It was my first book by these authors and I was pleasantly surprised.

The writing was good and the characters were well fleshed out. The MMC and FMC had a good connection even though their start was because of a misunderstanding.

The book was funny and light and really took away some of the COVID related stress.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Harlequin Junkie Top Pick

Brilliantly hilarious! This was an absolute hoot to read, I instantly connected to both Jen and Gabe. These two could not be more perfect for each other, their chemistry was so hot it was impossible not to root for them to get together! I loved the way that Dineen and Summers plotted Jen and Gabe’s entire interaction and meeting, the fact that they were right in front of each other the entire time unbeknownst to them was pure perfection. I have to say the touch of divine intervention was the perfect twist to this cute romcom.

Gabe was such a great character and the fact that he was genuinely a nice guy made him giving Jen the advice that he did seem so natural. I loved that even though ‘the sisters friend’ had been coming of as such an odd ball Gabe continued to be supportive and kind to her. Also how cute was his relationship with his parents? The Daly's were epic! I loved Mary and Joe to bits; also how’s those names for irony? I loved the way Mary helped push Jen and Gabe together in the way only a mother can. As for our erotic flower drawing Jen, what was not to love about her open optimism? She was such a relatable and down to earth character, that was easy to love.

The God Text is an absolute must read, this witty, hope inspiring, meet cute romcom will have you in stitches reading along as Jen and Gabe get up to their silly antics. This is definitely the type of book that you won't be able yo help but want to go on and go about, all while secretly hoping for a sign of your owning! I can not wait for the next book in this hilarious series!

The Text God could have been a 5 stars novel.

Jenn and Byrne/Gabe are sweet, his family is incredibly welcoming and caring and I love that they are such a big subplot to this story. I think it's quite unusual to have a male main character who quits his financial stability to seek happiness, and that's quite refreshing.

However, two big lows that lost this book 1 star for me:

- Why introduce Jen's grandfather if he never reappears or is never heard of again? I really believed he was the one who had offered for the big canvas. We hear several times talking about Jen's parents and how unsupportive they could have been but they "don't exist".

- why mention in the presentation "Gabriel Oliver Daly agreed to mentor a friend’s younger sister. Unbeknownst to him, after losing her phone, said sister uses her dog walker’s phone to text him about a job offer. He responds enthusiastically"? According to me it's a major spoiler as we discover this twist only a good while after the beginning. I read the presentation just before starting the novel and I think the GOD thing would have been much funnier if I didn't have this information.

I really liked this! It was the silly, lighthearted read that I needed at the moment. A good change of pace, but it still had some very serious moments and a good bit of "finding one's true self" for both of the MCs and also Jen (female MC's) best friend as well. I loved G.O.D.'s family too.

I love that she truly thought that she was texting GOD. And she was...just not quite how she thought! I loved the side characters (except for Alexis, yikes she is terrible) and I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

This sweet story was jam-packed with humor and a Hallmark-esque plot and romance. I finished it in about two days and it provided such a pleasant escape. In my opinion, the characters were the greatest aspect of this book. Not only did I feel like I knew them personally, they all sort of meshed well together to drive the storyline. There was something genuine and familiar about Byrne’s crazy parents, and I thought Jen’s naivety was rather charming. (Why would God actually be texting you?) Not to mention Jen’s talent for painting…interesting lilies? :)

Cheesy? Quirky? A predictable ending? Sure, but still worth a read, in my opinion.

This was an adorably cute book that I managed to read in one day. So good it was hard to put down although I felt embarrassed for the main characters several times.

Laugh out loud, romantic, fluffy read that you won’t have to suspend your disbelief for. I loved this book, at the start of the book I had moments where I laughed out loud. I loved all the characters and especially the parents of Bryne. Some people might be turned off by the premise because Jen thinks she’s texting god, but the people around her question it a lot, so for me it was believable.

This book was such a sweet (and clean) book. I really enjoyed it. Bryne and Jen are the sweetest people and deserve to find their HEA together. You really do root for them. I haven't read any books by this team before, but look forward to reading more in the future. Thoroughly enjoyable read!

Jen is an artist who thinks she is getting texts from God after praying for some help. God is really Gabe Oliver Daly. This book is laugh out loud funny. The characters are all quirky in their own ways, which makes each and every one lovable. Just the comedic break I needed.

Thanks to netgalley and Whitney Dineen & Melanie Summers for the hysterical read.

What a cute, sweet, adorably funny tale!! My first by Dineen and Summers. I need to go back and read the first book in this series and will look forward to the next installment. I loved Gabe's folks, they kinda stole the show for me. Jen was so relatable! Totally saw myself in her and the conversations she had with herself killed me. Just a really fun book!

This story had me laughing out loud with its cheesy, oh so sweet love story. I could not put it down until I finished and then I wanted more. While the story is probably predictable to most, I didn’t care, I loved loved the characters. I want to me Byrne’s family in real life. I also did not realize it was part of a series, you can totally read this story without reading the first one, but I am going to go back and read it just because I want to know if it’s as good as this one.

