. Nevertheless, fans of Lisa Jewell's previous works may still find enjoyment in this decent mystery, although it may not rank among her strongest offerings.

I liked the concept of this book: a young couple disappears without a trace. What happened? Why can no one answer that question?

But this book struggled with the execution of that question. For starters, there are three timelines going at once. The first is the night that Talullah and her boyfriend Zach disappear and how Talullah's mother reacts and tries to find out what happened in the days following. Then we jump to present day (about a year and a half later) where a woman named Sophie comes to town and stumbles upon something that re-opens this case. Then we jump about 7 months prior to the night Talullah and Zach disappeared.

It was easy to keep the timelines straight, but it was a lot of jumping. Eventually the first timeline fades out so we are left with two, but it was a little too much jumping around for me.

I didn't love the Sophie timeline. I don't think her character was developed enough for me and I'm not sure why the police weren't more involved and it was just Sophie and Kim teaming up. There were a lot of things that the reader had to suspend disbelief on for this one, and while that's ok for some things, it was a bit much.

Overall, it was good, but a bit slow in the middle. I like thrillers that I can't put down and this one started that way and ended that way... but the middle dragged.

This book was quite enjoyable, and I would recommend this to fans of thrillers and Lisa Jewell. I like Jewell's writing and this novel did not disappoint! I had previously read "Invisible Girl," and I was happy that this book was just as well done.

3.5 🌟

19 year old Tallulah is a devoted mom to her 1 year old son, Noah. She lives with he mother, takes college classes, and has recently let her sons father, Zach, move in, even though she's not sure she loves him. While on a date night with Zach, the two teens make an impromptu trip to a pool party hosted by Scarlet, Tallulah's college mate. The two teens never return home.

Sophie is a cozy mystery author who recently moved to the same small town, a year after the teens disappear. Her home backs up to the property where Tallulah and Zach were last seen at the pool property. While there, Sophie finds a sign posted on her gate with an arrow and the words Dig Here. Intrigued (and suffering from a bit of writers block) she decides to dig...and what she finds opens the case up again.

This twisty thriller by Lisa Jewell is told from multiple POVs and timelines. This style of writing makes for a slow burn which made it more creepy in my opinion.

I really liked this story and always look forward to anything Lisa Jewell writes! Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I enjoyed this but felt it was weak at times. The pacing is uneven and I didn't love the abrupt ending, and figured out some of the connections between characters. I also really liked Kim a lot and wanted more of her and less of Sophie and her family drama.

THIS BOOK!! The Night She Disappeared was a captivating read and one I plan on recommending to others. Tallulah was an amazing character with so much depth and emotion that it made it so difficult to read about her struggles. Zach’s character, though malicious, was such a realistic character. So much raw emotion was conveyed between moments that it really makes the reader feel tense. I really enjoyed unraveling this mystery in my head, as it got me out of my reading slump from last month!
The mystery that Jewell wrote was one of the best I’ve read so far this year, and I can’t wait to read more! If you’re looking for an immersive, dark story, check this one out for sure!
