Another under the belt of thrill-HER books written by the talented Lisa Jewell!
This time, a narrowing down, multi-timeline (but don’t worry you won’t get lost or have trouble following any of them!) thriller… counting down to the penultimate conclusion that you won’t see coming.
Rich college kids, a young couple with their first baby and new life choices ahead that suddenly disappear, a creepy mansion put together on the backs of broken dreams, a new crime writer in town, and a broken hearted mother’s quest all contribute to the intensity, darkness and suspense expertly penned in by Jewell.
After reading several novels, I was afraid I was going to hit the “yup same thing as last one” feeling that you sometimes get when reading an author in a specific genre, but honestly, Jewell keeps the moving and shaking of players and secrets all the way to the end, and that to me is a win. A 4 out of 5 star review for me. Definitely worth paying attention to, and looking out for, this one when it’s released in September of 2021.
A huge thank you to #NetGalley, the publishers and the author, Lisa Jewell, for sending me an electronic arc in exchange for my unbiased opinions.

I've read a couple books from Lisa Jewell and previous enjoyed her writing story and ability to create a thrilling suspenseful read. In The Night She Disappeared I found it to be a bit of a slow burn that was quite predictable. With only a handful of characters the who dunnit wasn't exactly the biggest mystery.
Additionally, the spilt story lines didn't add anything to the book, I still don't know the purpose of the authors involvement in the story and wasn't invested in her or her storyline because it was so disconnected from the families tragedy. I also didn't understand why it was called The Night She Disappeared when the entire book took place looking for her and her boyfriend, therefore making it the night they disappeared.

A slow burn domestic mystery from a favorite author!
19 year old Tallulah, her mom Kim, and two timelines from 2017 and 2019.
Tallulah disappears while her mom babysits her young child. This is where the mystery begins....
I was wrapped up in Kim's story and she felt authentic and was the star of the novel for me. Although the mystery was intriguing, I never felt it had enough tension or thrilling suspense, but was still curious enough to find out all the why's of the disappearance.
I struggled with the timelines (lots of backstory) and relating to the teenage characters (which was a large part of the narrative). I just wasn't invested in the teenagers or interested in their stories (disappointing for me). Maybe YA fans would enjoy it more.
I think Jewell fans will still enjoy the slow-burning mystery. There are some curious aspects that I enjoyed as well as a creepy old mansion, a snoopy secondary character and plenty of hidden secrets.

I love Lisa Jewell books and have never been disappointed with any of her books! The Night She Disappears had me hooked from being to end. I felt Kim’s pain, agony and frustration when Tallulah and Zach disappears and everyone thinks the just needed a break from parenthood. I loved the fact that Sophie is an author of mystery books, who helps solves the mystery of the missing teens. I liked how Scarlet manipulates her friends to get them do anything she wants.. I loved the twists and turns and couldn’t wait to find out what really happened to Tulluah and Zach, which wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone that loves a good suspense/thriller book. Lisa Jewell you never disappoint the readers!

Lisa Jewell has done it again! Jewell masterfully writes a captivating thriller told in multiple POVs and dual timelines. The Night She Disappeared is a chilling, haunting tale about love and betrayal.
In 2017, Tallulah and Zach, the 19-year old parents of a 1-year old son, disappear without a trace after a night out in a quiet town in Surrey, England. They are last seen at a pool party at the 'Dark Place' - the sprawling mansion owned by the affluent Jacques family. The mansion has been in the Jacques family for generations and is shrouded in scandal.
In 2019, Shaun, the new Magpole House school headmaster, moves onto the grounds with his partner, Sophie, a cozy crime writer. One day Sophie finds a sign nailed outside of their cottage that says "Dig Here." Curiosity gets the best of her and Sophie does as she is told - she finds an engagement ring. When Sophie hears about the mysterious disappearance of Tallulah and Zach, she seeks out to find more about their disappearance and wonders if the ring is connected to them. Sophie locates the jewelry store the ring is from and finds out the person who purchased it is none other than Zach. Sophie then returns the ring to Kim, Tallulah's mom, as Zach lived with them at the time. Kim is beside herself because after 15 months they hit a dead end as there were no leads. The ring is a huge development and its discovery reopens the case. Sophie and Kim decide to team up to solve the case.
The book is a slow-burn. As much as I love Lisa Jewell, I have to admit that it took me a while to get into the story. That being said, the plot is well-written and excellently-crafted. A couple red herrings are thrown in for good measure but I liked that the story unfolded effortlessly and tied up nicely at the end. I would've loved the book to be darker and more twisty, but I think Jewell did a great job with the plot. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the chronology but if Jewell says that the timelines check out, then I will take her word for it.
Overall, The Night She Disappeared is a solid compelling and all-encompassing read. I loved that as the story unfolded, you realize that there's more than meets the eye - people are not always who they seem to be.
Thank you, NetGalley, Atria Books and Lisa Jewell, for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed the book so much that I already purchased a UK version of the book!

