This dual storyline is very well done! It’s a bit different in that the storylines are just about a year apart. I’m used to these storylines being 50 years apart or more. The way the story was told made for perfect pacing and the tension built to a powerful conclusion!

The slightly older storyline features Tallulah, a young woman 19 years old, living with her mom, her baby and the father of the baby. We learn about Tallulah’s life in bits and pieces, and it left me craving more! The author cleverly and slowly shares more about her past and we work our way up to her disappearance.

We know Tallulah is devoted to her young son, so it just doesn’t make any sense that she doesn’t return from a date with boyfriend Zach. Something must have happened and probably nothing good. Her mother Kim tries to get to the bottom of their disappearance but there are no clues. Was life just too stressful and the couple skipped town?

The current day story features the new head of the local school and his girlfriend, a crime novelist, who move in at the start of the school year. Soon there are cryptic clues about the old case and Sophie, with her curiosity about crime, begins her own investigation!

Throw in lots of secrets around an abandoned old mansion and a boarding school, and you have the makings for a fun read. I really did not see the ending coming and that always makes for a good read for me! Lisa Jewell delivered on this one for me!

Loved, loved, loved this twisty, compelling story! This is definitely my favorite Lisa Jewell yet! The Night She Disappeared had all of my favorite elements in a mystery: great atmosphere, old school/manor house with secrets, a mystery writer solving an unsolved mystery and the trademark multiple viewpoints that Lisa Jewell nails every time! This is probably my favorite thriller of the year, and the story kept me absolutely hooked until the very last page. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!

Teen mother, Tallulah, and her boyfriend are going out on a long overdue date while Lulah's mother, Kim, watches their one year old son. Kim is excited that they can enjoy a night out but when they don't return the next morning she becomes increasingly worried. This story follows multiple timelines and perspectives. Tallulah, leading up to her disappearance, and Kim shortly after she disappears and a year later we follow Kim and Sophie as they try to solve the mystery of where the teenagers went.

At first I found the timelines and perspectives confusing but one I got it figured out I really enjoyed the story. This book felt a tad long through the middle but overall had some good twists and was a fun mystery to read. I always enjoy Lisa Jewell's books and look forward to more in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley for the copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. "The Night She Disappeared" is available now.

A teen mom and her baby’s daddy go missing. Two years later, a hint is found to what happened The Night She Disappeared. The handwritten sign ominously said, “Dig here.”

Usually, this author’s books are exciting and pulse-pounding reads. Unfortunately, I found The Night She Disappeared disappointing. The main characters never captured my attention. I wasn’t seeing myself in them. While the conclusion was exciting with a final twist, the middle felt overlong. 3 stars.

Lisa Jewell has such a way with stringing together multiple storylines that revolve around a central plot. I always wonder where she’s going with them, but the last few chapters tie them all together perfectly.

Her latest, The Night She Disappeared, is no different. And this one is in my top favorites of hers! It closely rivals Then She Was Gone and has some similar elements. This slow burning thriller with multiple narrators was entertaining and unpredictable.

RATING 3.5 STARS

Lisa Jewell always weaves a thriller with intrigue and not your run of the mill characters. I am from the Midwest and the setting in England and the colorful characters are vibrant and intense.

A mother waits for her daughter to come home from a night out with her boyfriend the father of her child. Kim is proud of her daughter Tallulah. She wants a better life for her young son and is going to school to be a social worker. Kim knows something is terribly wrong and does a little detective work in finding her daughter. During this process, the plot unravels in the characters and what really happened. The narration is done in present and in past and is done quite well. I was able to keep up and keep interested. What happened and why and who is the monster. Again like a good thriller, no one is who they seem and it brings good contrast.

A special thank you to Atria Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

A slow burn mystery that kept me on my toes! This is only my third LJ novel and it’s my favorite thus far!

What happened to Tallulah and Zach? In 2017 they go out for a night and leave their son with Kim, Tallulah’s mother. When the couple goes missing, everyone assumes they ran away together but Kim knows Tallulah would never leave her son behind.

