This writer never fails to create an underlying anxiety in me from page one! There is a clever tension as well as a development of character that makes for some pauses in the tough times of all in the story.. great read thanks

This is the type of book I choose to read based exclusively on the blurb. What a complicated and juicy story!
The plot of the book is pretty straightforward. Bridget has married her son's killer, who she fought really hard to put in prison. Now, as a married couple, they have to face Tom's parents and Bridget's grandchild, and his mother to tell them about the marriage. While the main plot is unconventional and confusing at times, there are other subplots that make it an incredibly engaging book from the beginning.
The story is filled with twists and revelations that make the reader question Bridget's motivations for the marriage. But it also introduces elements that make the reader question Tom's intentions as well. Every character seems to be hiding something, and as more characters are introduced, more questions arise.
While there are many characters in the book, the story focuses mainly on Jill and Bridget. They used to be good friends until the day Jesse died, so their dynamic is pretty enticing from the first interaction they have with each other. For obvious reasons, Jill doesn't trust Bridget, so her focus is trying to find out why Bridget would marry Tom. She is also dealing with issues in her marriage, which had seemed to be always bad but the situation exacerbated after Tom went to prison.
Bridget, on the other hand, has turned her grief into a successful business model that helped her to be more confident. At times, she comes up as arrogant and clueless about how her actions affect the people around her. However, she is also compassionate and a great grandmother to Jesse's son Ellis. While she has a conflict with Ellis for marrying her father's killer, she truly adores the boy and wants him to have an easy life with his mother, Coral. In some instances, her motivations are not clear and she seems to be hiding something.
While the plot is pretty straightforward and some elements foreshadow the biggest twist, once it was revealed, I was surprised with the turn the story took. While it is not a shocking turn of events, the story has enough mysterious elements to make it somewhat unpredictable, especially after a very minuscule character became a huge part of the ending.
Overall, a twisty thriller that I enjoyed.
Wow, I really enjoyed this book ! So many plot twists that kept me guessing until the very end. I really loved how in-depth the author was with all the main characters. Great read that I didn’t want to put down!
Amazing, twisty, suspenseful read as always! Just when you thought it couldn't get any better there it is. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
Really enjoyed this book, everything just swung in its odds for me! The characters I felt were brilliant and authentic. Some smashing writing, with little to no errors, huzzah! Also the twists where great and the plot really ticked all my boxes!
Not only all that but it was well paced with some intricately well placed storylines which I found mucho enjoyable!
There was a little bit of harmless filler in there but I think that helped with slow burn build up where the suspense was just killing me, leaving me to fly through the pages pronto!
I would definitely read this author again! Really really loved this book!
With thanks to netgalley, publishers and the author for the FREE ARC in return for my honest review. Totally recommend this book!
This is my first K. L. Slater book.. I got to say I am a bit impressed. ⠀
“10 Years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.”⠀
If that line doesn’t make you want to pick up the book. I don’t know what will. haha!⠀
In 2019 Bridget 48 years old was getting ready to marry the 28 years old Tom, who is convicted and in prison for murdering her son ’Jesse’ 10 years ago.⠀
No one can understand why she was marrying him. Tom’s mother Jill believed that she was up to no good. And she was sure that Bridget had hidden agenda. If only she knew why exactly. ⠀
Jesse Wilson and Tom Billinghurst were actually childhood friends. Throughout the story we get to see what happened in the night of the murder back in 2009. As there was only one witness who really never came forward. And why exactly Tom murdered Jesse?⠀
Different timelines and storytellers gives you different Point of views. Each chapter is told by a character. This made the story even more intriguing and captivating. ⠀
I was hoping that the story focuses more on the revenge of Bridget. The whole time I was reading felt as if Bridget was plotting for the grand revenge. But, a lot of things happens aside from that. You get to see more history of many characters and be surprised by the end of this particular character and what they have done. There are many red herrings that by the end you’ll probably laugh at how this ends. Yes, it did wrap up in a clean, neat way. But I was really looking forward and expected a twisted ending that might as well be a cliffhanger. ⠀
Overall the Book got a low rating from me because it was slow in the beginning.. % is the amount of the book I had to get through before it kept my attention enough for me to want to pick it up.. I was close to DNF'ing the book however, a change in the plot snagged my attention,, I thought I had the big twist figured out and then BAM it was not what I was expecting at all.. I am glad that I kept on reading the book i just wish some of it was left out of it.. I mean the book would have given you the same info without less filler.. I do thank Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me the chance to read and review this book.. Recommend? Yes if you do not mind the slow burn to get to the good parts.. ~Happy Reading~
I’ve read all of K L Slater’s books and I’ve not been disappointed yet! The stories move along at pace, individual storylines are interwoven so intricately that you don’t see where it is heading until the final clash!
