I was not able to put this down!
Eight survivors sign up for a reality show set on a desolate island. The goal is to imagine survival during the apocalypse and live there a year. They had solar powered cameras, and two emergency cameraman on the island. Splinters in the group form quickly leaving Maddy out in the cold, literally. Tensions run high, the ship meant to pick them up on the last day is nowhere to be found and the cameramen are dead!
Fast forward to 18 months in, and Maddy is the lone survivor, bedraggled and scared and we can't wait to hear this story.
Fans of Survivor, Lord of the Flies will love this book. It was surprising, different, and in a deep way examined what happens when the laws of society no longer apply.
Great read!
Such a great read, I couldnt put it down! From the opening when a woman brandishing a shot gun turns up asking for help, to the island set up where eight strangers are chosen to live on a remote Scottish island - I was hooked. Well written and plotted, some excellent twists that I didnt see coming and a joy to read!
Wow, wow, wow
What a book! I genuinely cannot believe that this book is a debut from the author!!
From the first page, I was absolutely hooked by this book. I needed to know what happened to these people on the island. The writing was phenomenal and I felt at times that I was a contestant on this show.
The author did so much research for this book and it really shows in the writing.
The book is atmospheric, chilling and thought provoking.
I am still in shock that this book is a debut and I cannot wait to see what else the author brings out. It will be an instant pre order for me
A tale of "Survivor" gone wrong! Mystery lovers will enjoy this title. A solid addition to the collection!
This was an topical thriller about the evil in people, how it emerges in survival situations, and how group dynamics feed the evil and cause others to become complicit in it. These kinds of thrillers are always more frightening than supernatural thrillers because it could happen to any of us. The story was very suspenseful, especially, as told in the different timelines. I very much enjoyed it.
I raced through Stranded, it was hugely addictive, with an often distinctly divisive group of characters all taking part in a reality TV show that goes awry.
I'm probably showing my age by referring back to the BBC reality show Castaway, but if you remember that then Stranded will put you in mind of it - a group of strangers thrown onto a remote island for a year and living off the land. Unfortunately in this case personalities clash in a violently unpredictable way..
This is definitely an insightful charater drama and the author does an excellent job of creating the tension and building up to a hugely satisfying finale. You could easily devour this in one sitting, it is twisty and entertaining and the island setting pops.
Very enjoyable. Recommended.
BOOK REVIEW- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
My Thoughts: Thank you to @netgalley , @sarah_goodwin_author , and @avonbooksuk for an E-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book & it was the perfect fast paced book I was hoping for! I loved the adventure psychological type of thriller and found myself so immersed in the storyline. I found myself on the island with Maddy as she fought her way through all the obstacles that the island presented.
Eight contestants take part in a reality tv show where they are stranded on an island for a year.
The main protagonist Maddy is awkward and socially backward, after a sheltered upbringing by her parents.
The other seven contestants all have their own survival skills; as does Maddy with her expertise in foraging.
What starts as a successful social experiment, soon leads to Maddy being ostracised and fast out of the community.
This is a story of survival with some nasty human elements thrown in.
Not your usual closed room thriller, but definitely worth a read, with a few twists and unbelievable moments thrown in.
A suspense, thrilling, gasping and awesome read!
A TV show.
Mandy is the main character with eight other contestants.
Dropped off on an island somewhere in Scotland.
This covers the raw dark side of human nature that will have you reeling in your seat.
It started off slow and arduous then just pumped right up a high mph from 30 to 100! The pace of it threw me right into the story with a breathtaking gasp for air.
This truly is a rewarding read. So if you like your reading to feel intense, if you prefer to read a book in one day…..this is it, you won’t be able to put it down until you’ve read the last page.
When Maddy signs up for a new reality show which will sequester her and seven others on a remote island off the coast of Scotland for a year to build their own mini society after the fictional "end of the world," she's excited. Her parents, who had kept her semi-isolated throughout her life, have recently died and she's looking to get away for awhile. At first, things go well amongst the group of four men and four women; But soon, things take a dark turn and discord rules amongst the group. And things are sure to get deadly, quickly. The question is: who is going to make it off the island alive? And when?
This book was amazingly suspense-filled, since the author not only tells us the story of the ill-fated reality show and what happens while on the island, but mixes it with Maddy's story of arriving back on the mainland in the prologue and of her giving a daytime television interview about her experience. So we know through these chapters fairly early on some key things: Maddy survives, but things go terribly, terribly wrong to the point that not everyone does. Talk about suspense.
And the linear main story chapters don't disappoint either. There's a lot of tense moments and there's a lot of time where you're just waiting for the other show to drop. And there were times I just couldn't put the book down because I had to know how something turned out. It was like slowly watching a season of Survivor go desperately, terribly, wrong.
Also, be prepared to feel the whole range of emotions from this one - frustration, anger, joy, pity, everything. I really went through 'em all. That's a sign of some good writing. that I felt all of those things in one book.
Overall, this was just a great read that I throughly enjoyed. Lovers of suspense will devour this book.
The premise sounded so amazing. My type of read exactly.
Having said that, I am not sure why this book is getting so much hype as it is guilty of serious pacing issues.
