Mark and Carly
Celeb Couple
Have everything
Have nothing
Sue Watson writes great books and this is another to add to that list
Everything seems perfect for the couple who have made a fortune from DIYing and renovating their wonderful cliffside home in Cornwall, fame, adulation, money and success and all this started way before ‘influencers’ and has carried on unabated through this modern trend
Except they are hiding secrets and on the night of their 25th wedding anniversary with the house brimming with sycophants and luvvies it all comes ‘home to roost’
Then on in the story follows the fallout, lets say ‘fallouts’ as there are many and shows both in their true colours, one of them is vile, truly a character to love to hate and one waiting on the end game, I will say no more on who is who
A tense unexpected ending that finishes this family psychological drama with a flourish
Great writing and plot and reading bliss

Wow, so many emotions but mostly anger.
Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively re-designed and renovated – a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cosily on the sofa watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets…
Then Carly no longer feels safe in her home. Threats come in letters and things happen in the home.
We start out with Carly getting ready for their 25th wedding anniversary and Mark is running late. Then she finds out about an affair, with someone young enough to be his daughter. He has been a cheating all through their marriage and this as the last straw.
What he puts her through while she is trying to move on from their marriage is horrible. I wanted so badly to tell her to keep things between the lawyers. Stop calling him. I wanted to reach through the book and throttle Mark. He is such a despictable person. Her 2 adult children don't even seem to like him. I kept thinking of 1 person in their life who could have been the one causing all the things that were going on but I was wrong.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGGalley for the ARC to read

This is a great psychological thriller.
Carly is devastated when Mark tells her he’s leaving her for his young, pregnant girlfriend. It’s not how she wanted to celebrate 25 years together.
Their lives have been played out in front of tv cameras thanks to the house Carly inherited from her mum.
When Carly starts noticing things happening in the house and then a nasty parcel is sent to her, she assumes it’s the girlfriend, Erin doing it all.
Carly just wants a fair settlement in the divorce but Erin wants to get her hands on Carly’s home.
Things spiral out of control and with Erin missing, Carly is under suspicion.
This is a gripping psychological thriller that will have you hooked.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Wow what an amazing book , full of intrigue. I loved the characters , not so much the husband . It just shows you never know what goes on behind closed doors and a seemingly happy marriage isn’t often so . I loved the twists and turns and was glad the book ended the way it did . Loved it , definitely 5 stars from me

The Forever Home tells the story of Carly and Mark, living an idyllic life in England. They have been married for 25 years, and have a little empire, The Forever Home, a reality TV show and brand that fixes up old houses with Mark as the lead on the show. Carly has always taken a back seat to Mark's ambition, so when, at their 25th anniversary party, the secret that Mark has been having an affair with someone comes to light, Carly devastated. Months later, as she and Mark are trying to sort out the proceedings of their divorce, do strange things begin to happen. First, there is sand in the house from the beach, that Carly didn't put there, then a vase is broken. Then Carly begins to get packages that are meant to scare her. Part of the sticking point of the divorce is that Carly wants the house (her family home) and Mark is dragging his feet, since his new girlfriend also has her heart set on living in the house that Carly currently occupies. There are certainly twists and turns, and many false leads until the truth is eventually revealed in a spectacular fashion.

Overall, this book is twisty and goes on many turns that you may not be expecting. Although the first few chapters (where we are meeting the family and getting some background information) are a little slow, it all comes together a few chapters in. The whole book was generally engaging, and kept me on my toes in regard to who was stalking Carly, and what was going on between Carly and Mark. At times, Carly seemed like an unreliable narrator, and that added a dimension to the story that I really enjoyed. I would recommend this to those who enjoy domestic thrillers, and those who want a little different story in their thriller.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

The Perfect Home is a beautiful cliff-side home in Cornwall, overlooking the Atlantic. Carly was gifted the home by her mother as a wedding present, upon her marriage to the perfect husband, Mark. The home had great bones and great potential, it just needed a little DIY. Mark was up for the challenge. As he transformed the house, Carly documented it and posted it to social media. Little did expect, their personal project became a career for the charming and handsome Mark. Carly has done all the work behind the scenes, taking care of Mark and their children, she even wrote Mark's scripts. But the public doesn't know that. All they see is the perfect family.

On the night of their 25th wedding anniversary, the charade all comes unravelled. Mark announces that he's leaving Carly for his mistress, Carly's best friend's twenty-something daughter, Erin, and furthermore, Erin is pregnant.

As Carly's world comes crashing down, strange things begin occurring, mysterious packages arrive, things go missing, and Erin and Mark seem determined to make her life a living hell. The only good thing Carly has going on is her budding relationship with the local carpenter.

