I am quite ambivalent about this book. I was drawn in by a pretty cover and an intriguing blurb but the plot didn't live up to the hype for me.
On her 25th wedding anniversary Carly Anderson discovers that her supposedly loving husband and family man, Mark Anderson, is leaving her for his 24-yr old pregnant girlfriend. Six months later, Carly is still reeling from the embarrassment of the break-up of her highly publicised marriage. Meanwhile, she also has to deal with the lies spread by her TV personality husband and the vicious ploys of someone who wants to oust her from her own home. Soon Carly is left with no money and may have to even let go of her Forever Home.
You can't help but feel outrage on Carly's behalf for the way Mark has treated and continues to treat her. But this soon grows old, as the story seems to be stuck on her unfair treatment, her musings and occassional rants on the phone to Mark. The chemistry between Ryan and Carly seems forced as Carly doesn't fully trust him. The plot felt dragged to an excessive length with Mark's gaslighting and Carly's phone rants go on, on a loop. While the suspense build-up was thrilling at first, the climax was a letdown. Towards the end, I even disliked Carly because there was no consistency in the character.
Overall, I found the book disappointing. It started off with a bang but soon fizzles down.
Sue Watson is one of my go-to authors for a good thriller. I know that when I pick up one of her books I can expect a fast-paced and well-written story, with plenty of twists and turns. This book is no exception. Carly and Mark seem to be the perfect couple. They have a gorgeous Cornish cliffside house, two beautiful children, and a popular home improvement reality tv show. But is everything as it seems? Are Carly and Mark really this power couple, or is it all an act? What is really going on behind closed doors?
This captivating read is filled with lies, secrets, and betrayal. Like all of Sue Watson's books, the writing style flows smoothly, the characters have depth, and the plot kept me hooked until the final page. The story is told from Carly's perspective. I thought she was a very likable and well-written character. I was rooting for her the entire time and like her, I didn't know who to trust or believe
The ending is not predictable at all, and I was pretty happy with how things turned out.
I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading more books by this very talented author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sue Watson is definitely one of my favorite authors. Her stories are always full of thrills, mystery and surprises. This book was no exception. Carly and Mark seem like a perfect couple. They have the perfect house, perfect life and a perfect family. They have a popular tv show and are well loved celebrities. What happens behind closed doors might be a little different that expected and not in a good way. Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for the free copy of this fantastic book.
I have enjoyed Sue Watson’s previous books and this one certainly lived up to expectations.
Carly and Mark live in a beautiful house overlooking the Cornish cliffs; a house that has made them famous and is Carly’s safe haven. A happy marriage played out for the world to see on T.V., but underneath the facade of marital bliss lurk dark and dangerous secrets. When their relationship suddenly comes crashing down and Carly is in jeopardy of losing her home, she is left wondering just who she can trust.
A great twisty tale which was an enjoyable and entertaining read.
Another excellent addictive Sue Watson novel that will keep you reading and guessing to the very end.
Carly and Mark moved in to a beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had re-designed and renovated making him famous when the project was featured on a television series. Life was wonderful, a beautiful family a loving husband and a property that Carley always thought of it as their forever home. But their lives all changed when Mark fell in love with someone else and suddenly all the dreams are in tatters.
With her dreams fading someone is plotting against Carly and threats start to arrive at her front door, it becomes clear, someone will stop at nothing. Because someone wants to demolish every last thing that makes Carly feel safe. Forever.
This is a great twisty psychological thriller that will keep you reading and guessing. Great characters, some you will like and some you will hate but they make an excellent read. Good plot and well paced.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchanges for an honest review.
I had a hard time getting into the book, however it picked up a bit more halfway through. I thought it was OK, but nothing too gripping for me and I’ve enjoyed some of Sue’s other books more.
This was a very entertaining read and I really had no idea how it was going to end. Definitely wasn’t disappointed with this story.
This book is fabulous! I’ve never been so angry for a character as I was for leading lady, Carly; and I loved that I was angry. How blooming well entertaining and gripping.
