I have to say the cover and synopsis pulled me in on this one. However I just could not connect with the characters or writing style. Definitely has great potential. I just found myself having a hard time focusing and understanding based on how the story started. This may be a case where the story reads better on paperback vs kindle so I am giving it 2.5 stars.

Another Beasts Skin is a fantasy story about Neysa who moves back to England after her father dies and after going through a divorce. In England she befriends a local family of three, who are on a mission to protect and restore the veil that divides the Fae realm and Earth.

I honestly had a bit of a hard time reading this book. It just had an overall feel that it wasn’t yet completed and still had some revisions and editing to go through. Especially because it had some spelling errors and grammar errors I believe, but since English isn’t my first language that can also be my mistake.

The book has a lot of potential! The ideas are quite good and it would be a story I enjoy reading if it wasn’t so confusing and full of holes. From the very first page, I had trouble following the story since most of the events didn’t seem to fit each other. Almost like trying to put puzzle pieces from different puzzles together. I had a hard time following what was happening and why it was happening. There was a big information dump in the beginning, but it was written in a way that reminded my of my history text books in high school. It was boring and not engaging to read, thus I didn’t really pick up the information I needed to understand the story and motives. A lot of “big events” that were build-up to weren’t really noticeable, often times I realized it was a bit event after it happened. They seems disregarded most of the times. Because of this, I didn’t really get invested in the story and the characters.

The protagonist, Neysa, is a 35-year-old woman who has gone through a divorce. Even though that happened in her past, she felt really juvenile. If her age wasn’t told, I would’ve guessed her age be around 18-years-old. She has been given this ‘I’m not like others’ vibe, but in a way that it was a bit annoying. It didn’t feel like she was like that because of what she could do or did, but just because it happened and she was conveniently there. The other characters were a bit forgettable to be honest. They felt a bit flat and there wasn’t really much to distinguish the characters from each other. I liked the twins, who had a bit of a dramatic flair, though they were mostly used for the plot in the first half and not as present in the second. Cade’s character just didn’t do it for me. Everything about him felt like it just missed the mark.

The romance was a bit meh. From the beginning you know Neysa and Cade will be together, but there isn’t really a real and believable build-up of tension and development of feelings. Also, the short love triangle was quite weird and unnecessary in my opinion.

The second half of the book is better than the first. I looked beyond all the holes in the plot and why the characters did what they did and enjoyed it a bit more. It has a bit more action and is less slow than the beginning. The ending was a bit abrupt and sudden. I would’ve liked it more if that was given a bit more attention.

Overall, it was a book that had a lot of potential but feels incomplete and this caused it to be confusing and thus harder to enjoy.

I am sorry it just wasn't for me. I tried to read it and just couldn't connect with the story. However the cover is absolutely gorgeous.

I really should have DNF'd this. I have so much reading I need to catch up on and so little time to do it in.

I didn't care about the characters. Half the time it felt like a teen romance even though the MC is supposed to be 35. Nothing she did made her seem 35. None of her power reveals were exciting. Nothing was surprising.

The book was full of errors, which is fine in an ARC, but there were enough and they were basic and blatant enough that it felt like the book wasn't ready to be reviewed just yet.

As many have already said, the first half of the book is pretty much just an infodump. The tone is also not consistent and shifts throughout. There is a lot of giggling that happens, and then some F-bombs dropped. It couldn't make up its mind in terms of what it wanted to be.

I also feel like you're setting me up for a certain type of book when the MC is 35 and we have some fucking happening in chapter 8, but then it doesn't happen again for most of the book, and when it does, it is grossly unsatisfying.

It wasn't awful, but it wasn't good. I don't recommend it, and I don't want to read the next one.

