A young gamer is killed by an accidental punch in the face by Snake, a master gamer. They had been having a great time but things got out of hand. Snake claims it was an accident and her death was not intentional.

Mia and her friend Serena are on their way to a rave. Mia is miffed at Serena because she seems to want to forego the party. Fraternity brothers were offering a drink called a “Crazy Mary,” guaranteed to make even the most virginal woman put out. Serena begins to act strangely and then winds up missing.

Seven years later Mia still wonders what could have happened to Serena. She currently has a position as investigative reporter for Guardian Magazine. Her current assignment is a political candidate.

Alexander Talbot Harrington is a very rich society climber who does as he wishes with women. He is tall and handsome and has no problem having opportunities. He is running for the mayor of New York City. His “wing man” is his social equal but lacking in self-confidence.

Ms. Coulter is a master story teller with multiple plots happening simultaneously. The result is a continuously intriguing tale which is difficult to put down. With three police agencies working to solve this and other crimes, the criminals are quickly in their cross-hairs. Alex and his wing-man feel they are smarter than anyone and will not be caught.

This is another excellent entry in Catherine Coulter’s series. As usual, she keeps the story moving forward even when diverting to give back stories about characters series’ devotees know well. Vortex is nearly all plot, with character development and setting taking a back seat. But the plot is strong enough that readers will find it hard to put the book down.

Vortex by Catherine Coulter is the 25th book in her FBI Thriller series. I am a big fan of Coulter’s FBI series, and looked forward to seeing our wonderful FBI heroes, Savich and Sherlock. In Vortex, both Savich and Sherlock are called into separate cases, with each case being led by great heroines.

Mia Briscoe, our heroine, is an investigative journalist for a local newspaper. Mia still thinks about her friend from college, who disappeared 7 years ago. When her boss assigns her to be the main reporter for Alex Harrington, the new candidate to be mayor of New York, she does some research and finds a dark blurry picture that a friend found, and sent to Mia. In a short time, Mia utilizes another FBI friend, who was the boyfriend of the missing girl, to see if he can improve the quality of the picture, which was taken at the college 7 years ago. After she interviews Harrington, his friends, Mia begins to suspect that there is more to the story, and with her FBI friends help, she meets Special Agent Sherlock, who will begin to work with Mia to find the truths, about now and what happened years ago. Sherlock was in New York consulting on a serial murderer case, which she will help solve, and she fully becomes invested into Mia’s findings.

CIA agent, Olivia Hildebrandt, was on a top mission, when she was injured, as the mission was compromised. One of her agents is now missing, and Olivia is determined to find him, since she feels he is in hiding, against foreign terrorists. Savich is called to represent the FBI in investigating why Olivia is being targeted, as attacks have been made on her life. Savich will take over the case, as the CIA is not happy about this. Olivia knows someone from her team has betrayed her, and works closely with Savich to protect her, as well as find the agent who is in hiding, with the flash drive (important data) that is important to both sides.

What follows is a non-stop exciting and intense adventure with two different cases. Both cases escalated, with many twists and surprises, which is another reason not to reveal these spoilers, so not to ruin the book. I love Savich and Sherlock, even when they worked separately; They are a fabulous couple and super agents. I really thought Mia was a fantastic character, as she was fearless to find the truth about her friend’s disappearance, as well as working closely with Sherlock. Olivia too was a very good character, and was willing to put her own life in danger, working with Savich. Coulter not only gives us wonderful characters we care about, but she also creates evil villains.

Vortex was a thriller from start to finish, and even if it was tense at times, as I was unable to put the book down from start to finish. Catherine Coulter once again gives us a fabulous story, with so many different surprises and excitement all the way to the climax. Vortex was a fast-paced, exciting, intriguing, suspenseful mystery. If you like suspense, mysteries, espionage, especially in the world of CIA/FBI, I wholly suggest you read Catherine Coulter.