This beautiful forever home had been featured endlessly on TV in a show presented by the Andersons, with Mark the husband being the main feature. On the surface, life seems brilliant with their success envied by all, but this description of the house made me think of the relationships that played out through the book.
‘Breakable, the foundations moving all the time, miniscule, but real nonetheless.’
I love this underlying rumble that nothing ever stays the same even if you can’t see or feel the changes. Time moves even if we want to stay where we are forever. We just hope that these movements don’t destroy us. I loved how the cracks in the building were reflected in the cracking relationships.
As for the location, it couldn’t be better. Who doesn’t love a dreamy seaside town? Looe was perfect and there was a real sense of setting. The sea crashing against the rocks; saltiness in the air; the cutesy cafes. Let me stop... I’m not describing a romance at the seaside here, this book will have you clutching it like you’re strangling it. That’s how emotional this journey was. I was so on team Carly throughout.
Without saying too much, I can tell you that those blue skies build up to a great big thunderclap which kept me on the edge of my seat. For thrill seekers who love it scary, for people who like books that delve into the ugliest sides of human nature and for an unforgettable ending... you need to read The Forever Home!
I was so excited to read this. Sue Watson is one of my favourite authors, I like books set in Cornwall as it's where I grew up and I absolutely adore the cover.
I really liked Carly's character, too often the lead women in these kinds of books are weak, whiny and passive but Carly was strong and made sure she got things done! The husband Mark was AWFUL and I was genuinely stressed on Carly's behalf when he was being difficult during the divorce proceedings. Mark's horrible new girlfriend Erin raised my blood pressure even further and whilst this was by no means a relaxing read, I love it when I'm that invested in the characters.
Along with Carly, I was never certain who to trust and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns in the plot. The ending was brilliant.
I would thoroughly recommend this book.
I absolutely loved The Forever Home. It’s perfect. I really mean that.
The twists kept coming, the story kept getting juicer and juicer, the plot unwinding. My god this is fiction done right. Carly is an amazing character, vulnerable yet strong she has a certain charm about her.
So much atmosphere in these pages, I was reading late at night and first thing in the morning to get this one finished. The best book I’ve read in a long time.
Yet another 5/5 by Sue Watson, you NEED to read The Forever Home!
Wow this was an incredible book and definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read I absolutely love this author and this book certainly didn’t disappoint. It is really hard to review it without giving spoilers. I was hooked from the very first page and once I started reading I couldn’t put it down and read it in the sunshine on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It had a lot of twists and turns and the storyline was superb and the characters were easy to engage with and get behind. everytime I thought I had sussed out what was happening something else cropped up and really kept me on my toes while reading. I think forever home would make a brilliant tv drama series.
If you love domestic psychological thrillers then I highly recommend forever home which is due out on 4th June. Thank you #NetGalley for an amazing read.
Another brilliant twisty book by Sue Watson!
Carly and Mark had what appeared to be a great life, two children and a gorgeous house on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic in Cornwall. Mark had fixed up their beautiful house and it had made them famous. However, everything changed on the night of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary party. Carly finds out some devastating news about her husband.
Carly tries to stay afloat, changes her hairstyle and gets a job. She gets threatening messages and packages that bring fear to her in her home. Who is doing this and who can she trust?
This was one of my favorite Sue Watson books yet. I can tell she really puts tremendous thought into her books to really grab the attention of her readers. This was a twisty tale with an ending I didn't see coming and I was pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend this one!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Nothing is ever as it seems, the exterior walls with the cracks that grew unnoticed are an indication of how far from perfect that life is for Carly. Once I picked up my kindle to read, it was almost impossible to leave down , there are some many possibilities of what’s happening that it’s pointless to try guess as the author brings you in so many directions. Normally I don’t like mentioning the end but I didn’t see that one coming. A throughly excellent and enjoyable read.
