This story was well-told and engaging throughout. I think it will definitely find its right audience and continue to inspire.
What a whimsical ride this sorry was. Absolutely lovely in every way, although I do wish it had been longer.
As is common, this book uses natural magical ability as a metaphor for sexual identity. So the overall aim of this book becomes clear within a few pages. Beyond that, we have a solid exploration of magic, clear rules and good and bad witches.
For me the pacing was a little bit off in this one and it never found its groove. And there lacked character development.
A cute coming of age fantasy story that mixes witchcraft and girl love - two of my favorite things. Lilla and her sister get sent off to visit their aunt on a family vacation. Though it is something to look forward to, Lilla is still a little hesitant. When she arrives, her doubts are washed away in a mix of excitement and family activities.
On this vacation she stumbles upon a couple of self reflective realizations...she might be a witch with magical powers...and she might like girls. Both of these revelations turn Lilla's world a little topsy-turvy as she tries to comes to turns with and master both.
But things may not be as they seem. And evil witch lurks along the edges of Lilla's newfound abilities and her soul might be in danger.
If you aren't hooked yet I don't know what other details I can provide to try to capture you...there is a talking cat? No? Well you should pick it up and read anyway. Its a charming story about self discovery and learning how to come to terms with who you are and the self love it takes to nurture yourself along the way.
If you are worried about the witch - it all ends well in an uplifting and heartwarming close of events. Read to find out how! Highly recommended for any young reader.
Lilla has always known she's different and when she goes to stay with her aunt in Italy for the summer, she finds she really IS different. She's a witch! As Lilla explores her new powers and fights against evil, she discovers more about herself and accepts herself, making this coming out and coming of age comic full of love amazing illustrations and plenty of magic!!

I don't know why, but this didn't hold me attention like I thought it would even though it has all the elements I typically like in a story. I worry there's a lot of gay witch graphic novels already. The ending felt expected but rushed so not satisfying.
Fun, short graphic novel about a young teen who discovers she is both a witch and a lesbian while visiting her aunt in Italy. It includes a talking cat!
I loved this SO much!!! The art and story were charming and enjoyable to read. I really liked that main character was on a journey to discover her witch powers AND discover her sexuality.
What a gorgeous coming of age graphic novel! You fall in love with Lilla almost immediately, and besides Stregnona and her demons the entire of cast of characters are loving and supportive. I love the integration of the Italian folktales and culture.
Lilla comes from a long line of witches, but she doesn't' know this. She only knows that she is enjoying going to her grandmother's house in Italy, every year, and is happy to be back. Her grandmother decides it is time to get her into the family business, and so gives her a magical book that teachers her the ways of the witch. She doesn't know where the book came from but enjoys learning all the spells she can do.
And, there is an evil witch, possessed by a demon that wants Lilla for her own.
And her sister keeps trying to set her up with a boy, while she would rather draw and learn more magic.
Cute story, wonderful characters and how important it is to be true to yourself.