Suspenseful & Unpredictable! I sat down and read this 400+ page book in a few sittings because I was obsessed. Triple POV that alternates between the past and the present. It’s a slow burn but the pace picks up towards the middle and once it picks up it doesn’t slow down. The ending didn’t shock me but some of the twists did! I read this one via ebook, but I’m guessing the audio would have been even better👏🏼

An atmospheric, wonderfully written suspense. The multiple points of view and alternating time lines heightens the experience as Jewell expertly weaves a story of obsession, friendship, and secrets.

This book is everything I love in a great thriller! Boarding school setting, missing persons, and an old abandoned house with a ton of mysteries. This novel is now my all time favorite of Lisa Jewell, so if you are already a fan this will not disappoint!

I loved the three povs. Tallulah (one of the missing teens), Kim (Tallulah's mom) and Sophie, a cozy mystery writer who begins to find clues about the year old mystery. The story unfolds through different timelines but is cohesive and seamless, giving just enough to want you to keep reading.

Jewell knocked this out of the park and mystery lovers everywhere should scramble to pick this one up!

Happy publishing day to this one! I finished it up just in time to celebrate the day! Thanks to @netgalley and @atriabooks for a copy to read.
2017: 19 year old Tallulah is going out on a date, leaving her baby with her mother, Kim. Kim waits and waits and waits for her daughter to come home but she never makes it home. Soon Kim is calling Tallulah’s friends trying to find her. All she can find out it that she left with her boyfriend at 3am to return home. 2019: Sophie is walking near the words of a boarding school where her boyfriend is working, when she sees a note that says “Dig here.” Soon the investigation into Tallulah and her boyfriend’s disappearance is back open.
Another great book with multiple timelines and multiple POV. We follow Tallulah in the lead up to her disappearance, Kim in the aftermath of the disappearance and Sophie 2 years later. This was a slow burn and I didn’t guess what would come to happen as it progressed! If you like other Lisa Jewell books, I bet you would like this one too!

Somehow, this was my first Jewell read but it definitely won’t be my last. This book is told from multiple perspectives (Kim, Tallulah, and Sophie) and a dual timeline, which really kept me on edge and needing to know what happens. I thought all of the POVS flowed together so seamlessly and finished this in a handful of sittings.

I loved Tallulah and Kim’s characters. Sophie’s was a bit less developed but still enjoyable. I also think there were some loose ends that needing tying with her. Also, it feels like there were one too many side plots/things thrown in just to make everything connect perfectly.

I did not guess the ending and thought it was good, but not something where I was floored and shocked. All in all, this was a suspenseful and addictive read. I’m definitely excited to read more from this author now.

This gets a 4 star rating from me. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

The Night She Disappeared
By Lisa Jewell

Have you ever followed a hunch and it came out to be true? This book might be for you..

Lisa Jewell has already solidified herself as a hit maker in the thriller genre. Her plots are memorable. Her characters are savvy and savage in the best of ways. But I think what makes her stand out the most is how solidly constructed her books are.

Let’s face it.

Thrillers have a tendency to stretch points that other genres would not be able to get away with. Twists can be so ludicrous that when you finally get to them it can feel like a letdown.

Lisa’s books however are written with all of the facts on the table. She tells you who does what, why, and how often. She doesn’t leave huge plot holes and her characters do not exhibit incongruous behavior.

This book, THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED is a fast-paced, solidly built, thriller that will satisfy her fans til next time and even catch a few new ones!

Don’t miss it!

Thanks to @netgally and @atriabooks for this advanced copy in exchange for me honest review!!

I’ve been a major Lisa Jewell fan since before booksta and could not wait to read her latest. And let me tell you, this book DELIVERS. It’s classic Jewell in the best way possible and I was hooked from page one.

Tallulah goes on a date, leaving her baby with her mother, Kim. Tallulah never returns home. Two years later, Sophie finds a clue that will rip this cold case wide open.

Add in a boarding school, a rich family with lots of secrets, an amateur sleuth and a creepy atmosphere and you have a winning formula.

Jewell’s writing pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The short chapters keep the pace tense and build suspense. The multiple timelines and POVs are expertly handled and add to the plot and character development.

My only complaint are the bags under my eyes after staying up late to finish the book!

Thriller fans, make sure this one is on your fall reading list!