Secrets begin to rise to the surface and nothing is as it seems. Carly hopes she will make it out alive and won't give up without her forever home firmly in her grasp.

As I did with Sue Watson's other titles, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering who could be trusted throughout. The plot was well-developed and the characters were realistically flawed. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this title. I look forward to reading more of Watson's work.

The Forever Home is a good domestic thriller. Domestic since it involves members of the same "extended" family, but especially because 95 per cent of it (maybe more) takes place inside the family home, which is by right one of the main characters
It all starts on Carly and Mark's wedding anniversary, during their home party which takes an unexpected turn half way. From there on we descover a lot of past secrets and lies that will shape and unfold the forthcoming events.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Their “Forever Home” must be one amazing house!

Carly loves her home. She has always lived there. She inherited the cliffside home from her mother. She hopes to leave it to her children one day. It is a masterpiece. Sitting high on a cliff, with breathtaking views of the Sea. The house always needs uptake. The elements are not kind to it. Carly’s husband, Mark, re-designed and redecorated it. He did such an amazing job, that his efforts made him famous. Or was it Carly's efforts that made him famous? She filmed it, she told him what to say, she posted videos on social media, she found a way to get support from local businesses to keep working on the house. hmm.... But one thing is certain, it was their family home. They raised their two children there. There kept their secrets there - safe and sound high on a cliff. What could go wrong?

The evening of their decedent anniversary party, Carly learns that Mark has fallen in love with someone else. When she learns who he is in love with, she must pick her jaw up off the floor. Shocked, humiliated, and angry, Carly has had enough.

It is her family home, and she is going to keep it. It was where she grew up, where her children grew up, why shouldn't she keep it? But there is someone who feels entitled to the home. Someone who wants her out. Someone who will do anything to claim it.

This was a deliciously fun and entertaining book. I loved the drama of it, the angst, the characters, the fighting. This was a fast read which kept me engaged, turning the pages, and guessing what would happen next. There are some twists, turns and reveals along the way. With each twist and tiny reveal, my enjoyment grew. Watson knows how to dazzle and wow readers. Are her characters being over the top or behaving as someone wronged would behave? That is for readers to decide. I loved that there were likeable, questionable, and extremely unlikeable characters in this book. This kept me on my toes while trying to decide the motivation of certain characters.

Will the ending blow you away? It did me.

Fast paced, gripping, entertaining and dramatic!

You thought you’d always be safe there… you were wrong.

Carly and Mark Anderson appear to have it all; the perfect marriage, two beautiful children and their forever home, a fabulous cliff-top cottage that Carly inherited from her mom which Mark has spent years renovating, and it's this renovation that has made him famous, after being featured on a tv series, but beneath the surface cracks have started to appear, and not just in their home! Over the years though, Carly has kept a lid on their troubles, not just for their marriage but to save herself because she has a secret too and Mark knows what it is, then just as they are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with family and friends, it's revealed that Mark has fallen in love with someone else and it blows their world apart. Carly is determined to stay in their forever home, no matter what, then she starts receiving threats in all different guises, someone is out to destroy her, but who is it and why?

Cornwall, and this idyllic house, is the perfect setting for this story, told from the perspective of Carly who takes us on a journey through the 25 years of her 'perfect' marriage to Mark, and Sue Watson tells it beautifully. I was definitely Team Carly, her strength, courage and tenacity throughout were remarkable. I took an instant dislike to Mark and felt so much for Phoebe and Jake, who were caught up in the middle of it all. This book is a fast paced read, with twists along the way and an explosive ending, which I did not see coming! I was drawn into this story very quickly, and struggled to put it down when real life got in the way, when I wasn't reading it I found myself thinking about it constantly until I could get back to it, I was so invested in it that I devoured it in two days. Surprisingly this is the first I've read of this authors books, though it won't be the last as I have all her other thrillers, and a couple of rom-coms on my kindle. Another fabulous read from a Bookouture author.

I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

The Forever Home is a very interesting and gripping story.

The blurb had me hooked and I was very pleased it lived up to expectations. Well written and executed.

Carly and Mark appear to be the golden couple. As they prepare to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in their beautiful seaside home with their friends and family, Carly’s world changes forever as Mark announces he is leaving with the daughter of her best friend and that they are having a child together.

As we hear more about the lives of Mark and Carly we see beneath the tv show that they wrote and he presented to see that Mark has been cruel and unfaithful for their entire marriage. As the story continues we discover that Carly has suffered violent attacks from him and stayed only as he held a secret over her, which he threatened to reveal should he ever leave or expose him.