Sue Watson did it again! Another engrossing, whirlwind, unputdownable, high tension, twisty, riveting, deliciously addictive, one sit read makes you hold your breath till the last chapter, then you pass out because too much excitement, jaw clenching, feet throbbing, nail biting, jaw dropping minutes you spent during your read exhaust the hell of you!
This gripping thriller forces you sit at the edge on your seat and fall down on the floor several times. It makes you agitated, jumpy, nervous but you cannot drop down your reader and run to your bedroom to hide under your duvet. You keep reading and cursing at several characters because Ms. Watson can create truly disturbing, despicable , easily punchable characters you wish to use as your daily punching bags or stress balls for throwing against the wall.
Carly and Mark seem like the couple of the century, organizing their silver anniversary, a perfect power couple, turning into Mark’s construction and home improvement business to a famous tv show. Carly is the brain who created the concept and pitched it to the network channels. And Mark is still charismatic at the age of 51, sealing the deal with American network!
Carly finds herself in front of media circus at the most meaningful day of her life, resenting her husband to turn their anniversary a PR show! But night is young and that is not going to be only resentment she will feel for their entire fake , too good to be true relationship at the end of the night!
She catches her husband with her best friend Lara arguing. She thinks they’re having affair but the truth is so much worse! Her husband is sleeping with Lara’s 24 years old Erin. The very same girl she played with her children at their backyard when they were six!! And she also carries her husband’s baby! Yes, things couldn’t get much worse! But trust me it will!
Carly decides to live their Cornish Cliffside house alone even though her dearest husband tells lies indicating he is the real owner of the house which he isn’t because the house belonged to Carly’s mother and Carly inherited it after her death. But his new young lover Erin is way too much teethy, greedy to let Carly live that gorgeous, spacious place alone as they are forced to live in a two bedroom cottage when their baby is on the way!
Carly keeps getting threatening letters and seeing shadows in the house.
At first she suspects Ryan who starts to work on reconstruction of her house but he is so supportive from the beginning and she decides to share true facade of marriage with him as their relationship is getting more intimate. The things happened in this house behind the close doors are unbelievably frightening!
We ask ourselves why Carly didn’t kick her husband’s ass a few years ago. Why she pretended everything was all right even after her children grew up and left the house. What was Matt holding as a leverage to be trapped in this marriage and at the very same house!
But somebody out there is adamant to kick Carly out! Threats are escalating and secrets are about to come out! It’s time to see what’s going on in this Forever Home!
It’s one of my fastest, gripping reads! The conclusion was my favorite part of the book! Was it fair ending? Absolutely it was!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
What a book! Once I started I couldn't put it down, twists and turns galore - what were the truths, and which the lies?
Carly and Mark have an idyllic house on the Cornish coast, and a fabulous life due to Mark's TV career based on their self-designed home. Is everything as it seems though? Can you ever really trust what the media shows, what you're allowed to see in public? What really happens behind closed doors?
A fabulously fast paced story, pulling the reader into a web of deceit, lies and cover ups. Will certainly be looking out for more books by this author in the future!
This was indeed a great read! I really enjoyed the pace of the story and the need to find out just a bit more...... I read it in just one day and was captivated. The story was faced paced and just as you got one answer there was another question.... I would be interested to read more from this Author.
I loves Sue Watson she’s one of my favorite authors. Her books never disappoint and neither does this one. This book centers around at home that’s supposed to feel safe but does not. I don’t want to give any more way but it’s a winner.
#TheForeverHome #NetGalley
Watson's writing is becoming intense with her every book.
Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively re-designed and renovated – a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cosily on the sofa watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets…
Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.
Carly thinks forever should mean forever though: it’s her home and she’ll stay there. Even the dark family secrets it contains feel like they belong to her. But someone disagrees.
Who and why?
I loved Carly. Other supporting characters were good.
Narration of the story is simple.
I'm doing more promotion on its release date among my fellow Authors, Bloggers, Friends, Family and Followers.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy of this psychological thriller.
