This was a delightful cozy mystery!

DIGGING UP TROUBLE by Kitt Crowe is the first in the Sweet Fiction Bookshop mystery series.

Synopsis: Confection, Oregon is THE perfect small town. It’s beautiful, everyone knows each other, and the gardens are enviable. Lexi loves living in Confection. Her best friends are here, she runs the town bookstore (Sweet Fiction), and leads her bookclub, the Macaroons.

But there’s always a curmudgeon in a small town. And Confection’s grump is Lexi’s next door neighbor, Gil. He’s downright mean, and loves yelling at Lexi and her dog, Cookie, for no good reason. So when Cookie finds Gil dead, eyes turn to Lexi.

This book was just stinkin’ adorable. The characters have just enough quirkiness to be likable and interesting, without being cheesy. There was a perfect balance of coziness and suspense…without being predictable. A cozy mystery win all around!

If cozy mysteries are your jam, you should definitely put this one on your TBR! It’s out on October 12, 2021!

She runs Sweet Fiction, a bookstore on Main St. Lexi has a dog who likes to dig and gets blamed for lots of problems. Then a dog unearths a body. With a lot of twists and turns, our heroine works to solve the case. Her neighbors and the police get mad at her, but she keeps at it. This was an enjoyable book that Kitt Crowe has written.

*I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

First book in a new series. I enjoyed reading this one and the murderer was a surprise for me until the very end and I also enjoyed the mystery itself. It is an easy and funny read. There was a little romance hinting, but not much yet, so I kept hoping for more as I felt some tension between Lexi and Detective Berg. The other characters are also fun the read, especially Lexis dog Cookie (but what do you expect with a name like that!) who is the actual hero of the story if you ask me.
If you want a quick read, but fun mystery book, check it out. It left me hoping for a second book in this series

Welcome to Confection, the town obsessed with gardening and not a fan of Lexi's dog who loves to dig. Lexi has enough on her plate trying to keep a handle on her escape artist, digging obsessed canine. But when her neighbor is murdered and Lexi's dog Cookie is found with the murder weapon in her mouth, Lexi's problems are about to get a whole lot bigger. It's time for her to figure out whodunnit, and maybe try and prove it's not Cookie digging up holes all over town while she's at it.

This is a light hearted easy read. The town in a bit kooky, the characters not too complex, but with the odd dark secret and twist and turn it keeps it interesting from start to finish.

When Lexi's dog Cookie unearths her grouchy neighbour's body, buried in a shallow grave in his back garden, Lexi is considered the prime suspect as she was seeing arguing with the man the day before. But as he's universally disliked, how can the police be sure they have the right person?

With her friends helping her, and Cookie digging up clues around town, Lexi takes it upon herself to clear her name.

This was a great first book to a new series. It moved steadily, introduced some solid new characters - and a smart canine companion in the form of Cookie - and the mystery was well done. Apart from the potential love triangle (why is this always necessary in cosies?), which is always a bit of a struggle, I thoroughly enjoyed this and am already looking forward to book two in the series.

I love a good cozy mystery, and Kitt Crowe's book is a great start to a new series! It has all of the components of a good cozy: endearing main character and friends, a wily dog, and an intriguing murder. If you like a classic style cozy, you'll enjoy Digging Up Trouble.

New cozy Author Kitt Crowe offers a light, yet solid mystery with humor in all the right places. It features Lexi Jones, manager of Sweet Fiction Bookshop in Confection, Oregon. Lexi’s free-spirited dog, Cookie stays ‘in the doghouse’ because she loves digging under rosebushes and stealing sweet treats! When Lexi’s grouchy, old, next door neighbor is found murdered, Lexi and her bestie’s, Teri and Cat, begin sleuthing for clues to whodunnit.

I enjoyed the book club Macaroons, who meet to discuss and sort through murder clues. There are a bevy of potential suspects beginning with those associated with a fierce gardening competition with a huge monetary prize for the winner. Lexi is an aspiring writer and the creepy local Detective Berg seems to have it in for her, plus he’s angry at Cookie’s digging, and at Lexi for rebuffing his romantic advances. The plot moved at a steady place through about 60%, then it seemed to lose it’s wind until the final wrap-up. I did enjoy several of the characters and look forward to seeing them grow in future stories.

I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Crooked Lane. All opinions are my own. Thank you.

Digging Up Trouble by Kitt Crowe

I found this to be a charming read. Lexi is managing her parents' bookstore in a small town in Oregon that is known for it's gardeners. Her dog Cookie gets her into trouble because Cookie likes to dig, especially prized rosebushes. Local law enforcement keeps threatening her with citations. Things get more complicated when Lexi's neighbor is murdered and Cookie is found with a piece of pipe from a hole in the neighbor's yard.

By the end of the book Lexi and her bookclub, along with the help of her two uncles, have helped solve the murder, of course. Naturally this doesn't make the detective happy but the town government forces him to tear up her citations out of gratitude. Lexi also ends up with two potential love interests. It will be interesting to see which way it goes.

Digging Up Trouble by Kitt Crowe is a fun cozy mystery book. Lexi recently moved back to her childhood home Confection, Oregan. She begins to manage her parents’ book store, Sweet Fiction Bookshop so that they can travel. One day, she finds her dog, Cookie, in the neighbor’s yard. Cookie is standing over her neighbor Gil, with a copper pipe between her teeth. It appears that Gil has been murdered. Who did it and why? Was it one of Gil’s sons or a member of the Confection Garden Club? Lexi, with the help of her friends, tries to find the answers.

Digging Up Trouble was a fun read full of interesting characters. I hope that this is just the beginning of more adventures about Lexi and her friends!

Sweet Confection…
The first in the Sweet Fiction Bookshop series of mysteries set in Confection, Oregon. All seems well until an unassuming canine digs up a body from a shallow grave and Charles ensues. With a likeable protagonist and a colourful cast of supporting characters together with a lovely backdrop this is a promising start to a new series.

Lexi and Cookie return to Confection OR to run her parents bookshop Sweet Fiction while they travel the country. Her neighbor has yelled at her in front of tourists and winds up dead the next. Lexi and her good friends work to find the killer before the local police charge her. First in a new series.

Unfortunately I did not finish this book, I found it hard to get into and it was all a bit obvious.

The main character seemed very childish and her dog digging everything up and her being told off all the time but not apologising grated on me. It was all a bit far fetched whilst being very obvious.

Thank you for the arc.

I absolutely loved this book from the first page. The characters are delightful and interesting. It is chockful of humor, but with an intriguing and suspenseful mystery. For me it was an I couldn't put it down, but didn't want it to end kind of book! I can't wait to visit this little eastern Oregon town again, there are so many questions to be answered!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This has all the expected elements of a cozy, but the characters didn’t grab my attention.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I liked the blurb about this book so was looking forward to reading it. I see by the reviews I’m in the minority but I didn’t care for the authors characters, whom I found annoying for the most part, or her style of writing.