Thank you so much to my friends @simonschusterca & Atria for the gifted copy to read and review. All thoughts are my own.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars

Lisa Jewell is an auto-buy author for me. She never fails to craft an intense, atmospheric thriller with complicated characters. The Night She Disappeared is another hit and I enjoyed this tale of murder and mystery in a small college town.

The Night She Disappeared is about a young mother disappearing, a grandmother’s desperate search for her, and the mystery writer who finds a clue that could be finally crack the case. The story has 3 timelines: Before the disappearance, immediately after, and then a year later. The mystery writer, Sophie, finds a sign that says “Dig here” and she does, which then throws her into the middle of the mystery.

This is a slow-burn thriller that most likely would have been a 5 star read had I listened to the audiobook. Jewell juggles all the timelines expertly and it was never confusing. I loved the cast of characters and the mystery author plot line was perfectly meta. The beginning grips you right away and you become very invested in the story and the relationships between the characters. As always, Lisa Jewell didn’t let me down.

A good read that keeps you guessing until you near the end, and even then, a surprise awaits. A very convoluted tale of a disappearance of a couple after a night of partying at the Dark Place, with complex Scarlett and her female friends. Where did the couple go, and why since the couple had a one-year-old child being tended by a loving and doting grandmother. The mystery lays fallow for a year until a mysterious group of clues begin to be dropped by someone who remains unknown. A dedicated mystery writer staying in the community discovers the first clue and rekindles interest in solving the disappearance by the grandmother and the police. Slow pacing is the only flaw in this great tale.

A novelist moves to the country and stumbles onto a clue connected to a missing persons case. As she gets to know the people in the village better, she discovers a dark story and the complicated connections behind it. Author Lisa Jewell writes with deft and experience but can’t quite pull all the elements together for a tight narrative in her latest novel The Night She Disappeared.

In the small English village of Upfield Common, Tallulah Murray feels stuck. She’s a teen mom with a one-year-old son and a boyfriend she doesn’t want. Despite the fact that they’re living together, Tallulah just wishes Zach would leave.

Even with the unexpected pregnancy and arrival of their son, Noah, Tallulah is doing what she can to get her life back on track. She’s attending college three days a week and spending her free time at home studying. Her mother, Kim, takes care of Noah while she’s at school.

When Zach first heard about the pregnancy, he didn’t want to have anything to do with Tallulah, but then he sees Noah and insists he’s changed. Before she quite understands how it happened, Zach talks his way into moving in with Tallulah and Kim. Tallulah waffles, but even she can’t deny that he’s an excellent father to Noah.

On the surface, everything seems to be fine. Zach starts saving money to move into a place of their own, and Tallulah is doing well in school. But the more Zach’s around, the more Tallulah wishes he wasn’t. No one sees how he checks on her multiple times a day, how he second-guesses where she goes and who she spends time with.

One night Tallulah and Zach go to dinner at the local pub where they run into some of Tallulah’s friends from college and decide to continue the party at home. People remember Zach and Tallulah hanging out by the pool and also that they talked about leaving. Then the two vanish into thin air.

A year later, mystery novelist Sophie moves to Upfield Common with her boyfriend Shaun. Shaun is starting as the headmaster of the private school in the village, and Sophie has come with him so she can get to work on her newest book. Soon after they move in, though, Sophie goes into the garden of their new home to explore and sees a cardboard sign tacked to the fence. It reads “Dig here.”

With her writer instincts on high alert, Sophie does just that and uncovers a piece of evidence related to Tallulah and Zach’s disappearance. Suddenly clues start to surface, and Sophie finds herself knee-deep in a real-life mystery. As she gets to know Tallulah’s mother, Kim, and works through all the information on hand, the truth of what happened to Tallulah and Zach becomes painfully clear.

Author Lisa Jewell has no problem building a compelling story. With expertise she drops bits of information to keep readers engaged all the way to the end to find out what happened to Zach and Tallulah. Flashbacks recount the story of Tallulah’s life up until her disappearance, but Jewell doesn’t let anything slip until the suspense builds to its highest points.

The trouble comes in the fact that some of the key figures in Tallulah and Zach’s disappearance don’t become major forces until later in the story. Up to that point, they don’t figure on the page at all. While keeping readers guessing is part of the game, there’s also a fine balance between keeping them guessing and pulling in story elements when they feel convenient. Here the balance tips more in favor of the latter.