Another excellent Sherlock/Savich installment. Savich is called in to investigate an attempted hit on Olivia - a CIA agent being targeted because she witnessed something right before a severe injury. Sherlock is in NY helping put away a serial killer when she's tapped to help Mia - a journalist researching a NYC mayoral candidate when she notices a connection to the night her best friend went missing seven years ago. Both stories moved quickly and kept me engaged. I hope we see more of some of the new characters Coulter introduced!

Catherine Coulter comes through with another great Sherlock and Savich thriller. She introduces several new characters who make her 2 storylines work. This moves at breakneck speed but does not detract from the storyline or Coulter's development of all her characters. First you have Sherlock solving a serial murder and then helping send a serial rapist and murderer running for mayor, of New York, whose fiancee is more ruthless, to prison. Flip to Washington where CIA agent Olivia Haldebrandt uses Savich's skills and team to help save her and her partner, Mike, from international assassins and gun runners. A great read.

Catherine Coulter’s Vortex is a classic Catherine Coulter story. Fast-moving plots and characters we’ve come to enjoy through the many Sherlock/Savich titles. Vortex begins and ends with a burial. In between is the work of a journalist, Mia Briscoe, profiling a rising political star who, she discovers has a connection to her missing college friend. Another strand to the story is to an injured CIA agent threatened by what she may remember. Sherlock and Savich are brought in to tie up the mysteries and save the threatened. How they accomplish this work is always interesting. Vortex is by Catherine Coulter.

An engaging thriller. The beginning had me wondering if this would be a book I would enjoy reading. I did keep going and so glad I did. Once the women of the media, CIA and FBI appeared my interest was captured and kept me turning the pages. Intriguing circle of events. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. Excited to see this is #25 as I have lots of potential reading enjoyment ahead or is that behind, since I am late to the series.

I've now read them all, all the books in the FBI series. You have to love Dillon Savich and Sherlock no matter when they are serious and solving crime or in a corny conversation, yes I think their conversations rather they be personal or professional can sometimes be silly. Professionally you have to suspend belief, but yet the relationship of the husband and wife team, their team, their friends, old and new keep the series strong. This time it's Dillon and the CIA teaming up to help Olivia injured in an operation with a missing agent and flash drive. Sherlock is support for Tom Maitland who finds his friend Mia Briscoe, a journalist, has possibly found a clue to what happened to his college girl friend gone 7 years. Mia's story was the better developed of the two mysteries but in both cases it is the wise knowledge and experience of the husband and wife team that brings the bad guys to justice while keeping their romance and their family, usually, moving smoothly along.

Loved! Definitely felt like a Vortex! Two intriguing stories that kept me sitting at the end of my chair, reading in one sitting. The first page reaches out and grabs you! Heartbreaking with the Mia's loss of her best friend Serena during their college years, and Tommy Maitlands loss of his girlfriend. Tommy is all grown up and FBI agent :) Mia is a political reporter, who doesn't take sides, and in this instance ends up being an investigative reporter. Sherlock appears as a request from Tommy Maitland. The second story is with Olivia a CIA operative who was to close to an RPG blast and had a severe concussion, Mike, one of her teammates (and sometimes partner) grabs her and runs to safety, This story line reached out and grabbed me. Savich our intrepid FBI team leader just handled this whole thing with his usual class and intelligence. .I love the intelligence in the women, the class (well not Pammie) the twists, the turns and the feelings. This one had me just sitting at the end in silence, just to take it all in. I love this series and enjoyed seeing a few team member faces from previous books. Another win for Catherine Coulter. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Sherlock working an off the books case as a favor to Tommy that is a true jigsaw. Saving is working an official case with the CIA/FBI with plenty of action all the characters very defined. I hope Tommy & Juliette get together in the future!

Vortex An FBI Thriller by Catherine Coulter gives the reader two suspenseful thrillers in one book with returning FBI agents Sherlock and Savich. In the first storyline, we find out that one of Mia Briscoe’s best friends went missing at a rave while she was in college. Mia now an investigative journalist is gaining success with her articles on prominent figures. Is it possible that the high-powered political candidate that she will be featuring in a series was actually involved in her friend’s disappearance? The second storyline centers around a CIA Operative Olivia Hildebrandt injured on a mission to Iran and a missing flash drive. Someone betrayed their team but Olivia has lost pieces of her memory that are desperately needed to solve the puzzle.