When I received the email that I was approved for this book on NetGalley, I was thrilled. Although I had not previously read a Whitney Dineen novel, I was happy to see Melanie Summers is one of the authors. I stumbled upon Melanie Summers in the first lockdown (yes first, we are in number 3 in Ontario) and she ended up being one of my fav authors of 2020 to help escape what's going on in the real world.

Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. This novel is a quick, quirky, and easy read and the characters definitely had qualities that were just so slightly out of the norm that it made me forget the world for a day. The problem is that Gabe and Jen are supposed to be falling in love and I just didn't feel the connection between the two. The vibe I got is that Gabe was in a dead-end relationship and one day met a beautiful, free-spirit and next thing you know, he was in love. How often did they really spend time to get to know each other? It's rather unfortunate to me because I was literally laughing out loud in the beginning with the unique "texting GOD" hook and was hoping for a satisfying romance between the two to put a pretty bow on the whole book. Rather than a beautifully wrapped present, it was more like a gift just plopped in a bag without so much as tissue paper to wrap it up.

I will say the biggest redeeming characteristic is the underlying theme of family in the book. We don't get to know much about Jen's family besides the fact they aren't supportive. Gabe's parents really became part of Jen's family and I appreciated the unsaid idea that family goes beyond blood.

This book is getting four stars just for the amount of emotion it elicited. Seriously, this book had me feeling so much secondhand embarrassment, it was an accomplishment. I knew I would feel that based off the blurb, but it was even worse than I was expecting.

The relationship between Gabe and Jen was cute, and it definitely kept me hooked. I spent the entire time wondering how they would meet, and how the disaster would resolve. I loved how there wasn't unnecessary angst, this book stuck to what was essential.

I will admit that this book does use some overused tropes, but I can ignore that. I really enjoyed it, and I'll definitely be going back and reading the first book in the series!

This was a wonderfully cheesy rom-com! I loved this book from start to finish. The characters were so engaging and well developed. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments that just had me howling with laughter. Both character just want the life they imagine for themselves. The plot lines and interactions were so well interwoven that brought together the main characters to their much deserved HEA.
Jen and Gabe were such lovable characters. Jen had a lot of down-on-her-luck moments, but as she interacts with Gabe aka "God," she becomes more self-confident. I enjoyed how much she tried her best at the jobs that she had. While she was not well suited to some of them not liked them all that much, she still put her all into them.
Gabe seemed like he had his life all planned out, but really not interested in how his life has turned out. It becomes obvious he is at a crossroads when his firm wants him to do something towards a client he is not really comfortable with. I loved his sweet guy nature. As he interacts and helps Jen, who he really does not know all that well, he finds himself asking about the direction of his life including his relationship with his long time girlfriend. I absolutely wanted to adopt Gabe's parents. Mary and Joe! They had a lot of sass for a long time married couple and showed a lot of interest in not only Gabe's life, but also that of Jen, who they started to view as part of the family. The pacing and writing held my interest. The ending was so satisfying! Overall, I would highly recommend this book for those who like lighthearted, cheesy rom-coms. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

First off, Jen thinks God (yes with a capital "G") is texting her. So just forget your sensible side that is yelling at you that Jen is very naïve. If you can just go with it, you'll have a great time!
Jen is a naïve and free spirited artist. Gabe is a stoic lawyer. But Jen brings out his lighter side and it's fabulous. The two together are so much fun!
I love his parents and I laughed out loud over the his sister!
This is a light read with fun hijinks!
I can't wait for their next book!

Sweet, clean romance. Jen Flanders is a struggling artist/dog walker in NYC. On a down day while doing yoga she asks God for a sign that she continue to carry on and surprisingly she receives a text from GOD. GOD gives her a lead on a better job and and helps her out once she has it. She naively continues to text with GOD enjoying the contact. Gabreil Oliver Daly is a lawyer who doesn't love his job. His girlfriend of eight years is pushing for him to make partner as she has and according to their plan. But his last big assignment is legal but morally questionable. He has also agreed to mentor a younger sister of a friend and is reaching out to her via text.

The story is cute and when Jen meets Gabe there is strong attraction. Jen is kind and her faith positive attitude is heart warming. I have mixed feelings towards Gabe. His way to make a legal situation right is not legal and could get him disbarred. Also even though everyone agrees his girlfriend is terrible he still should man up to the fact they did have a plan together. And while he is honest when he breaks up with her, I think he owed her more than one conversation especially when she continues to send him gifts. Side characters like his parents come off almost as more interesting than the leads. And strangely Jen twice walks in on a naked people. I suppose it is for laughs but seems odd in an otherwise clean book.

Overall the story is good for a quick read. It is the second in a series and I enjoyed it enough to look for the next story to be published. Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for an ARC book in exchange for an honest review.
