The Night She Disappeared is the first Lisa Jewell book I’ve read.  This is the story of Tallulah and Zach, a teenage couple who have a year old son together.  After a long overdue night out , the couple just disappear.  The next morning when the young couple fail to return, Kim, Tallulah’s mother , files a missing persons report and the hunt for answers begins.  Told from several different view points with two timelines, the plot line is intriguing and the characters interesting.  Although it moves a little slow at times, the twists and turns  will keep you reading to find out what happens next.  I think fans of The Maidens by Alex Michaelides will want to take a look at this book.  Definitely worth the read.  I will be looking into more books by Lisa Jewell.

This book is about LGBT, disappearance, domestic drama, teenage bad choices, lies, secrets, broken people, divorces, a crime novelist that think she can solve a real crime, a desperate mom trying to find her daughter and another mom that could't care less, a rich broken family and a poor little baby in the middle of it all.

It's a very long and slow burning book where every single character is broken and most are not very likable. Lot's of divorces, cheaters, narcissistic people. I do like Kim and her efforts to find her daughter no matter what while having to change her life to take care of her grandson after the disappearance. There are a lot of things about the way they found out about what happened that doesn't make sense in real life. The plot was interesting and catching and I wanted to know what happened even though I kinda knew already. It was predictable and there was no wow factor for me.

I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

In this story we follow a young mom named Tallulah as she navigates college while being a mom and in a relationship that isn’t working with the baby’s father Zach. One night, the young couple go out on a date night and never come home, just disappear without a trace. A year or so later, a mystery crime novel writer named Sophie moves into a cottage on the campus grounds when her boyfriend takes a job as the new head teacher. Shortly after, she finds a note nailed to her garden door that reads “Dig Here” and so she does and discovers a ring that traces back to the missing teens.

I usually really like Lisa Jewell books but this was was just ok for me. It was so slow that I just didn’t really care what was happening. I was about 80% done with this book before anything exciting even started to happen. I didn’t really enjoy the characters and over all it was just kind of boring. I liked the ending ok but even that was lack luster, I felt like e were building up to this explosive ending for the whole book and then the final reveal was just kind of blah. By far not my favorite book by her, it was just ok for me.

Lisa Jewell has written another enthralling, can’t put down mystery. I finished it in two sittings. Told from multiple timelines and points of view (a device frequently and successfully employed by Jewell), what happened to the the missing couple is steadily revealed.

Jewell is an excellent story teller with strong character development. In addition to a solid mystery, there is a lot here about relationships and the danger of a wealthy, spoiled, narcissistic, charismatic, manipulative individual.

By the way, I really liked the character of Sophia and I could see her becoming a recurring player for the author.

I was so happy to receive an egalley of Jewell's newest novel from NetGalley! This novel saved me from a reading drought, as I await the anticipated release of Louise Penny's latest Gamache novel.
Once again, Jewell has worked her magic creating realistic characters in an interesting setting and a suspenseful plot with a satisfying conclusion. I am not generally a huge domestic suspense fan but Jewell stands apart due to her multi-dimensional characters and her deft hand with describing domestic relationships and families, as well as creating a very suspenseful plot. I thought the mother, Kim, reminded me of some of the many strong but quirky women Jewell has featured in earlier novels. I admire how Jewell can realistically portray characters of all ages, from teenagers to adults.
I really enjoyed how Jewell moved the reader back and forth from the time leading up to the disappearance (no spoilers here) to the aftermath, focusing on different people involved in the mystery. I was kept guessing till the end!
If you haven't read Jewell before, I'd recommend you go back and enjoy her impressive backlist.

I am a fan of Lisa Jewell and have enjoyed all of her books to date, The Night She Disappeared is no exception. The hook in this one was set with mystery writer Sophie discovering a sign in the woods that says "DIG HERE" a year after the mysterious disappearance of a young couple. This author knows how to build suspense and keep the reader guessing.
Thank you to #NatGalley and the publisher for my Advanced reader copy.