Yes, the plot would assume that this will be a nail biter and for me, it felt so lonnnnngggg.
Pacing, is everything and there are too many useless details get in the way of what could have been a good story.
Wow what a read, could not put this book down. Had me needing and wanting to know more right from the start. 5 stars doesn't seem to be enough to give this book
Strangers take part of an social experiment. They have to spend a year on an island alone. What a crazy thing to do. The main character, that tells us the story is soon left alone. There are many misunderstanding and things go wrong. So wrong that is impossible to survive?
I loved the book. It was such a page turner, impossible to put down and I would reccomend it to all psihological thrillers lovers. Mady has a difficult past and she wanted to escape but you can not escape. You have to be prepred for eveyrhing in your life.
Thank to Netgalley and Avon book Uk for a ARC copy.
This was my 1st read for Netgalley November and woah what a book to start with!!
Right from the beginning I was hooked, I read up to 47% in one sitting, as I just couldn't put it down!
Following Maddy on her path to featuring on a reality TV show abandoned on a island, literally had no idea it would turn out the way it did!
I felt sorry for her, I was angry for her and couldn't believe what was happening to her!!
This had everything you would want from a thriller and it had The Island by CL Taylor vibes, which is also really enjoyed!
Can't say anything else without giving any spoilers away!
Suspenseful and addictive this is a must read!!!
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books and Sarah Goodwin for my copy.
If you love thrillers, you will love Stranded!
I think this is one of the few mind-blowing stories that once read in the last year. The tension and so many twists after twists after twists with each page blew me away.
Yes, you know she is alive in the end and escapes the island. Yes; it looks like every other thriller out there, but actually no, it doesn't. It's much more and better than any. I was scared for Sarah and her life when I realised what's actually happening in this supposed to reality show. I felt like watching repeatedly Lost, and that was scary.
I don't know if I liked the ending, but I surely be checking more books by the author and will recommend this one to anyone that’s hunting for an interesting book.
☆Now that's what I'm talking about! A book that I just couldn't put down I was so immersed ..... Hope they make a movie out of it! Grippin!!! Suspenseful! I was up late reading chapter after chapter ....
Can't wait to read more on Sarah Goodwin!
Reality tv meets reality, when 8 people from all different paths of life join together to live or shall I say "survive" on an remote island for what they thought would be less then a year ....
Thanks to Avon Books UK, Netgalley & Sarah Goodwin for this ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity of reading Stranded.
I can already tell you that this review will not do the book justice. I read it in just 2 days and was entirely, unshakeably hooked. I was expecting quite a lot of build up before the strangers reach Buidseach Island but there’s no hanging about with this book, we are straight onto the island and diving into the action!
Full of secrets, darkness, and survival, the fast pace and intensity of this book kept me turning the pages late into the night. I can’t wait to read another by Sarah Goodwin. Thank you!
This book centres around Maddy, a young woman who is grieving after the death of her parents. To try and “find herself” she signs up for a year long reality show/social experiment about eight people stranded on an island, after the end of the world.
Maddy has always struggled to fit in but she’s hopeful she can make new friends on the island.
Initially, everyone seems nice enough but tensions come to the fore and things take a dark turn.
Despite not really liking any of the characters, I felt so sorry for Maddy. How she was treated by the others was awful.
There’s a sense of unease which builds throughout the story and the setting of a remote Scottish island is well described. You really feel the fear and isolation on the island, yet somehow you have to keep reading to find out what will happen.
It reminded me a little bit of a modern day Lord of the Flies.
Some parts I felt did drag on a little bit but on the whole it was definitely a page turner.
I was surprised to find this was the author’s debut novel. I’ll certainly look out for more of her books.
Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for a copy to review.
There have been many, many whodunnits over the last few years set on remote islands, within gated communities or large families. It is a genre I really feel is beginning to get tired and overdone but based on all the five star reviews I requested this book.
A group of 8 strangers apply to be survivalists, Bear Grylls' style, on a remote Scottish island for a year. Maddie, our main protagonist, is quiet, doesn't fit in, awkward but almost immediately gets the backs up of the other participants. She is very quickly ostracised and uses her wits and knowledge of edible plants to keep herself alive.
I just didn't like this book unfortunately. It was so unbelievable that the other "contestants" would treat a fellow participant the way almost the entire group treated Maddie from the outset, all the while their actions were supposedly being filmed (they all wore cameras around their necks and there were hidden cameras in the trees) for later editing by the TV company. There was not one likeable character. Maddie herself, I found to be incredibly annoying, and I just wanted to say to her - there is NO prize, just request to get off the island!
Boring and repetitive in parts, I skim read to the end just to finish the book although by that stage, I really had lost interest in what happened to Maddie.
A true page turner... I couldn't wait to see how this book ends and couldn't wait to continue reading it. I don't read fiction books often, but this truly had me hooked. It's a real story of survival (of the fittest and most determined). Eight people sign up for a reality show to survive on an island, but then the boat doesn't show up... What happens next? What happens to the 8 when division and strife gets one of the 8 kicked out of the group and forces that person to survive on their own? I couldn't wait to find out!
