I went into this book expecting something completely different from what I got, but that’s my fault for not making sure the characters in this book were closer to my own age.
I tried and tried to connect with the characters and the further I got into it, the more they annoyed me. Unfortunately, not a single one was likable.
Tess and Grady were not at all entertaining as a couple and instead of it feeling like a romance, it felt more like getting a look into my boring neighbors’ lives.
The story itself seemed very unnecessary, bland and all over the place.
Neither the romance nor the family dynamics interested me.
The pacing was also very slow for no apparent reason, but the writing style was fine.
A perfect beach read! The storyline kept me interested and I could not wait to see how it ended. Do they get back together? Or don't they? Would suggest it to anyone who enjoys a romance, with a storyline.
Cute chick lit type read. The character development is on task. It’s a little slow but not enough to make it drag.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advance copy of this book. I was thrilled to get an early peek!
I liked this book for a lot of reasons: there were multiple parallel story lines with both older and younger characters, the granddaughter Dilly was a delight, the addiction and enabling issues were handled with both sensitivity and reality, and the kittens and their mischief left me laughing. It was a short, easy read and I literally couldn't put it down until I got to the last page. I did think the book slowed down a bit too much in the middle but that's a very minor complaint compared to all the positives this book offered. I have not read this author before, but I plan to read more.
A perfect little romance. Especially liked that the "heat" was just the perfect amount of spicy; enough to let you know that its getting hot, but not so much detail that there isn't anything left for the imagination.
Being from the Midwest (and having traveled to the Cinci area for work), I really enjoyed some of the references to the Cincinnati area.
I really enjoyed the character development and ending (last 1/4) of the story.

** spoiler alert ** So about 50% through... I’m super frustrated with Tess. She’s a total pushover and gives everything away and solves everyone problems but her own.
I get it, but damn... stop giving money to your stupid dad who doesn’t give a shit about your dreams.
I’m more ok with her helping her family who seriously needs it, but babe - you need to put your mask on before you put someone else’s mask on. Plane 101.
I will finish this though - even if it’s just skimming.
So 60% update... there so much going on with this book. I know it’s suppose to be paralleled and all that but wow. And the amount of shit that’s happening that just isn’t realistic, is insane.
It’s a cute story but I feel like issues are just popping up out of nowhere and the only reason is because you need an “even playing field”... you don’t.
All in all this was a cute story, I get why there was so many relationships going on that needed light, but still seemed busy to me.
I received this ARC free from NetGalley for an honest review.
I liked this book. It runs a bit slow at times but they get through it. I liked the characters, no bad guys. #TheGoToGirl #NetGalley
This book was a great feel-good romance! I loved how it tackled themes of addiction and heartbreak without going to deeply into them, it kept its lightness. Going into this, I was looking for a light romcom, and this didn't disappoint.
Call me based, but my favorite thing about this was the kittens. I'll admit to being a complete cat person, and this book definitely showed me that. Little Girl and Big Boy were just so adorable! I loved how they were constantly causing trouble, they acted like cats.
I also really enjoyed all of the side characters we're given in this. Each of them has their own personality and struggles, and it kept me interested. Chloe was always a character who drove me crazy, but I loved seeing her come into her own at the end.
I liked out main romance, but it isn't anything I'd rave about. Despite that, I really enjoyed this book, and I'd totally recommend this!