For someone who has graduated from YA for the most part, unfortunately this isn't a YA book that makes me want to read more....I didn't hate it, but for someone used to reading NA or adult fantasy, this just wasnt for me.


the World building and characters and maybe a little bit of the romance was good, but it felt a tad underdeveloped and I couldn't bring myself to read it fully. I found myself skimming just to get past some of the parts that I just couldn't handle.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. The cover was the first thing that drew me in for this book, and the n the description really intrigued me. I felt like this story had a lot of potential and I really wanted to like it, but unfortunately it fell short and flat for me. The first part of the book was an unorganized information dump for a story setup that to be honest I’m not really sure I grasped or understood. I felt lost from the very first page, there wasn’t enough description to make it seem like the beginning of a story, instead I felt like I was coming into the middle of one. The author did a lot of telling and not enough showing. There was a lot of opportunity to do some wonderful descriptions for this world building and there wasn’t, it just fell flat on that mark. I couldn’t get a feel for the images of characters or landscape. The characters were one dimensional and contradictory, so much so it was like getting whiplash. I couldn’t tell if they were adult, or teens. Strong willed or whiny and weak. It was an intriguing story concept once I could figure out what it was, I just think it wasn’t planned and executed properly. This story needs more time and polishing.

Despite the premise of the book being interesting and the fantasy world having potential, for me, it was ruined by the "love" story between two of the main characters. It was too angsty, and unbelievable, for 35-year old people were behaving more like teenagers. The book focused too much on their relationship, which was tumultuous as well as problematic at some points.

The use of "female" and "male" to refer to grown up adults was confusing and uncomfortable at some times. The same situation ocurred when one of the love interests referred to the other as "my mate". All of these terms were used like this without an explanation or logic combined indiscriminately with more common terms like man, woman or lover.

The good aspects were that the fantasy world was quite interesting, although hardly explored in the story, having a lot of potential. Also, the lgtbq inclusion and reference is good as the world presented is open in that aspect, including characters who belong to the community. In the same way, secondary characters who had not so much weight in the story were deeply interesting and I wish their story would have got more pages.

Overall it was an okay book, I expected more than I got and it bore me in some chapters.

Neysa has retreated to a small village in the North-East of England to recover from a messy break-up and her Father’s death. She is drawn to the strange but friendly twins Silas and Corra and their not so friendly cousin Cade. Life settles into a new pattern however one day they let her into a secret. They are not human but Fae from a parallel world called Aosling living in this realm to protect and fix the veil between worlds. Neysa is vital to fixing the veil and is half-Fae, so, unfortunately, ends up being dragged into a quest to save the realms as well as the twisted world of Fae politics.


The book is written in the first person from Nesysa point of view. This works well to show her confusion when she finds out about her Fae heritage and the new world she has to deal with. The book felt like a coming of age book even though Neysa is in her early thirties but I guess it is never too late to grow into the person you were meant to be. It was refreshing to read a book where the heroine is in charge of her sexuality and not be too remorseful of decisions or actions made in haste.
As with these books, there is a soulmate and Cade is hers but to me, it felt their interactions lacked the fizz and spark that was present when she was Silas or even Reynard. I feel Nesya came into her own when she was away from Cade. There is a scene where she fights several Fae warriors and carries an injured Corra to safety despite her own injuries without any fuss but this disappears as soon as Cade pops back into the picture.
Corra, Silas, and Reynard are the other Fae and they are interesting in their own right. There are two chapters from Corra and Silas’s point of view and I hope we have more booktime with these sarky Fae.
The story picks up the pace when the quest to find the crystals starts and when Nesya enters Aosling till it reaches an absolute shock of an ending with a cliffhanger that makes me want to pick up the next book right now.

There were some parts of the book I really liked but there were few bits that really didn’t work for me. Nesya is a strong, female character who can handle herself in a swordfight or a room of devious Fae but turns into a whimpering mess around Cade. All the characters in this book were well fleshed out except for Cade who felt a little too generic.

This tale enthralled me. Such an intricate weave of magic and words. I don't like cliffhangers though and unfortunately this story ends in one.

(2.5)Firstly, I love the cover, I think it is aesthetically so beautiful. I will say that I think this book has so much potential, and stripped back is really amazing. But It was pretty hard to follow especially in the beginning because it felt like we were sort of being overwhelmed with both character and information dumping. I just feel like this book missed the marks in ways that could have amplified it and made it so good. I think the characterization, world building, character relationships, and plot development were areas where this book lacked. This is not to say the bones were not good, I just felt like the execution felt a little rushed or unfinished? The plot and pacing of this story were also not fluid, which made it so unfortunately it read a bit choppy. I also felt like there were plot holes, or things that just were not answered in a way that made sense to the story. I just felt like the writing didn't allow the reader to go on a journey to find out, but instead it felt very "telling" if that makes any sense. I did like the fact that the main character was older, but I also felt like even with her age, she acted a tad immature which as times came across as annoying. I also wasn't too sure about Cade. Its not like I necessarily didn't like him, but I certainly wasn't that invested in him, and I am not too sure if he added anything of any substance. I just didn't find the romance to be that believable or all that fun to follow. I will say that I am grateful to have received this arc, and I do plan on reading others by this author in the future. I just don't think this in particular worked for me.

