I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. I really enjoyed reading it the plot was interesting and the characters made me want to know more about them. I highly recommend.
I love any story set on a tropical island. Add in a hurricane, some stubborn, spoiled socialites who refuse to leave and MURDER and I am all in! This was a well written, fast paced story that took me away from a late winter arctic storm in my area. I enjoyed the descriptions of Mustique, a private island, first owned by the Lady Glenconner and her husband and now a playground for the rich and famous. Thank you Netgalley, Quercus US, and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. Available now
I have read the author’s work, Lady In Waiting, therefore I was excited to read her fictional work. I really find this novel to be very well-written. The setting of a remote private island is filled with vivid details. I like how the main character is an older woman which I find to be very unusual when reading novels. I found the mystery very complex and intriguing. I kept guessing who the murderer was. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised by the author’s mystery novels. I hope Lady Glenconner can write more mysteries. I recommend this novel for fans of Simone St. James, Victoria Holt, and Susanna Kearsley!
Our main character, an older woman lives on an island paradise with little to no crime. The local police has been there a short time as an official but was born and raised there. When a young woman is found murdered , Lady Vee flies to the island to comfort her friend, Lady Blake. More people are dying and it's up to Solomon and Lady Vee to end the killer's spree, even if it is someone no one can believe is a criminal. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I had a difficult time getting into this mystery. The writing was fine, the setting exotic and lush, the characters... well, that's where I hit the snag. It was impossible to really care about any of them, worth yet try to relate to the them in any meaningful way. Seriously, she and her family owned the island that they are living on?! The celebrity name dropping was painful and her "lady bountiful" vibe seemed to give the impression that everyone on the island were her serfs / servants.
Not a bad story, well written even. I just hated the characters which took away from my enjoyment.
Such a cozy book to read. The descriptions given made me feel like I was on the island. I need to find an island like this one. I read this book in one day while flying with layovers. It was a great book to keep my attention and make me forget how tiring flying can be.
An interesting little mystery set on the island of Mustique, it's written by someone who visited there many times as part of Princess Margaret's entourage. It focuses on the mysterious disappearance of a wealthy young woman and the young police chief who leads the investigation at a time when a hurricane threatens the island. He is a native to the island, but seems to get on well with the opulent residents, including a famous actor, a rock star, and a British aristocrat. The characters are very unique and interesting. The luscious setting is described in a way that makes one really feel as if they're present on the island. The plot, however, could use some additional intrigue, as it seemed quite predictable at times. I also felt the life & native culture of the chief could have been expanded upon a bit more.
Murder on Mustique by Lady Anne Glenconner was a mystery that had me guessing until the very end! This book takes place leading up to a hurricane and you can feel the energy get more frantic as the storm approaches and bodies pile up on the beautiful, sandy shores of this private enclave. Lady Glenconner is a skilled writer and every chapter left me craving more! Without giving away the ending I will say I love where she left the story! Perfect for reading while at the beach or while dreaming about a beach, sure to brighten up you TBR pile!
The descriptions of Mustique are quite lovely, and it's interesting to get a view of place that is normally private.
The mystery is average; the book's chief attribute is that the author was a close friend of Princess Margaret and sprinkles tidbits about their friendship.
I enjoyed this book. It was a good story, and I was interested in reading about Mustique. I think it would be a good vacation or beach read.
I had read Lady in Waiting by the same author and I loved it so was delighted to be approved for this one. A fabulous read set on the beautiful island of Mustique.
This just wasn't for me. I love mysteries and the Caribbean, but the name dropping and the plethora of drop-dead gorgeous people dripping diamonds and leaving sunbeams in their wake on an outrageously expensive private island was way too much. I couldn't relate to anyone, didn't really care about anyone. It is not my world.
This a very well written mystery novel. I loved all the details about life on the island. It gives a reader a very interesting and detailed description on the lives on the characters. The mystery itself was full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the very end. I highly recommend this for those looking for a solid good summer read, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Ever since Lady Anne Glenconner wrote her memoir, I have loved her. If she narrates this one, I will absolutely cry upon it's release. I love her so much and respect her more than anyone has ever respects a Lady-In-Waiting. This book was so interesting and a little dramatized peek into the famed Mustique.