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell is a tale of betrayal and love and then more betrayal. Be ready to follow the tale through three storylines and expect the slow unfolding of events.
WHAT WORKS IN THIS BOOK
Tantalizingly small bits and pieces that ultimately add up to a whole lot of something.
The writing style is a 5 star for me-love the way Jewell leaves a twisting trail of suggestions and possibilities.
The story—intricate and winding. Jewell leads you to theorize and to whisper smugly to yourself that you already know where she’s going—only to find your prize theory pulverized in the next chapter.
The characters—great. All fully-fleshed out and believable.
WHAT DOESN’T WORK SO WELL
The absolute only thing I didn’t buy was the resolution to the main story. The timeline seemed off to me and I’m not sure a casual Google/Internet search will do what was done and that’s all I can say about that. I can suspend my disbelief enough to cover this.
BUT—this is a fantastic story. It’s haunting and a chilling and everything a psychological thriller should be. I give it 4 stars, but in my heart it is really 4.8.

Slow mystery with lots of red herrings to set readers on the wrong path to discovering what happened to Tallulah and her boyfriend, Zach. Told in two points of view, I connected with Sophie's story more than with Tallulah's. I found most of the characters unlikable and some just weird. It was hard to believe Kim could not see the true character of Zach. I found Tallulah's love for her child admirable.

Lisa Jewell continues to thrill with her newest book, The Night She Disappeared. Teen Mom, Tallulah, heads out for a night out with her boyfriend, but they never return home. A mystery writer moves close to the estate from where the couple disappeared from and uncovers a note that says "Dig Here" sending her into a trail of deceit and mystery. Told through three viewpoints/timelines, The Night She Disappeared will satisfy Lisa Jewell fans and will gain her some new ones.

Lisa Jewell has once again written a well-crafted, enjoyable mystery. Set in England, in a cozy village with a boarding school, the twists keep coming. I thought I knew where the novel was going, only to be completely surprised near the end. Then the twists keep coming. A very smooth writing style with enough contemporary details to keep it fresh. I definitely recommend this book for lovers of suspense and mystery, especially those with strong female characters.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Kim's daughter and her boyfriend go out for a night of drinks and never come home. Kim new her daughter would not leave their newborn son Noah. This book grabbed my attention from the beginning.

Tallulah Murray is a nineteen-year-old unmarried mom who still lives at home with her divorced mother, Kim. Tallulah juggles being a mom to Noah while attending college in hopes of becoming a social worker. The baby’s father, Zach, moves in with her, and they try to be a family.
Sophie Beck is the author of several detective stories. She and her significant other, Shaun, move from London to Maypole House, a private boarding school for 16-19 old students, when Shaun becomes the new head teacher.
The story begins with Tallulah and Zach go out for a rare night out, leaving Noah in Kim's care. When they don’t return home, and don’t answer their cell phones, Kim fears something is wrong. Although both are very young, they are devoted to their son and wouldn’t leave him. Zach’s mother is nonchalant about the entire thing, but Kim decides to investigate on her own.
She learns they were last seen attending a pool party at Dark Place, a historical estate owned by the family of Scarlett Jacques who is also enrolled at the same college as Tallulah. Several people saw them there, but everyone said they planned to call a cab to take them home. After twenty-four hours, Kim calls the police to investigate. The trail goes cold.
The story is told in three timelines—the events leading up to Tallulah's and Zach’s disappearance, the night of the pool party, and Kim’s subsequent investigation, and present-day when Sophie moves into the cottage at Maypole House.
Shortly after Sophie’s arrival, she finds a sign reading, “dig here,” near the edge of the woods behind her cottage. She uncovers a clue that might lead to what happened to Tallulah and Zach.
The book is more of a slow burn than a page-turner, but it kept my interest. And each tidbit or clue the author dropped was wrapped up nicely—with a surprising twist at the end.
A special thanks to Atria Books and Net Galley for an advanced reader copy.