My love for Lisa Jewell’s writing continues.
As I reader I always become so immersed in her stories. They are not quick binge reads but enjoyable slow burns that I enjoy each sitting with. I loved the multiple timelines and the characters throughout. Sophie was a fun character - I’d love to see her again in another story. The ending was not surprising to me at all but Jewell likes to keep things on a believability level and I can appreciate that. Very well done.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e ARC of this book. Some surprises and some nicely developed characters but pretty pointless since there wasn't really understandable motivating reasons for their behavior. Not my favorite Lisa Jewell.

Lisa Jewell is known as one of the greats in this genre, and she doesn't disappoint with her latest effort, The Night She Disappeared. As mentioned in most of the other reviews, this novel weaves together multiple points of view and timelines, all filled with intriguing and dynamic characters. I think what stood out to me the most was how much I liked the women who populate the story-- so often with thrillers, I find myself not connecting particularly to (m)any of the characters, even including the protagonist(s). However, I found myself truly caring about Sophie and Kim, hoping Tallulah was safe, and even riveted by Scarlett. While it's slower paced than I would've liked and it does feel familiar/overdone, it is a well written and entertaining read.

Very much a classic Lisa Jewell novel - multiple timelines, multiple POVs, domestic thriller. To me, the big "twist" was slightly predictable, but there was a second twist that I didn't really see coming. Definitely a little bit of a slower burn than some of her other books, but very enjoyable and super binge-able nonetheless. Not life changing, but fans of Lisa Jewell and domestic thrillers will enjoy it. I think Kim was the most relatable and most developed character; some of the other ones seemed a little one-dimensional. Also, I believe I read one time that Jewell is her own editor...to which I would suggest she get a real editor. I found countless grammatical errors - punctuation, tense discrepancies, etc. - to the point where it took away from the impact of the novel. I'm definitely picky about that kind of thing, so maybe it doesn't bother everyone, but I certainly noticed!

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend. One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. While taking a walk she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.” Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple?

Thoughts: First off, thank you @atriabooks and @netgalley for my copy! I was so excited I screamed, immediately picked it up and started reading! 😆

Okay-holy shit! I’m gonna say it-this may be @lisajewelluk best yet. I could not stop it gripped me in its claws and didn’t let me go. Rich characters that seem real life, suspense that starts right at the beginning and DOES NOT STOP 😅 You know how all her books keep you on your toes? Well this keeps you on the very tips! I was absorbed, enthralled and could not see the ending. My armchair detective cap was on and I was suspicious of everyone let me tell you, I was still wrong.

Lisa is the master at using dual timelines and points of view. She leaves you hanging with each chapter yet wraps everything up nicely at the end, which as a reader I appreciate. It was realistic. I don’t want to give too much away so I will say I thoroughly enjoyed this. It will keep you up trying to find answers!

The timelines flow between around october of 2016, june of 2017, august and september of 2018- with a wee bit between every now and then. While at first confusing, it only took a few chapters for me to catch up. The premise is essentially- how far does a mothers love really go? Would it transcend time to make sure your babies (adult or young) are safe? Also, what would be the difference between love and ... obsession? In this delicious thriller of a book, we meet a series of characters. The main two- missing. The other "Main" characters- trying to solve a mystery. The other - being stuck in the middle, being the mother of one of the missing characters. The mother, believing in every fiber of her body that her daughter would not just run off- but, will anyone listen when an entire little area believes otherwise? Until one day, the new occupants of a mysterious, beautiful home sees a note- "dig here". This book was fast paced, suspenseful, heartbreaking at times and believable throughout. There were times when I assumed I could figure out the plot, and be proven wrong with each part of the story. For fans of any thriller, I'd definitely recommend "The Night She Disappeared".

Lisa Jewell does it again. I read this book in two night because I couldn't put it down. It held my attention from start to finish. The ending was not what I was thinking which made the book. Great suspense/thriller that is definitely worth reading.