I have to admit that there was so much background information to set the stage that the book did start out slowly for me. However, midway through the suspense made it nearly impossible for me to put the book down. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.)

I really enjoyed reading this next book "VORTEX". It held me from the beginning to the end. Having both Sherlock and Dillon where in to different cities it was great trying to keep track and following everyone . It kept the suspense high till the end. I have been a fan of Catherine Coulter’s FBI series from book 1. Dillon and Sherlock are two of my all time favorite book characters/couples and this book only solidified that opinion. From the beginning this book was fantastic with a dash of mystery, murder, love and all the things I’ve come to look forward to in these books. Mia was a phenomenal character and I enjoyed seeing how Tommy Maitland made his way into the story and hope we see a lot more of him. I also loved Olivia and Mike and would definitely love to see more of them in future books. The only storyline that had me a bit confused was the one with Sherlock and Storin. Usually the different cases seem to blend at least somewhat well, but this time…and this particular storyline…seemed really out in left field. It was still a good part of the book but I was definitely confused by her and her smart but psychotic story. Overall this was another excellent addition to the series and I can’t wait for the next book to come out!!

This is the 25th book in the Catherine Coulter FBI Thriller series. The series follows the FBI special agents Sherlock and Savich who are married with a young son Sean. In the early books the partnership worked together to bring down criminals. Now the stories usually focus on other people with them as significant side characters solving crimes.

In Vortex, Sherlock gives fresh eyes to what looks like a home robbery gone wrong. While working on that she meets Mia. Mia is a hardworking journalist in the process of doing an in-depth piece on a mayor candidate for NYC. She lost her best friend seven years when the girl was given a date rape drug and was killed. She has vowed to find those responsible.

Savich is called into investigate when assassins try to kill a CIA agent at her home. Olivia was able to escape and take down one of the culprits. Everything has to do with her last mission and a missing encrypted flash drive. It looks like someone from the CIA is providing information to the enemy.

Coulter's fans know she will deliver books that will be fast paced with some twists and turns. There isn't time to have in-depth characters but I really like both Olivia and Mia and how they doggedly persist for the truth. Women don't need to be saved by men but work equally with good partners and teams. Usually there is someone who gets a romance but in this book it is a possible potential. I love that the series continues to be clean in its writing for language and sex and with only minimal violence.

If this is a brand new series for you the book will stand alone but you will not know who Savich and Sherlock are other than trusted FBI agents. I am a fan and have read most of the series. It was fun to be back in the duos world and I will go back and see if I can catch up on the few I've missed. As a longtime, enthusiastic fan of the FBI thrillers featuring Savich and Sherlock, I was a bit disappointed in this latest addition to the series. The storyline had a slow start and it wasn’t until midway through the book that the momentum picked up and the FBI agents became deeply involved. I would call this “Savich and Sherlock Lite.”

When a CIA mission is severely compromised and critical information goes missing, an attempt is made on the life of a recovering, injured operative. The FBI is called in due to the domestic nature of the event and Special Agent Dillon Savich must navigate the choppy waters of the CIA/FBI turf dispute to protect the operative and recover the data. Simultaneously Agent Sherlock travels to New York to consult on a serial murderer and is drawn into an unrelated cold case of a missing, and presumed dead, college coed.

Most of the books in Coulter’s FBI series have multiple plot lines, but it is a bit unusual for Savich and Sherlock to be on separate assignments for the entire book. This popular author is known for well-crafted, entertaining stories – what makes them particularly appealing is the blending of the personal and professional relationships between the husband and wife team. I missed that key component in this book and it made for a less enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this introduction into this world and I just couldn’t get enough of it. I just so thoroughly enjoyed meeting these new characters and getting to go on their journey. I will most definitely be reading more wonderful books from this author.

Catherine Coulter always brings the best of the best. She seamlessly melds two disparate stories into one very cohesive tale. I will definitely add this book to our library's collection. Looking forward to more of her writing.
