The Night She Disappeared is told in three alternating time lines, and multiple view points. This took me a moment to get down, but they all puzzled together well in the end, and I liked the dynamic.
It all begins when a teenage mother named Tallulah, and her boyfriend go missing after a date night. Tallulah’s mom is babysitting her daughter’s son and when they don’t come home in the morning, she is very concerned. She’s convinced Tallulah would never run away from her baby and start a new life, but then, what happened?
There is quite the mystery element in this novel, and I felt excited for each new chapter, and to reveal another layer of the story.
The characters are interesting and unique and the tension was so thick. I felt like I was solving a mystery along with the characters as I read.
I was able to guess some of where it was going, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the read. It’s twisty and dark and one that will stick with me for awhile.
I think this is my new favorite Lisa Jewell book!

One night in 2017, a teen mom has her mother watch her baby boy so she can attend a party in the nearby woods, only to disappear without a trace. Two years later, mystery novelist Sophie is wandering the woods near her new house when she finds a note attached to a tree saying, "Dig Here." Lisa Jewell's dark thrillers are always my favorites, displaying the harrowing lengths to which humans can descend. The Night She Disappeared is a slow-burn mystery that is intriguing enough to grab your attention but not an edge-of-your-seat read.

First, a big thank you to the publishers at Atria Books and Netgalley for this e-ARC of The Night She Disappeared.
The Night She Disappeared is a multi-POV story told in 5 parts. This is a wonderfully paced, thriller of a book! I could not put it down!
Tallulah, a young 19 year old mother to her one year old son, Noah, is a local college student who has just finished her first year of college. Her boyfriend, Zach, decides to take her to the pub one night to celebrate the end of the year, and they never return. Kim, terrified for her daughter’s safety and confused as to why she’s left her son behind, reaches out to the local police to start an investigation.
Unfortunately, a year passes with zero clues and zero leads on where Tallulah and Zach went that night. Sophie, a writer of a detective book series, moves out to the little town where Tullulah was last seen and finds herself embroiled in the investigation after discovering a hidden object buried in her back garden.
Where are Tallulah and Zach? Why would they abandon their son? Is there more to this story than what’s on the surface?
The Night She Disappeared drops September 7th!
I really loved the non-linear timeline and the multiple POVs that this story offers. This is truly one of those stories that proves that nothing is at it truly seems. I loved how realistic the characters felt. They could be literally anyone on the street, hiding things from their loved ones. I didn’t know which way the story would go, but was pleasantly surprised by the ending! I would recommend this to anyone who loves thrillers, strong female protagonists, and multiple POVs.

Lisa Jewell is an auto buy author! This was such a good story and all the great twists and turns you've come to expect from a Lisa Jewell book. I thought every aspect of the book was very good. Nothing particularly blew me away. The ending was good, not great. I liked how everything tied together at the end. It was very good book, not a 5 star great though.

I want to give this more stars, but being my first book by this author I can say it isn't about the book being poorly written. It's clear that Lisa Jewell is a great writer! I'm just not used to the writing style, and not sure it's something I can get used to. Also, while the plot is fantastic, the pacing is a bit slow for my taste and it was a tad longer than it needed to be - in my opinion. I don't mind a long book if the story moves at a steady pace, but when it's a slow burn like this, I get too restless and want to start skimming. I know there are a lot of Jewell fans out there and I can see why. I just don't see me picking up another of her books. I do appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy to read and review.

4.5 out of 5 stars, rounding up here on NetGalley.
I loved this! I was intrigued from the very start, and read it very quickly. I really liked Sophie and Tallulah as characters, and I was suspicious of everybody else. I liked the alternating timeline, and it was clear when everything was taking place. I think this is my new favorite of this author!

