I have enjoyed KL Slater's books before, but I when I read the blurb of this novel, I have to confess about being a little bit worried that I wouldn't enjoy the content/subject matter.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but as we learn about why our protagonist is doing what she is doing, we begin to understand it.
This book is a brilliantly unusual thriller, with a unique storyline that shouldn't be missed.
I was a little apprehensive going into this book because even though it sounded interesting, I was worried it would be your usual, run of the mill thriller. I was so wrong.
This book really sucks you in from the first page. We follow Bridget and Tom as they start their marriage following Tom's release from prison, much to his parents horror. Quickly, the story branches out into sub plots & places suspicions on almost every character.
This was really enjoyable and difficult to put down. It didn't go in the direction I was expecting and had an ending I did not see coming. In saying that, I think the author maybe lead the reader a bit too far in a different direction than the ending actually took. That's just a personal take, I still really enjoyed the ending & I was definitely shocked.
I gave this 4 stars⭐
Thanks to K.L. Slater, Bookouture & NetGalley for an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere.
But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.
The man who killed my son.
My attention was immediately captured when I finished reading the premise of this book! I couldn't wait to get started to know the entire plot and I wasn't disappointed.
Right from the first page, the book is filled with tension and there were so many twists that I didn't stop reading until I reached the end!
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
I loved this book and the wonderful author who wrote it! What a shocking, twisty, unbelievably book this was. I could not put this book down for the life of me. I finished it in one day. 5 stars
#TheMarriage #NetGalley I was intrigued by the plot of this book which seemed a bit different from the norm. An easy read but a bit slow and descriptive in places that made me skim read a lot of the time. Nevertheless an interesting and at times, a poignant, read and I enjoyed the different points of view.
She’s down it again lol another rapid read from KL Slater….fast paced a real page Turner as per usual and one I raced through like nobody’s business, great twist too, loved it just as I loved all her previous offerings! 5 stars!
The premise of the book had me hooked. Bridget marries the man who was responsible for killing her son. I immediately needed to know more. The twists and turns kept me gripped and the characters were believable, A great, convincing read.
First off a huge shout out to #NetGalley, #Bookouture, and #KLSlater for this ARC. Thanks yall!
This was a great book that prodded me to think. Bridget is a single mom whose son was killed. She's just trying to find happiness again. Why is everyone so against her moving on? Thomas and Jesse were once great friends, but one night after too much to drink the unthinkable happens.
A story that's for our times. Very poignant yet completely something that could happen.
Grab your copy today and settle in for an intense ride that grabs hold and won't let go.
Loved this book, well thought out full of twists. Amazing characters ‘ loved the fact it all came together & tied up nicely at the end. I would highly recommend this book.
The first sentence in the blurb says it all. It was fast paced , twists and turns galore. It had two different timelines which became confusing at times but I adore your books and will always buy your books.
What an unusual but riveting plot! The Marriage by K. L. Slater sure had me by the hooks right from the first chapter. The book explored a relationship between an older woman & a young man - this wasn't surprising to me as such relationships exist. Where this felt very "wtf" was that the young man served time for killing the older woman's son. Add to the fact they knew each other from the very beginning since the man was a child hence gave off very 'predator' vibes. Nonetheless it made for good reading. The characters in the book were good. Bridget was a complex character I found hard to like or even dislike. I liked that she is a strong, determined woman. Jill, Tom, Coral & Audrey were good characters too. The plot was great & I liked the twists at the end!
Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture & K. L. Slater for an arc!
This book is just amazing! the plot the characters the twists the pacing the premise is brilliant the plot hooked me from the start! This read was super enjoyable and defiantly a page turn, a book you can read in one sitting! highly highly recommend this book and i will continue to look for more books by the author!
What a brilliant read. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Loved the storyline, characters and the twists and turns. Was hooked from the beginning. Highly recommended and well deserves the 5 stars.
Thank you Netgalley.
3.5 Stars- I requested this one solely based on the enticing blurb! This was a solid mystery that had me questioning a lot of the characters motives throughout the story. While there was a lot of background on the characters that seemed like a lot at times, I think it really helped the reader get the backstory (which ultimately plays into the plot). Thank you to NetGalley, KL Slater, and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The Marriage by K. L. Slater reeled me in from the first few pages and I finished it in one sitting. We are introduced to a mother who lost her only son ten years ago when his best friend killed him with one blow, fast forward ten years and she now has a new house and new husband. The husband is the one who killed her son!! Loved the twists throughout and was not expecting the ending. A fab book.
I could not finish this book or even get into it. The writing was easy to read, but the storyline seemed to drag on to me.
The blurb of this book was very odd - "Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him".
48 year of Bridget marries her dead son's best mate Tom, (age 28) after he has served 10 years for the manslaughter of her him.
Why why why is all I can ask myself. the idea seems a bit farfetched to me and I couldn't understand why anyone in their right mind would do such a thing. Despite that, I did enjoy the book although found it a bit hard to relate to some of the characters.
I would rate this book as a 3.5 stars due to the slightly bizarre storyline, but rounded up to 4 as it was an enjoyable page-turner
KL Slaters books are always quite different and this one definitely turned out to be that.
Thank you to Bookoutre and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book's description makes you want to read it IMMEDIATELY!
........Ten years ago he killed my son.
Today I married him.
Sounds like an episode of Jerry Springer or Jeremy Kyle
Fast, entertaining read that throws some surprises at you
As always, K.L. Slater does a phenomenal job with the plot twist. Ten years ago, Bridget's son, Jesse was killed by his best friend, Tom with a single punch. Tom, a trained boxer, had not meant to kill his best friend but finds himself in jail for those ten years. During this time, it is Bridget who comes to visit Tom and they create a very special bond. Tom and Bridget end up getting married and when the public finds out after Tom's realize, everyone just can't quite believe it. Jill, Tom's mother, is in disgust. Bridget used to be her best friend. Everyone thinks Bridget has a revenge plan up her sleeve, but as fans of K.L. Slater know, it just can't be that simple or straightforward. This book is a must-read for fans of K.L. Slater and those who love a great domestic suspense novel. Thank you to Netgalley, K.L. Slater, and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Though this was not my favorite book by the author, it was entertaining enough. I did like the multiple POVs, but felt the story was not very original and fairly predictable, to be honest.
