I always enjoy the work of Lisa Jewel. Her talent for writing suspense is impeccable and will forever be one of my favorites. She writes with such realistic detail you feel like you’re there living through the characters.

Enjoyable mystery. Quick paced with three distinct timelines that all come together to create a fast paced novel.. ideal for those who are looking for a mystery to read and who are fans of the authors previous works.

I loved this one!! Told in three timelines - 2016, 2017, and 2018 - we follow along to find out "who dun it" in this mystery of a girl and her bf who seemingly vanish into thin air.
I adore multiple timelines and POVs and I think Lisa Jewell did a wonderful job here!! She seamlessly went through timelines and POVs in a way that kept the reader engaged and wondering.
(Side note: I've seen a couple reviews saying this was a little long, but I thought the length was perfect!)
This was an absolute WIN for me!

Wow. I can’t believe I finished this book in a day. It was THAT good.
What I liked about it:
•a mother’s love (Kim & Tallulah)
•A badass main character (Sophie)
•how it all came together, everything that led up to the ending
What I didn’t like:
•it was slooow moving, but once it started to get there it really got there
•all the crappy side characters (Scarletts friends and actually her )
All in all a very solid read by Lisa Jewell. Thank you Atria books for the advanced ebook copy of The Night She Disappeared!

This was a great twisty thriller with multiple timelines and POVs!
Pacing felt a bit off and the story was a bit more of a slow burn than I would've liked - it didn't feel like any more exciting reveals or action started happening until 70% of the way through. Still, I would definitely recommend this to any mystery / thriller fans as a solid read.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review!

👍🏼: I really enjoyed it!! Her stories have the perfect amount of mystery & unsettling events for me if that makes sense 😂 I could picture this setting perfectly! The atmosphere of the eery abandoned mansion “Dark Place” was great. I enjoyed how the mystery & suspense continued to build with alternating perspectives & timelines. This was definitely a slow burn, but kept my interest the whole way through!
👎🏼: I have no real complaints about this one, besides the fact that I wasn’t extremely shocked by the twists. Halfway through I started to catch on, but still enjoyed the last minute twist at the end 😉
Overall, this was a great suspense/mystery read & I definitely recommend if you’re a fan of other Lisa Jewell novels! This was probably one of my faves.
Thanks so much to @atriabooks for sending me a gifted @netgalley e-ARC💙✨This one is out 9/7!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In 2017, young mother Tallulah goes out on a date with her beau and never comes home. Kim, Tallulah's mother, knows her daughter would never leave her baby for long, so when she still isn't home in the morning, Kim knows something bad has happened.
14 months later in the fall of 2018, Sophie, a mystery writer, notices a sign in her garden "dig here" and discovers something that leads to all kinds of secrets. Sophie loves a good mystery and can't help trying to figure out the mystery herself.
The mystery that is slowly revealed is the most intriguing part of this book. There are a few timelines and POV's that keep you guessing and each POV comes together in the end to the present time with a dark twist.

Lisa Jewell is a master storyteller. She is an expert and alternating pov’s and yet masterfully weaves it all together in a cohesive engaging novel .
She is one of my go to authors and this new addition did not disappoint,

This tense, slow burn, emotion filled mystery kept me intrigued. An old house with secrets. A quirky, rich friend with nothing to lose. An overpowering and manipulative boyfriend with everything to lose. So many possibilities. But what really happened the night 2 young parents go missing?
This was just the book I needed while on vacation. The quick chapters that changed timeframe and perspective kept me hooked and allowed me to get lost in the story (staying up way too late to read “just another chapter…or two…”). Clues were revealed at a steady pacing to make me feel satisfied with each reveal while still wanting more. And while the outcome wasn’t a surprise, there were enough nuances to keep it engaging, which meant I didn’t feel disappointed. Actually, I was content with the way it all unfolded and wound up. Maybe it was because I was in vacation mode. Maybe it was just good writing…which Jewell is well known for. And the writing definitely flows smoothly and effortlessly in this book.
This story is rich with characterization, and the characters are all so unique and different. Some I could relate to. Some I wanted to better understand. I found things to love about each one and plenty to hate about a few.
This book is more mystery than thriller. It has a murky underbelly, but Jewell doesn’t push that darkness to the sinister. There were parts that made me feel claustrophobic or a tad bit on edge, but they were short lived and not entirely menacing or ominous. (Considering this was a vacation read for me, I actually appreciated that.)
Ultimately, this book is about the power of control and the destruction caused by manipulation. That message may be more haunting than the disappearances it unravels.
Thank you Lisa Jewell, Atria Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book.

