You Can Run is another hard-to-put-down, twisting, fast-paced espionage thriller from the talented mind of former-CIA counterterrorism analyst Karen Cleveland. Leveraging her experience working in the intelligence community, she crafts a gripping story that is equal parts plausible, engaging and frightening.
You Can Run brings two women together, each with an insatiable motivation to do whatever is necessary to achieve success – a CIA analyst trying to protect her family and a reporter looking to publish the most explosive scoop of her career. Together they must leverage their individual areas of expertise to unravel a deep conspiracy and expose those who are pulling the strings, before the powers that be hurt the people close to them and start a war that threatens to wreak havoc on the world.
A compelling and suspenseful thriller, You Can Run will take over your brain as you try to piece together the conspiracy while also contemplating how far you’d go to protect your family. And just when you think you have it figured out…you find out you actually don’t know anything when Karen Cleveland drops in a diabolical game changing twist. Trust me, this one will stick with you and make you question everything.
Karen Cleveland is great at getting your most basic fears and turning the heat 1000 % up. The pace is brisk, the characters are relatable, and the scenario may not be a most realictis one, but suspencion of disbelief is not a problem. Compared to the previous books by the author, where you constantly had to guess could at least one of the main characters be trusted, this book has way less trust issues. Also, there are two viewpoint characters, which is an interesting choice, especially as they interact a lot, but the author makes it work.
A quick enjoyable read. Will definately read more books by Karen Cleveland
At first I thought this story started off a bit slow! But it quickly picked up not long after!
We have your son.
It's the call that's every parent's nightmare. And for CIA analyst Jill Bailey, it's the call that changes everything.
CIA Analyst Jill Bailey gets a phone call every parent fears!
She tried to find out she harbor going on!
If ya!l are looking for a police setting look no more!
This is a fast paced book with amazing twist you won't see coming
Karen Cleveland is a master in creating espionage-related stories, with a moral dilemma in the middle. In her newest novel, she painstakingly draws the portrait of a CIA analyst who is also a loving parent that needs to make the unbearable choice between the safety of her child and her duty.
This wasn't as fabulous as Need to Know but still good if you like that style of story. I do love a nice little twist at the end at Cleveland didn't disappoint.
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
I want to like this and I think I talked myself into it. A bit more genre and less psychological than I’d hoped, more of an action story than a proper thriller. But it had a good pace and sucked me in in spite of all that. 3.5 rounded up
Took awhile to get into this book but then it really took off. Real surprise ending- definitely did not see that coming. Jill's baby is kidnapped from daycare and she's told to do something in return if she wants him back. four years later, because she supposedly went back on her word, both her kids are kidnapped .
Karen Cleveland’s novels are known for their twists & turns, and *You Can Run* was no exception.
Jill Bailey, a CIA analyst, has to make a split-second decision after she receives a phone call with instructions. If she doesn’t follow those instructions, someone close to her will die. Struggling to find out who and why, it’s a race against the clock.
When Cleveland released her debut a few years ago, I was hooked on the novels. It spun me around like a Harlan Coben novel. This one was no different. Complete with nonstop action and a cast of unforgettable characters, this novel is a fun, fast-paced, and sometimes scary read.
This book is told from the first-person POV of Jill, as the primary character, but chapters are broken up and also told from the first-person POV of one of the, albeit important, secondary characters. First-person is a difficult task, and Cleveland does it well. At some points though, I wish we could’ve stepped slightly out of the characters mind to get a better idea of the setting. Overall, it was a job well done!
*You Can Run* is a solid thriller & mystery. It will keep you thinking and guessing until the end and is a nonstop roller coaster.
You Can Run is the latest book from Karen Cleveland, and is another sure-fire winner. CIA Analyst Jill Bailey gets a phone call that her infant son has been kidnapped, and she’s forced to manipulate some information at her job. I won’t say more, but rest assured this one starts off immediately and never slows down. Each chapter is filled with edge-of-your-seat tension, thrilling action, and superb dialogue. I was glued to the story, and couldn’t flip the pages fast enough. Quite a thriller, great ending, easily a 5 star read! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was sent to me by Netgalley on Kindle for a review. It is innovative. The story is intriguing. It is one of the best books I have reviewed for Netgalley ever. The story weaves into the unexpected. It is simple to understand yet at times, one wishes for more details. Try this one. I look forward to more from this author in the future.
