I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. I really enjoyed this one the plot kept me interested until the end which is not easy, and the characters were engaging and believable. I highly recommend this book.
This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!
Daughters of the Sea tells the tale of secrets, mystery, and magic. The setting was haunting and atmospheric. The story was well-written. However, I did not care for the dual storylines. I thought it would be better if it was solely focused on Runa. Still, I recommend this for fans of gothic novels!
When Runa moves to Departure Cove, her mother’s hometown for a fresh start, she not only quickly feels a connection to the seaside town, but immediately falls for the handsome Chase Everwine. But her mother warns her of bad things to come and Runa begins having strange visions. She feels both pulled to Chase and his home, the mysterious Everwine Manor.
The story is told along alternate timelines: Runa’s in the present day, and that of Runa’s ancestors, all women who possess mysterious powers, both to their benefit and their detriment.
I loved this book - it was a quick read and the pages just flowed so easily that I was sailing through the book before I knew it. The plot was also super intriguing, with a great setting: a seaside town with a mysterious mansion and family, a woman with maybe-powers she doesn’t understand and a strange family legacy that her mother won’t talk about. Yes, please!
I loved that we got to see both the history of Runa’s family alongside her story. It out together a lot of pieces as we watched her try and decipher what was going on. And it’s quite a doozy. I can’t give too much away, but, WOW, I was not disappointed. There’s complexity and plenty of twists that make things really interesting.
Runa is also a character worth rooting for. She’s really a brilliant character full of complex emotions and struggling to fit in to a new place and feeling a bit…unwell at everything, which should actually be playing out like a fairy tale.
I wholly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good suspenseful thriller with a bit of a paranormal element. You won’t be able to put this one down!
This is a new author for me and I will be going back to read more books! This is the type of book that I get into. Soo much suspense and mystery! I give this book a 5 stars! I started reading it on a Friday night and didn't want to go to sleep because I wanted to finish it. What a mysterious family and I enjoyed getting to know all of the characters. The author weaves many stores together past and present and it was so interesting to read how they all related to each other. I really liked Runa's character and wished I could have kept reading more about her
Well done on the story telling and character development!
A beautiful story of magic, generational curses and strength. Follow Runa in this dual timeline novel.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This was a mystical, magical tale set in Vardo, Norway and Departure Cove, Oregan. The story of a family of women throughout the centuries, women who share magical abilities. I loved how the story was told and how the atmosphere of the book was creepy and mysterious, the characters were well written and I was enthralled with the women of this book. When I finished the book I googled Vardo and read more about the Steilneset minnested, the monument to the women executed as witches in Norway. I had never heard of this and found it fascinating.
This was a great book, so enjoyable and the ending was so good. This is a must read for those interested in witches.
This was such a nail biter of a page turner. A great read. I loved the book. The plot was very well written and I cannot wait for another book. This was from a new to me and great author. Will definitely recommend this book.
Daughters of the Sea is a suspenseful story that follows Runa as she discovers the powers she holds while learning about her family’s history and its secrets.
There was so much to this story, varying characters, multiple stories. It was mesmerizing! The story grabbed me from the first chapter until the final chapter. It was a suspenseful read that I couldn't put down because I had to find out who was on the 3rd. floor!
It's the first book I have read by HR Mason and I'm looking forward to reading many more. I gave this book 5 stars!
I was given a free eARC of "Daughters of the Sea" by NetGalley for my honest review.
I received an ARC on NetGalley. The plot is well developed and the reader is engaged from beginning to end. I am left wanting more and emotional for the characters. What an amazing piece of work. Bravo.
I have never read HR Mason before. This book was an easy read and I found myself not being able to put it down. I loved the switch between time period in particular. I gave it 3.5 stars in my Goodreads review. I might give another one of our her books a read!
Thank you to NetGalley and HR Mason for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest review and feedback.
Runa has moved back to her mothers home Departure Cove. She meets a man who at first seemed rude but eventually sweeps her off her feet. His family does not like her and does not hide it. Her mother is concerned for her and her safety.
This book had a little of everything. Magic, mystery, love, murder, lies, family drama. I have not read a story like this one and I throughly enjoyed it. Plot was easy to follow and captured my attention. The characters made you want to be right beside them in the story. This book made me wish I had magical powers. I do feel as if the ending was a little rushed. The first half was very flushed out but the ending seemed to wrap too quickly.
This is my 2nd book by HR Mason, and I have enjoyed both. This one read like a hallmark ghost movie. It was light enough to be an easy read but still had the mystery and paranormal elements to keep me intrigued.
I was so excited to dive into Daughters of the Sea. A family story that leads back to Norway, in the 1600s. The story is draped in mystical powers that have traveled from female to female, to the present day. I was all in! I dove in waiting to be enchanted with this mystery, down by the sea in Departure Cove. Try as I might, I could not get into the book. The writing did not have a natural flow, and it was choppy at times. Daughters of the Sea is a quick read, and the story line is enticing. It kept me flipping through the pages until the end. Which I thought was also a little lackluster. Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book.
Runa is starting a new life in Departure Cove with a new business. All starts well until she meets Chase Everwine. Their chemistry is instant and Runa falls fast and hard for Chase. What Runa doesn't realize she descends from centuries of women with special powers. As Runa realizes her marriage and the Everwine family is not what it seems, she discovers more of her heritage, her powers, and the history of the Everwines and her ancestors. Fun read with a straight forward plot.
HR Mason has crafted a hauntingly sinister, deliciously unsettling suspenseful tale by interweaving ordinary with unordinary elements of magic and witchcraft.
The plot isn’t complex and the characters aren’t overly developed, but the atmospheric setting sets a chilling tone that’s blurs the lines between reality and fantasy creating a perfect level of dark whimsy. The setting comes complete with a menacingly old house that holds a tragic history, consistently dreary weather inciting a sense of loneliness and foreboding and a cast of sinisterly characters hiding dark family secrets. I loved how the plot unfolded and the cleverly crafted tangled web kept me guessing right until the end.
Thank you to NetGalley, Tangled Tree Publishing and the author for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
A common story of a woman discovering her power.
It's been done many times before and much better. Just pick up Alice Hoffman and it's a better trilogy.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.
HR Mason is a wonderful storyteller. Daughters of the Sea grabbed my attention from the beginning and continued to hold it all the way until the end.
Daughters of the Sea is a suspenseful story that follows Runa as she discovers the powers she holds while learning about her family’s history and its secrets.
Thank you Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for providing this ARC in exchanged for an honest review.

This was a quick read! And the author did an amazing job writing this one!
Totally would recommend!
A family tree steeped in mystery. A new town filled with old secrets. One woman is determined to uncover the truth about her past, but Everwine Manor won’t easily give up the truth.
