I've read books by this author before and always really enjoy them. This was no different. I couldn't put it down - I read over 70% in one sitting and only stopped because of the time and I needed sleep!! The tag line on the front cover drew me in and I wanted to find out if there was any ulterior motive or hidden agenda behind the marriage. Was everything as it seemed? The story is told from multiple perspectives and occasionally flicks back to the night of Jesse's death. The multiple perspectives can make it a bit harder to follow if you're not used to it, but having read books by this author before, I was ready for it! Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend.
This is an incredible read!
The whole time I was sitting on the edge of my seat, because really, marrying your son's killer??? This screams suspicious behaviour and ulterior motives loud and clear and I could not wait to find out the what, the how and the why.
I love watching sports and I even skipped watching a few dart matches in favor of continuing to read. That's how good it was for me.
As the story unravels, it goes without a doubt that some unsavory details are surfacing and honestly you never ever should judge a book by it's cover. That's a lesson I learned here.
This is a book that did not allow me to put it down. I utterly loved it. 5 stars does not seem enough.
Thank you
My first K.L Slater and I am completely hooked on the style and story. Highly recommend and will purchase several physical and digital copies for library collections.
Just reading the words on the cover had me interested in the premise of this book. I was interested to see what exactly was happening and, obviously, if there were any ulterior motives.
I enjoyed the numerous POVs telling the story so that you’re given just enough information to wonder what was going to happen next and if your theories were correct. I wouldn’t say I connected to any of the characters, the story felt more like you were watching from the outside. The ending wasn’t overly predictable, which I liked, and I think I was expecting way more drama.
This was definitely an interesting premise, and although did the storytelling was a bit slow at times, I was interested in seeing how everything played out in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.
This book has a believable cast of characters. It is well written and very twisty. The story was very engaging and gripping.
But it could have been a bit more gritty
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
Reading the synopsis of this book, I expected it to be like The Serial Killer's Wife by Alice Hunter which was a very good book. But NOOOOOOOO, this is one very different kind of "WHAT" book. Why WHAT? Because I said WHAT at some point in every chapter, it is that deliciously twisted. The characters, and there are many, have all chosen sides in this story and each has a very good reason. But, I kept turning pages, thinking someone is going to explode any second now, but nope. When the end comes, and it's a very good one, all I could say was.....I need to read this one again!!!
Holy Guacamole! I stayed up late at night reading this book and finishing it. In a nutshell, a woman marries a man who killed her son. As the story progresses through the pages, the story is told little by little, throwing twists that I never saw coming. I have been a huge fan of K.L. Slater's for a long time - her books just keep getting better. I can't wait for Slater's next page-turner.
Another gripping read. From the start I was drawn into the book by the idea of this marriage. Unconventional by any standards it soon becomes clear there is more up it than it seems. Twist after twist makes it unputdownable. For lovers of mind games, this is a MUST
This author just keeps getting better and better with every book she writes
I have always been a big fan of the author and K L Slater is now becoming an auto buy : auto request author
The storyline, at times, can be unbelievable. However the author throws in so many twists and turns that the reader quickly forgets that and becomes engulfed in the story
I loved reading the multiple perspectives and I was greedy to finish the book that I read it one sitting
A highly recommended book
The Marriage by KL Slater : if you’re on the look out for an insanely gripping thriller, this one is for you!
I can’t put into words how much of a page turner this is, it’s written so well - you’ll be thinking ‘what on earth can happen next?!’ and have absolutely zero clue what twists are in store…
Missing one star as I guessed the ending (does it count if I only realised just before the start of the last couple of chapters?) but other than that, a crazy good read 👏🏼
Loved this thriller , kept me on my toes wanting more , I really clicked with the characters which made the book more enjoyable, will be definitely reading more by this author
This book was a decent read - it kept me entertained while on vacation. However the writing felt a little lazy. The “bad guy” was clear all along - I’ve never encountered a character more toxic than Robert! - and attempted diversions by the author were obvious and not believable. The secondary characters (the teacher and Audrey) didn’t feel like they fit well into the story and were a distraction. I hope for better from this author in the future.
This was a really disappointing read.
I have previously read and really enjoyed books by this author before but this one really missed the mark.
This is definitely more of a domestic suspense rather than thriller.
I found this book really dragged on, with little action until the very end.
The concept was interesting but after the first 50 pages, not much happened.
The writing and characters were just okay.
Overall, I was disappointed by this book, I found it boring and didn't really care by the time I got to the end. I will read more by this author in the future, as I hope this was just a blip and her other books are fantastic as the ones I've previously read.
I love this author and have found the previous books to be gripping and engaging, and this one was no different, this has a fantastic plot and I raced through!
I love K.L. Slater and I can proudly say that I have read all of her books. I have loved every single book, so of course I was very excited and had to read this one immediately.
Boy it was gripping, full of unexpected twists and turns and it kept me hanging on the edge of my seat.
Run don't walk for your copy!
A big thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book.
Another fantastic read from the author. Never disappoints! This one is as gripping as always with some great twists. Fascinating characters too.
HOLY....this book was AMAZING!!! One of the best I've read all year. It was so chilling, spooky, mysterious, and I LOVED it! K.L. Slater is such a genius. The premise was truly terrifying and I couldn't stop talking about it even after I finished reading.
Good read, enjoyable and keeps the reader guessing. I am a fan of the author and have read several of her books.
Loved the characters and the insight we get of them all from every angle. The twists and turns throughout kept my attention so much that i read the book in a day.