Lisa you did it again girl! I fell in love with the characters and had to know how they were feeling at all times hence why I could NOT put it down

Lisa Jewell has become a go-to author for me. I love her stories, characters, mystery, suspense, and twists and turns. The Night She Disappeared has it all! This plot revolves around the disappearance of nineteen year old Tallulah and her live in boyfriend Zach, neither of whom would voluntarily leave their one year old baby. So what could have happened?
The story is written in three timelines, which added to the suspense and mystery for me. I found myself wanting to keep reading just to get back to where I had left off. I really liked the relationships between Tallulah, Kim and Sophie, and was genuinely invested in the outcome. If you like a good thriller, this is not one to miss!
Thank You to NetGalley, Lisa Jewell, and Atria Books for this advanced reader copy for my honest review. The night she disappears publishes 9/7,

I really enjoyed this book, it reminded me a bit of Then She Was Gone which was the first book I ever read by Lisa Jewell. I enjoy the mystery and the characters of the story. I would definitely recommend this book. The story included some really great plot twists.

One of my favorite things about Lisa Jewell is her consistency. I know when I read her books that it is a worthwhile investment of my time and money. In fact, I find her books to be stronger with each new release. This one holds true to that pattern. It and Inivisible Girl are my two favorites by this author so far.
While I love twists and turns in my suspense reads, I also need strong character development and a strong sense of place. This one delivers. I felt like I knew and understood each character in depth, and they were authentically written.
I was also equally invested in Tallulah and Sophie’s POVs. I find this to be rare because I usually almost always prefer one POV to another, and the back and forth format can be problematic for me. But Jewell is adept at it.
If you like character-driven, steadily building suspenseful reads, or any of Jewell’s previous books, you won’t be disappointed at all with The Night She Disappeared.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

A slow-burn of a thriller that ratchets up the tension with multiple timelines and points-of-view. I don’t think Lisa Jewell can write a bad book because even though I figured out the ‘who’ and some of the ‘why’ pretty early on in the book, I was still glued to the pages.

The beginning of this story was a bit confusing, due to the different POV’s and timelines. Once I got into the swing of things the flow was really good. Lisa Jewell is an amazing writer and helps us connect with the characters. It was a slow burn at first but before I knew it I was sucked in and wanted more.

I loved how Jewell wrote her latest book using different timelines and from multiple points of view. To me this created a well paced mystery that had me waiting with bated breath for 2017 to sync up with 2019. The back and forth between timelines generated the suspense I so desire and because of this, I was immersed in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 from start to finish. And let’s face it, short chapters with mini cliffhangers will always KEEP ME READING. Jewell added a few of my favorite elements to her mysterious tale…the quintessential private school and the ever so beloved “strange house” that both hoard secrets and lies galore! I loved the history of the Maypole House and all who dwelled there. I was obsessed with Tallaluh’s temperamental friends and their unsteady yet eager behaviors. 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 “𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞” 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐞). I was entertained observing the characters take on the dangerous work of investigating a threatening affair even though the police and officials were already involved. This is my first book by Lisa Jewell. That being said it was not a favorite of mine.
The story of Tallulah and Zac and the mystery of their disappearance is told from multiple point of views and not in a chronological order. I found that to be extremely confusing and I got bored with views pretty quickly. I know that Jewell is a first rate writer and I also know that she is well beloved. This just wasn't the book for me. I found out by the last quarter of the book that I didn't care about any of the characters and that probably overshadowed the rest of the book. I will of course read another book by this author and I'm sure that I will fall in line with the rest of her fans.

A campus mystery always intrigues me and so I was curious when I came across The Night She Disappeared on Netgalley. Thank you Atria books for my DRC. Floating between 2017 and 2018 the story centers around the disappearance of two teenagers and the events both leading up to and after it.
Well this was one twisted tale of love in all its many forms and the repercussions of each one. I enjoyed puzzling out what happened that summer night to Tallulah and her boyfriend and found the alternating timelines in effective way to plot out the story.
I found some of the pieces came together in what felt a little bit too easy of a manner but I was willing to suspend my belief. The ending was a bit wild but certainly fitting to the story overall a solid read that kept me guessing about what really happened and thinking long after about how twisted people can be.