Brilliant characters create an unputdownable read!!
Why would you marry the man who killed your son?
This is what happens in this book
There are plenty of twists some that you will not expect.
Great book
Thanks NetGalley
Okay so the blurb sold me for this book. Imagine marrying the guy that killed your son. Unbelievable!! Bridget married Tom who killed her son 10 years ago. My meh moments were the distasteful characters, though some were okay. I liked Tom, and yes he was the groom. I was pulled into what will happened next and why. Hmmm The twists were good, but I needed to know what happened to Tom and his new wife Bridget. Will their family acknowledge and accept them? The ending seemed too quick for me but the last chapter was brilliant. Overall, it was a good, twisty, compelling story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy in exchange for my honest review.
I requested the book on the spur of a moment, after seeing a glorious review of one of my friends.
up until more than halfway through the book, i was almost devouring it. I enjoy a lot the MPOV books and the way it was told was very interesting. I couldn't tell where the truth really was, and what exactly happened on that fateful night and the consequences it brought all those years after.
Some parts of that truth were really unexpected and made me enjoy the story even more. But. Unfortunately there is a but coming. But the ending didn't make sense to me. I just couldn't stomach it. It kind of ruined the book for me.
Still it was a nice story.
I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller, I'd expect nothing else from K.L. Slater's books.
The premise hooked me in straight away, and I was excited to see where the book would take us. The blurb implied (and probably what I expected from Slater) more of a revenge scenario 'I married my son's killer' so I am slightly disappointed it went in a different direction.
The characters were complex and some were not likeable at all but that was a good thing, thrillers need villains! The relationships between them all did confuse me a few times but by the end I followed it easily.
I have to say, it was a good ending but I did work it out (which I never do!) but nonetheless it was an enjoyable read, and I would recommend it to lovers of this genre.
Another great one by Slater! I really enjoyed the writing style in this book. The twists and turns kept my attention throughout. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author and I would recommend this book to friends and family.
Really enjoyed this book, plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing throughout, surprisingly twist at the end. Definitely worth reading
Unusual story not what I expected. Lots of twists and a surprising ending.
Characters were well described and likeable, also complex. A good read.
Thank you Netgally and Bookouture for the eArc!
When I requested this book from Netgalley, I was excited when I was approved. I just knew this book was going to be a revenge-type book but I was sadly mistaken. The book started good and it builds up to potentially be a good ending but for me, it fell flat. The ending came from out of nowhere and didn’t live up to the synopsis. I can respect an ending I didn’t see coming and this one did just that but for the wrong story. All the twists and turns were executed fairly well and kept me interested and I stayed up all night to read it hoping it ends with a bang but it didn’t. I will read this author's other books because I wasn’t turned off from her work completely. All in all, I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.5 stars.
Great book. I will add this to my personal classroom shelf. I have recommended this book to several of my friends.
*4.5 Stars*

Enjoyed this book - lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing. The ending surprised me. I found the characters to be really good and to be interesting to me.
Would recommend.
I always enjoy a book by KL Slater and this was no exception!
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t see most of the twists! I love that! I truly enjoy the way this author writes and the multiple viewpoints was handled beautifully. The concept was different and original. It is impossible to really list my high points without giving away spoilers so I’ll just wrap it up and say that this had so many fantastic twists and the last one gave me a chuckle!! Enjoy!
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.
This wasn’t really my thing.. I thought the premise was a little out there. Good book nonetheless, just not for me.