The book is good and easy to read but all of the characters are just not likeable and I struggled to find sympathy or empathy with them. I found that I was just warming to a character and then they fizzled out. The plot was an interesting one although the police involvement seemed off kilter and the ending felt unfinished as the final crime was largely ignored and the characters could have been developed along with this twist to make a much more thrilling ending.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

The forever home by Sue Watson is yet another must read thriller that I can’t recommend enough.

It’s my second book by the author but nevertheless I’m addicted to her words and stories.

Fast paced, not a single moment of pause or break time, this book is full of interesting characters and so many twists and turns that my head was spinning by the end.

I didn’t knew who to believe of what theories to make in my head because with each page turned, another shoe was dropped and everything that I thought I knew changed in a second.

Gripping and twisted, a must thriller for any reader.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Forever Home' by Sue Watson.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sue Watson, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 4th June 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'First Date' which I would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Date Night, Gone Girl and The Woman in the Window'. I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Sue and if this is half as good as 'First Date' it is sure to be a great read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a 39 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the Cornwall, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visited and had holidays in Cornwall so am looking forward to see if I recognise anywhere.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Carly. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Well, well, well Wow!!! What an absolute cracker of a book!!! This book sucked me straight in from beginning to the explosive ending. It was very well written with excellent descriptions which put me straight into the storyline. The blog and the cover suited the book perfectly.

The storyline was fast paced and filled with drama, lies, twists, family, shocks, deceit and suspense. A sadly very believable storyline which kept me on edge throughout. I loved all the twists and turns and throughout it kept me guessing what was going on and who was doing what. I would NEVER have guessed at the ending so a MASSIVE WELL DONE to Sue Watson. I have read many thrillers and it's getting harder and harder for me to be surprised so great job there. I loved the storyline and just loved everything about it. It was all done perfectly!! I loved the fact that everything was tied up and explained at the end and there were no loose strings. An absolutely addictive page turner that kept my heart in my throat on the edge of the seat and absolutely absorbed me.

THE characters were fantastic, solid and completely believable, or are they?? You just have no idea who to trust and wow was I blindsighted! They all had such different and strong personalities and all suited the storyline perfectly. I had completely mixed feelings for Carly although I would definitely say I mainly felt sorry for her. I was screaming at her to tell her story but at the same time when you feel someone has a hold on you it's a different story. Mark was an absolute douche bag and I could not stand him from the moment I met him, I mean seriously??? His attitude!!! Is he for real!!?? Sadly, though that is the reality of some relationships and some people will always twist things to suit them. Erin was a right brat and I couldn't stand her. I loved Jake and Phoebe and the fact that they were so grown up about everything, I felt so sorry for what they had to grow up with though. Ryan? I'm not sure what I thought of him, did he have a hidden agenda? I guess that's the cliff hanger that will keep me guessing. Overall a very realistic, well defined and strong character line up.

Sue I hope your busy writing your next explosive page turner as I cannot wait!!!

Overall a compelling, page turning, mind blowing psychological thriller that will keep you up late at night.

Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Noir Fiction, Psychological Fiction and Domestic Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of C. L Taylor, Carol Wyer, Shalini Boland, 'Gone Girl' and anyone looking for an epic page turner.

391 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

The Forever Home is a book full of secrets, lies and revenge and found it a good read even though I wasn’t that enamoured with the main character.
We meet Carly as she’s getting ready for a party at her beautiful Cornish cliff side home, her husband Mark is late like always but he eventually turns up just before the guests. He is a busy man being a tv celebrity and always has an excuse. Later that evening Carly’s life explodes as she finds out Mark is leaving her for her best friends daughter and she is pregnant. Carly is glad to be free as what you saw and read about this wonderful couple was very far from the truth. We follow Carly’s struggle to keep her home and not let her husband and new family have it.
This was a book I enjoyed but would have liked Carly to have had a bit more determination at the beginning, she did get better but I didn’t war, to her for some reason. The ending was really good though and I didn’t guess it at all so a big thumbs up for that!!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

📚 BOOK REVIEW- The Forever Home By Sue Watson - Publication date - 4th June 2021 📚

Carly & Mark are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, in the house that was Carly’s family home and made famous by the Anderson’s recording all the work Mark done on the house. By the time of their anniversary, Mark is famous everywhere for doing up house on TV. But he give me Carly some news at the party....... something that will change all their lives!

I really liked Carly’s character.
I loved seeing how strong she became through the book and willed her to come out the other side. I hated Mark ..... but then I was supposed to right?!

Really enjoyed this book and I had an inkling about the ending but it kept me guessing!