Lisa hits with another one. Always keeps you guessing and always has just one more twist up her sleeve. This one was no exception, a tad slow in the beginning but not a disappointment.

I love Lisa Jewell. I will make no qualms about the fact that this is the case. This is not out of the ordinary, because this book has everything I have enjoyed from previous releases. Intrigue, romance, mystery, thrills, and an overwhelming chilling sense.
Tallulah is a young mother who suddenly disappears without a trace alongside her baby's father. For two years she is gone until Sophie moves to town and starts finding strange hints as to what has occurred with Lula. In typical Jewell fashion, until the very end we have no idea what is actually occurring, but the ride is fun along the way. Unlike any other book, this one was rather long but was a fast read nonetheless. The story was engaging, exciting, and transporting. I highly recommend this one as an accompaniment to a great long vacation weekend because you will definitely enjoy it, but it won't scare the pants off of you!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is my first Lisa Jewell book and you guys, I can't believe I haven't read any book by her until now. This is probably in my top 5 favorite thrillers of the year. It will be in stores on September 7, 2021 for CA $37.00 (CAD). I absolutely enjoyed all the characters in the book. I liked how it is set in England. My favorite characters are Kim and Sophie. I highly highly highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book very quickly and loved it! Tallulah, a young but responsible new mother, has disappeared along with her baby's father. They went to a party in the woods and then seemingly vanished. Kim, Tallulah's mother, takes up the search and uncovers some secrets along the way. I really enjoyed Tallulah and Kim's portion of the stories, but I would have liked to hear more about Sophie - I just didn't find her to be an interesting character. Overall, really liked this one and was surprised by several twists. 4.5 stars!

Thank you NetGalley & Atria Books for the eARC of The Night She Disappeared in exchange for my honest review.
Surprisingly this is my first Lisa Jewell novel that I've read, and it won't be my last. To be honest I'm not too picky when it comes to what sub-genre of thrillers/mysteries I read, but there is something addictive about fast-paced, relatively straight forward reads.
The Night She Disappeared starts by following three different women, in three separate timelines, that eventually converge. In 2016 Tallulah is a young mother navigating a rocky relationship and trying to carve a life for herself, in 2017 Kim watches her grandson Noah for the night only to find out her daughter and her boyfriend have disappeared without a trace, and in 2018 Sophie uncovers the threads of a mystery that started years ago. Told in five parts The Night She Disappeared spans across characters, generations and time to unravel what happened the night Tallulah disappeared and how it changed everything. I think that the audience is best served knowing as little as possible going into the story.
I have to say that I seriously love converging timelines, especially in thrillers, when they are well executed, and Jewell managed to expertly weave three separate timelines into one cohesive thriller that flies by. While this book is a quick, easy read it explored deeper topics than I expected it to such as the agency over a woman's body, the pressure and power of motherhood, how hard it can be to leave a toxic relationship and how love can dictate but not justify one's actions. The relationship between Tallulah and Zach had my skin crawling and stomach churning at points.
The biggest flaw in The Night She Disappeared was the lack of consistent character development. While Tallulah and Kim were both very dynamic, which made caring for them and wanting to know their fate easy, characters like Sophie felt more like a plot device, a narrator simply there to tell the present day portion of the story, than an actual lead. I think more time spent with Sophie outside of her involvement in the case would have made Sophie feel more important and have her ending actually mean something besides tying up loose ends. Even Scarlett and Liam jumped off the page more than Sophie did, no matter how much I wanted to like her. Also her attraction to Liam felt awkward and forced, and I'm not sure why it was needed. I am also not normally a huge fan of epilogues in thrillers, but this one was a great spin and an added twist I didn't see coming.
I would recommend this book to any thriller/mystery fans, especially those who enjoyed Gone Girl. I can't wait to read more of Jewell's books in the future.