I love Lisa Jewell’s writing and I was very excited when I got a chance to review this arc from NetGalley.
This story is told in three alternating timelines and three voices: Kim in June 2017, Sophie in August 2018, and Tallulah in October 2016.
Tallulah is a 19-year-old mother to Noah, living at home with her mother, Kim, and boyfriend Zach. After a rare night out, Talullah and Zack go missing, leaving Kim to raise their son and search for answers about their disappearance.
A year later, Sophie moves with her boyfriend to Upfield Common as he is the new head teacher of Maypole, a private school for students who have to retake their A levels. Sophie is a writer of cozy crime novels, and she takes an interest in Tallulah and Zach’s disappearance. Soon, someone begins leaving behind clues.
Jewell manages to catch a mother’s heartbreak in the wake of her daughter’s absence, which is no easy task.. It’s not nearly as dark or as insidious as some of Jewell’s other books, but compelling nonetheless. The first few chapters are a bit dry, but it picks up quickly after that and I found myself eager to solve the mystery along with Sophie. I did wish there was a bit more of a conclusion at the end as I still had some unanswered questions!
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria books for this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

“In black marker, someone had scribbled the words ‘Dig Here’ with an arrow pointing downwards into the soil.”
Jewell is one of my auto-buy authors, and I look forward to reading her books every summer. She has a way of drawing me into the story and bringing all the characters to life while also keeping men on the edge of my seat, wondering what will come next. In her newest novel, The Night She Disappeared, Jewell did just that. I was hooked on the story and loved the fact that when I felt like I had predicted where the story was going, she said “nope” and changed course. The ending was not what I predicted at all, and while it might have felt a bit rushed, I was also eager to see how the story finally unfolded.
⏰ Dual timeline
👨🏽🏫 Creepy boarding school vibes
🏚 A haunted, deserted mansion
🤏🏼 A teensy bit too long
😐 Unpredictable, unlikeable characters
Now that I’ve finished the book, it’s back to waiting for Jewell to release her next book.
I recommend you read The Night She Disappeared if you enjoyed reading Local Woman Missing, Invisible Girl, or Don’t Look for Me.

Tallulah is a young mother, living at home with her mother, Kim, and her boyfriend, Zach. She wants out of the relationship, but she isn’t sure how to get out of it, especially because Zach has grown increasingly controlling. But after a night out, Tallulah and Zach don’t return home. Kim is desperate to find her daughter. Raising her grandson has been hard on her, and he needs his parents around more than ever. A year later, still holding out hope, we meet Sophie, the new headmaster’s girlfriend. As an author who writes detective novels, Tallulah and Zack’s disappearance draws Sophie in.
One of my favorite things that Jewell does when telling a story is slowly unfolding the plot through varying times and characters. You start to get a sense of what is happening, but then she goes into a different time and focuses on a different character. Those pieces will eventually come together, and it’s one of my favorite storytelling models. When reading other reviews before writing this one, I saw many people comment that this was a slow-burn mystery, and that’s apt. Overall, an addicting and enjoyable read. Thank you, Atria Books, for sending this along!

This book blew me away, I'm a huge fan of this author in general and I feel like this is my favorite by them so far! It was one of those books I just could not put down, because I needed to know what was going to happen next. The pacing was perfection, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I'm a big fan of books with multiple timelines and this one really hit it out of the park. Both storylines meshed amazingly.
Sophie as a character really brought everything together, not only was she inquisitive, she was unstoppable.
Kim does not give up, she needs to know where her daughter is, or what happened to her. I loved how they both had different theories, yet came together and really were there for each other.
I feel like this book is going to be a hard one to top. I love how it included family drama, and intense characters. If you are looking for a roller coaster of a ride, look no further. So far this is my favorite thriller of the year.

Thanks to Atria for the free book.
I usually enjoy Jewell's thrillers, and this one is no exception. It is a slow burn, so it took me a while to get into the story but, once I did, I could not put this down. I liked how the timeline slowly built the suspense. Jumping back and forth between characters and years worked for me for this story. I also liked the juxtaposition between what Kim thought was going on and Tallulah's POV. I just wish there were more spiders, especially with how the book begins. But the epilogue was perfect.
If you love a good suspense, this one releases next week. If you've never read Jewell before this would be a good one to start with.

A slow burn mystery that got bogged down in domestic drama. While the last third of this book tried hard to shock overall this book was a disappointment.

I loved this book. I loved the characters so much! Well most of them. And I have to say some I should not like I felt bad for them. The storyline was amazing I kind of saw where Lisa was taking us in this book but i was shocked at the ending. And really shocked at the last little chunk for information that Lisa revealed at the very end!

Fans of Lisa Jewell will not be disappointed. The Night She Disappeared is an atmospheric thriller that follows a mother's desperate search for her teen daughter-a mother herself. The story unfolds with perfect pacing, well-developed characters and queer representation. It's a must read!

When Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach disappear after an evening out at the local pub, her mom tries in vain to find them knowing that she’d never voluntarily leave her baby boy. Then two years later Sophie, the girlfriend of the new headmaster at the local college, finds a sign posted in their garden saying, “dig here,” just like in the mysteries she writes. Sophie finds an engagement ring, leading police to reopen the missing persons case of Tallulah and Zach.
Told in alternating chapters of 2019 and 2017, this one’s hard to put down.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So. Damn. Good. This author never disappoints! I love how she unfolds the layers of every character to where the reader thinks they have the mystery solved but then goes on to another character who also has motives and then keeps us guessing till the end. So nervous about how this would end up but am pleased with a fantastic finale.

This was the first Lisa Jewell thriller I did not love. It was a very slow start with many switching perspectives and timelines that made it hard to get into. It did pick up at the very end, but overall not up to the standards I've seen from Lisa Jewell in the past. Nevertheless, I will still pick up the next thriller from her!