What a great book! All of the characters and different timeframe worked together with this story. Everything was tied together and didn't leave you wondering. Each character was well developed with just enough detail and information.

First off, I really enjoyed this story but I have to say the multiple timelines and POV’s were a bit confusing in the beginning. It took me until about half-way in to get in the swing of the book. I’m glad I stuck in there because this is a twisted and devious tale that has a lot of secrets to be revealed.

As I said, there’s three different timelines told by three different characters; we get Tallulah’s POV as a Uni student who becomes enchanted with the enigmatic rich girl, Scarlett. She disappears one night along with her boyfriend, leaving behind her baby with her mother. Tallulah’s mom, Kim is another POV as she desperately seeks answers to Tallulah’s disappearance and then in present time, we hear from Sophie, a Londoner who moves to the area with her boyfriend and gets drawn into the mysterious disappearances while traversing the woods.

This is a slow burn mystery that is full of red-herrings and a palpable emotive quality from each of the characters; whether it was Kim desperately looking for her daughter, Tallulah – coming of age and looking to fit in or Sophie’s quest to untangle a mystery, I felt the emotions of each character were beautifully written. The atmosphere has a tangible sense of eeriness and foreboding, with the house and woods taking on their own roles in the story.

Overall, a great story that had some great twists and an ending that left me both shocked and satisfied! My thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for this DRC

This was a light suspense thriller with more heart than I expected. The mystery was slow to start and although I enjoy a good backstory I was more interested in Sophie the author-turned-amateur-detective than Tallulah the missing teen mom.

If you're looking for a little more than a popcorn thriller, but nothing too fluffy this is the perfect in-between pick!

3.5 stars for this sure to be popular Fall novel

This story revolves around the disappearance of nineteen year old Tallulah and her boyfriend, and is filled with dark secrets and intrigue. Lisa Jewell tells this story through multiple points of view with a shocking mystery and well plotted twists and turns. A must read psychological thriller!

This was really good read and the alternative points of view from before the disappearance with Tallulah, after the disappearance showing her family dealing with her being gone and a year later when the investigation finally kicks into high gear with figuring out what happened that night. I loved the layers that got peeled back with every chapter that gave you a tidbit of information that made everything start to gel together and for you to start suspecting everyone. I didn’t really like the end since it seemed to be a little rushed together and abrupt but I still really enjoyed the book and I always like being surprised on who is responsible. I can’t wait to read another one of her novels they are always so interesting and fun to read.

Thanks to Atria Books and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.

What a great story line that kept me on the edge of my seat until I was done reading it. Tallulah and her live-in boyfriend, Zach are both 19 years old and are parents to Noah who is less than a year old. Tallulah is at the point where she is tired of Zach being so controlling and jealous, but her mother likes him and keeps reminding her that he is a good provider, wonderful father, etc. She is at the point where she is going to tell him it is over when Zach asks her to go on a "date night." Zach bought a diamond ring and is planning to propose that night. They live with Tallulah's mother, Kim, so she babysits while they go out for what is supposed to be a celebratory occasion. Kim wakes up late that night and the kids are not home. The next morning they are still no-shows as well. A year passes and they are still missing as well as some of the other people they were seen with that night.

Sophie Beck, an author of detective novels moves in with her boyfriend, Shaun Gray, to a cottage at Maypole House, a wealthy boarding school, where Shaun will be the Executive Head. She finds a sign on her back fence that says "Dig Here" which she does and she discovers a ring box with an engagement ring in it. The "detective instinct" in Sophie kicks in and she tracks down the owner of the ring. By this time, Sophie has heard bits and pieces about the couple who are still missing. This story has a lot of different angles and surprises and it is one of my very favorite reads for this year. It is told in a nonlinear timeline with multiple narrators and I was afraid it was going to be confusing, but it was not.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster/Atria Books for the ARC of this real thriller that I absolutely loved in exchange for an honest review.