Lisa Jewell is one of the rare British chick lit authors who pivoted seamlessly to thrillers and I'm so glad she did! The Night She Disappeared is her best yet--tense and thought-provoking. A definite must buy for all colections and if you have her (extensive) backlist, it will make for the perfect fall thill(ers) display.

Tallulah and her boyfriend head out for a date night, leaving their son with Lula’s mom Kim. When Kim wakes to a house without her daughter home, she immediately begins to freak out. There is no way Tallulah would leave her son Noah. It’s been a year since their disappearance and Sophie is moving with her boyfriend for his new job. When she heads outside and finds a note saying “dig here,” she knows something strange is up….
Ahh Lisa Jewell does it again. This book was so dang good. The three different storylines and timelines were totally working for me in this one. My heart just broke for Kim from the very beginning. She was such a great Mom/Grandma and I could just feel her pain through the pages. This book definitely had some unlikable characters, and lots of twists, though I figured some of them out while reading. That didn’t take away from the read for me though! If you love Lisa Jewell look no further than her newest read!

Loved it! So many plot twists and peeks into the underlying storyline. And the ending was truly shocking. The characters were well fleshed out and the emotions were always running high. Didn’t want to put this down. Lisa Jewell never disappoints.

YESSS!!! I absolutely love books like this that give little hints and not-so-subtle but small reveals throughout the book! I kept thinking to myself “curiouser and curiouser” as I read and I loved every delicious second! There was intrigue right up until the very last page and I am here for it! I loved reading how the characters connected and who was who and the little reveals bits at a time! Lisa Jewell proves once again why she is such a successful author! I don’t want to give away any details so I’m trying to be vague! I just want you to read this book!!!

I was underwhelmed by this one. Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite authors, and the story was really well done, but I had a difficult time getting into this as it dragged for the majority. 3/5

I would highly recommend this book for readers, librarians, and library purchase. It is a riveting read. Lisa Jewell does not disappoint.

I'm a big fan of Lisa Jewell and this was one of my most anticipated reads of 2021. Unfortunately, it did not hold my interest. I struggled with the characters and found myself unable to warm up to them. It was also unbearable slow, more so than her typical slow-burn pacing, which usually works just fine and hasn't been a problem for me in previous books. I don't know why this didn't work for me, but I'm still a die-hard fan and will look forward to the next book.

Thank you @netgalley and @atria books for allowing me to read this early!
Swipe for description.
Lisa's writing style is 5 stars for me. She knows how to get you hook line & sinker from the moment the story begins. This mystery has 3 pov's and dual timelines that I devoured in 2 days. I was completely engrossed by the story and needed to know what was going to happen next. I loved The Dark Place, It was atmospheric, and wish I could go there to investigate myself.
I ever so slightly struggled with the slow burn but going in, i knew that is her forte. You are fed teeny tiny nuggets that lead you frantically in piecing together that night Tallulah and Zach go missing. I had several hunches that came to be true, others I got wrong. The conclusion and epilogue did it for me but along the way i kept waiting for something to happen.
Typically this wouldn't be my type of book (i prefer crazy plot twists throughout) but Jewell's writing was captivating enough to where I simply didn't care. I also think it dabbled into YA territory but I adore that genre so again, I didn't mind.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this crew of characters! Readers will get lost in this mystery novel, I know I did!

Huge thank you to netgalley for the arc of this amazing book.
With three POVs in three different timelines, Lisa Jewel weaves a deliciously addicting mystery.
The less I say about this mystery the better. Jewel masterfully juggles the three timelines and the end of every chapter leaves you aching for more. Jewel has also managed to wrap up all the loose ends and give us a plausible ending which I absolutely adore. I have been left wanting by so many mystery novels.
From the synopsis and the prologue especially I expected a bit of a darker novel but while the novel wasn't as dark as I anticipated I wasn't disappointed at all.
The characters were so believable and often times relatable. I couldn't help but fall in love with Tallhulha and wanted nothing more than to find out what happened to her.
The book was well-plotted and, while there were one or two times I managed to guess the twist there were still more twists and turns that I didn't guess and that's really all I ask.
All in all, I would recommend this to any avid mystery fans, especially if they're a Ruth Ware fan as well.
I cannot wait to pick this book up physically in September.