Also, readers might be hard-pressed to decide just who the protagonist is. Sophie is the one who finds the evidence, but her contribution to the plot fades as Tallulah and Zach’s story becomes more prominent. Kim, Tallulah’s mother, also gets a considerable amount of time in the book, but Tallulah’s friend, Scarlett, later emerges as important. This could be confusing for readers as they try to figure out who to cheer as a protagonist and who the antagonist might be.

Diehard Lisa Jewell fans will certainly appreciate this one. For those looking for a good thriller to read, this may or may not fit the bill.

Another strong outing by a favorite author who knows how to build suspense . Richly developed characters drive this story of a teenage couple who go out on a date and never return home. They leave their 11 month old child with the girl's grandmother who seems to be the only one frantically missing the couple. Told in a series of flashbacks with a few timelines that resolve themselves near the end. Solid read.

I've enjoyed all of Lisa Jewell's previous books, but her latest - The Night She Disappeared - is a new favorite!
Tallulah and her boyfriend Zack disappear one night without a trace. Tallulah's mother Kim knows her daughter would never abandon her wee son. But a year passes and the police are no closer to an answer. That changes when a new headmaster and his girlfriend Sophie, a cozy mystery writer move into the village. When she finds a sign saying 'Dig Here" in her back garden, Sophie does. And the first clue to what might have happened is found...

Jewell tells the tale in three timelines with multiple points of view. I was hooked as every chapter gives us more hints to the past, more information in the present and a cold inkling as to what might have transpired.

Jewel gives us well drawn protagonists in grieving parent Kim and amateur detective Sophie. These characters are imbued with personal storylines as well, quite believable in their relationships, doubts, loss and more. Jewell ekes out the story of Tallulah before she disappeared and the reader can see what's coming as her narrative progresses. (Don't peek ahead though! I wasn't entirely right in my guess) There are plenty of supporting characters and each and every one of them seems to have trouble with the truth. Who should we believe?

I really enjoyed Sophie's sleuthing skills. I always wanted to grow up and become Nancy Drew, so mysteries are favorite genre. And Jewell has written a great one - the plotting is excellent, the settings are atmospheric (love the creepy mansion in the woods) and the varying timelines and voices really worked for me. And kept me up late as I really needed to know what (or who) happened to Tallulah. A great page turner.

Lisa Jewell strikes gold again with The Night She Disappeared, a wonderfully intense and suspenseful psychological thriller filled with drama, emotion and characters who are more than meets the eye.

Tallulah and Zach, a young couple with a one-year old baby, go out for date night and leave their young son Noah with Grandma Kim. As the next day dawns, Tallulah and Zach have not returned, and Kim finds out no one has seen them since a party the night before at a house dubiously named Dark Place. Fast forward 2 years they still haven’t been found when detective novelist Sophie has moved with her boyfriend from London to the country. While out for a walk in the woods, Sophie sees a sign that says “Dig Here” and obliges, finding an engagement ring. Curious, she starts to investigate the disappearance, finding new leads on the cold case that bring hope to Kim that they might finally find out what happened to her daughter and boyfriend. As the Sophie digs, game changing secrets come to light and the investigation gains momentum until the truth of what happened that night, and leading up to that night, is finally revealed.

Lisa Jewell expertly weaves together a compelling story with two separate timelines – two years earlier when Tallulah and Zach disappear and present day with Sophie investigating their disappearance – that converge in the end with the big reveal. This approach brilliantly ratchets up the intensity and suspense, propelling the reader forward with desperate urgency to find out what happened in the past and how it’ll finally come to light in the present. Add in every parent’s worst nightmare – your child disappearing without a trace – and The Night She Disappeared is edge-of-your-seat stuff that keeps you guessing with a consistent drip of twists and turns and several gasp-inducing moments.

The reasons Lisa Jewell is a New York Times Bestseller are on full display in The Night She Disappeared. It’s an extremely well written thriller with fast pacing and an intriguing story that twists your brain into knots trying to figure out what occurred and how it’ll conclude. It’s fantastic from start to finish and highly recommended for fans of top-notch psychological thrillers.