Okay, the summary was great. This book sounded so interesting in the summary. Alas…

First thing’s first, the descriptions are so weird. There’s a quote I want to include here as an example, but since this is an ARC, I can’t. Suffice to say, within the first 5 minutes there are several questionable descriptions.

Also feels heavily anglophilic which just leaves me feeling sort of icky. The plot and writing style seems very young adult despite being marketed for adults and featuring adults. It’s one of those “I’m so unique, I did combat training and was a loner, but I’m also hot and every man I meet wants me” type of character. She’s just so unlikable and I can’t empathize at all with her.

Overall, I found this book very boring. It was difficult to even get through the book at all.

3/5- I'm sure it's the right book for someone, but not me.

I’ve started Another beast’s skin rather curios since the plot was very promising. I think that it had the potential to be a cool book, but ended up in the wrong direction.
I would still recommend it as a nice read, but I was just expecting something more.

Ms. Glover's debut is a well-written adventure!

As someone who is near the protagonist's age, it was refreshing to read; and no, I don't agree with other reviewers who claim the protagonist behaves immaturely. She does not. She acts her age and appropriately in each given circumstance. Her journey was entirely well-realized, and I loved that about Glover's decisions regarding Neysa's history and her journey moving forward.

Glover has a beautiful vocabulary and is very skilled at building her world. Many times, I felt wholly immersed in Neysa's experiences, and it was a pleasure to read. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy!

i really had high hopes for this book based on the concept, but i think it wasn't fleshed out enough and execution fell flat.

i was excited for an older protagonist but she really read the way someone in their late teens/early 20's would speak and act.

the plot had so many pieces and i don't think it came together in a completely coherent way, which made the whole book a little confusing.

The concept of this book sounded interesting and felt like something I would enjoy so I had really high hopes for this one.

But sadly it didn't live upto my expectations. The book isn't bad per se but it's not the best either.

The writing was good but the execution felt a little flat. There was a lot of info dumping and the characters didn't act their age, doing things that often time made no sense.

It would've been nice if the information was revealed over time instead of rushing into it headfirst.

I really wanted to like this one, but from almost the very beginning I was confused... The protagonist seems to behave and speak a lot younger than her 35 years would suggest. And the way everyone becomes a BFF and shares secrets within 5 minutes of meeting felt a lot more like a YA series of relationships than an adult one,
which made the characters difficult for me to relate to..

The plot is also just sort of all over the place and confusing. There's a lot of stuff going on, but it never feels like most of it develops robustly into a coherent world and story. This one wasn't for me...

Another Beast’s Skin was not for me. This started as a fun tale, then quickly became confusing. I felt like this storyline started in the middle (it was the second book in a series) and the characters were not quite flushed out.

I could not get into Another Beast's Skin by Jessika Grewe Glover, which made it almost a DNF for me. I did finish it, but it was okay.

Neysa is a 35 year old divorcee who decides to get away, returning to English countryside, after her fathers death. Little does she know, like-calls-to-like, and she meets others… who don’t quite fit in. Silas, Corra, and Cade are fae, who are on earth trying to solve mystery that will protect both the earthen realm and fae realm.

I really, really wanted to like this book! The idea is very reminiscent of Sarah J. Maas or Through the Door by Jodi McIsaac. But unfortunately, it just fell flat. There were elements of it that were extremely likeable. The world building was good, the mineral/gem search, and the characters were okay – albeit Neysa didn’t seem to act her age. The writing was a bit strange at times, in the beginning of the book you get an MPV from Silas and Corra over one situation… never again are you in their heads and it was just strange. I would have preferred the whole book written from Neysa, even that one scene.

In the end, I kept feeling like some of the vernacular seemed more for a middle grade book, than an adult read. I would never suggest this book to one of my younger students because of the more graphic (yet very short) sex scenes. I truly believe that this series has some potential. I will gladly read subsequent books because I am intrigued enough to see where this is going.