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This story centres around Carly Anderson, her husband, Mark, and their two children, Phoebe and Jake. They live in a beautiful, cliff top house in Cornwall, which was passed down from Carly’s mum to her. Mark spent time early on in their marriage updating the property, and Carly videoed these upgrades, and ultimately gave Mark a career. They started as early internet influencers, before that all became a thing, and this in turn gave Mark a tv career in updating people’s property on a show using their brand “The Forever Home”. On the surface, everything appears perfect, and Carly is looked at like the luckiest woman in the world to be married to Mark. One evening their celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and Mark is late. Mark is always late for everything. As the evening wears on, we find that Mark has been having an affair, with someone he most definitely shouldn’t have been. And the story gets worse and worse, and darker. It turns out that nothing is perfect, especially if you scratch the surface.

I really enjoy Sue Watson’s books, and this one is no different. The characters are ok in their own way. Mark is horrible, and I hated him all the way through, and Carly came across as very naive and a bit of a door mat, but she was also vulnerable, and doing her best to protect her children at all costs. The plot was really well written, and the setting of the house in Cornwall was amazing, the descriptives used made me want to sit on a Cornish beach and enjoy the sun. You could almost imagine you were feeling the sand in between your toes and the smell of the salt in the sea. A great all round psychological domestic thriller.

This psych thriller was good in many ways, but ultimately didn’t entirely deliver on the build-up. It was still a book that had me turning pages – I read it in one sitting, which is no easy feat these days – and I would definitely recommend it.
I could tell from the beginning (well, and the title) that the house was going to be its own character in the book. It’s a focal point for many reasons.
Carly and Mark have built quite the empire, with their home being a platform for a television show…aptly titled The Forever Home. They renovated the house Carly inherited from her mom and turned it into a business.
Mark is the face of the television show and now travels all over the country to renovate old houses. Well, that’s the cover story anyway.
As Carly finds out at her 25th wedding anniversary party, not everything is as it seems. She’s known for several years what kind of man her husband actually is, but she is fairly blindsided by revelations at the party.
What follows is a harrowing account of what really occurred behind the scenes over the previous 25 years.
The story fully belongs to Carly. It’s from her perspective, with her opinions coloring the entire narrative. This was both impactful and telling. The reader was able to really get into her mind as she justifies both her actions and those of Mark.
And boy, does she spin the justifications.
Ostensibly, it’s because Mark has some big secret on her (that’s not a spoiler – it’s to be assumed that there are good reasons for her to put up with everything). I personally didn’t find that revelation to be as big of a deal as it maybe should have been. I actually expected it to be way worse.
Mark was…interesting. From the descriptions, I kept picturing Paul Hollywood (he’s pretty much the only British Silver Fox I could think of), but I hope my Paul wouldn’t act the way Mark did. He was truly despicable.
There are lies galore, hidden motivations, questionable characters, eerie occurrences, and red herrings…everything that makes a psych thriller great.
I think there is one area where the narrative bogs down and that is in Carly’s justifications and mental narratives. There are long, often repeated sections of Carly explaining why she stayed, why she forgave, why she continued on, why she did just about everything.
It became redundant at times, and I found myself wishing that it was written that way to build to some mind twist. Not so much.
As mentioned, there were a few red herrings, including one character who I was sure was guilty. But then I second-guessed myself because it was so obvious.
The big climax isn’t as big as it could have been and was frankly a long time coming. It seemed like there were a lot of hints around it and the groundwork was laid early but then it all happened quickly. But characters do get their just desserts. So, that was good.
Probably the thing I liked most though was Carly’s consistency. Her mantra from beginning to end was that she did everything for her kids. And that certainly is the case. I appreciate that level of consistent messaging even in the face of everything else.
I would recommend the book, especially if you are a fan of descriptive internal monologues (and an evil Paul Hollywood 😊 ).

Mark & Carly appear to be the perfect couple, bit they are hiding something. This book has an excellent plot, exciting characters & will definitely keep you going. Another great book from this great writer.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Forever Home’ by Sue Watson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Carly and her husband Mark’s home is situated on the edge of a Cornish cliff and is where she lived with her parents until her mother left it to her when she died. Mark renovated their home and the televised programme made him famous, idolised by women far and wide, but it’s during their 25th wedding anniversary party that Mark tells Carly he’s fallen in love with Carly’s best friend’s daughter Erin and wants a divorce. Mark and Erin want to throw Carly out of her home and live in it themselves but Carly doesn’t intend moving out and will do everything in her power to keep it no matter what.

‘The Forever Home’ is one of those novels that’s so addictive you start reading and can’t put it down. The plot is gripping and tells of secrets and lies in a relationship, and is absorbing, dramatic, definitely chilling at times, with authentic characters and shattering revelations. At times I wanted to shake Carly for putting up with Mark’s shenanigans despite the hold he has over her and I was expecting a shocking twist at the end that didn’t materialise, but it didn’t detract from the story which I thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend. This is the first novel I’ve read by Sue Watson and it won’t be the last.
