A dark and ominous tale of a family whose idea of a “forever home” descends into a frightening realm where lies and fear are the leading factors. A fascinating read!

The Forever Home will have you sitting down and reading the book in one sitting because you just have to know what happens.

The Forever Home has it all: secrets, lies, nasty characters, characters that are too trusting.

Carly is reeling from her husband of 25 years has left their marriage on the eve of their 25th anniversary.

Now she is fighting for all she holds sacred: her home, her kids, her reputation.

The ending was perfect; I thought I knew what would and did happen .

I was wrong again.

Sue Watson always writes an edge of your seat thriller that keep you turning the pages and The Forever Home is no exception.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an gripping read

Carly had thought they'd always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they'd taken on as a wreck, that Mark has re-designed and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they had promised to keep each others secrets - until now. Because Mark has fallen in love with someone he definitely shouldn't have. And suddenly their family home doesn't feel so much of a safe haven. Carly thinks forever should mean forever: it's her home and she'll stay there. But threats start to arrive at her door.

At their silver wedding anniversary, Carly finds out Mark has been having an affair with her best friends daughter. He's been having affairs most of their married life but he's gone too far this time. The book starts off with a lot of backstory which sets out how Mark and Carly got where they are at.

I liked Carly, she's a strong character but i couldn't take to Mark at all, or his girlfriend Erin. The story os filled with twists, lies, suspicions and the pace is fast. I'm finding it hard trying not to reveal anything. so I'm just going to say - get yourself a copy of this book, you won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #SueWatson for my ARC of #TheForeverHome in exchange for an honest review.

Carly and Mark are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with a big party at their seaside house. Mark is the face of their reality tv home makeover show and they appear to have a perfect marriage but that is all for show and things are about to come to blows.

3.5 stars.

While I mostly liked this book, I felt like it was a little too long. I was engaged initially but then got a little bored around the middle. I felt like it got a little repetitive at that point but I did like the ending. I have read several from this author and will likely read her next.

This domestic psychological thriller follows Carly as she navigates her husband of 25 years, Mark, leaving her for a much younger woman. Mark is the face on a very successful home renovation and design show and Carly always supported him from behind the camera. Mark got his start when he and Carly moved into their 'forever home' - a cliff side house Carly's mother left to her. Now that their marriage is dissolving, Carly makes it clear that she will keep the house but when threats start to arrive it seems like someone doesn't want Carly staying there. Is it Mark's new girlfriend? Is it a fan of the TV show? Is it the handsome contractor 12 years her junior that is working at the house every day?

The character work in this story was really great. We open on Carly and Mark's 25th anniversary party which quickly allows us to see into their current state as well as some flashbacks to how they were over the past 25 years of marriage. The party also acts as an easy way to introduce us to other characters in their close circle such as their kids, Carly's best friend, and Mark's co-host. None of this felt contrived or like we were just getting a big list of people to try and remember - it was very natural and each person was introduced at just the right pace that I didn't have trouble remembering who was who. As the story progresses, we see these relationships evolve and secrets get revealed. I really found even the side characters to be pretty well fleshed out. I think Watson did a really great job at really honing in and telling the reader just enough details about what each character wants or where their loyalties lie in order to ground that character in the reader's mind. I also liked how there were conflicting motives for many of the characters so we weren't entirely sure who was a friend to Carly and who maybe was trying to get something out of her. Carly herself was a very dynamic character who was great to follow around as she navigated through this whole situation. I could really emphasize with her and her situation and while I didn't agree with all her decisions, overall I was rooting for her to 'win' the whole time which I think is key for these domestic thrillers.

I thought the twists and reveals were really well done and well situated which kept the story moving along at a nice clip. There was just enough foreshadowing before each reveal that the tension and anticipation was steadily growing as I read. I prefer to have breadcrumbs or foreshadowing to the twists in thrillers so that even if I don't catch on right away, once the reveal is done I can look back and see what I missed. I'm not a huge fan of the sudden reveal that comes out of nowhere (but I know some readers are). I think there was a good mix of big and little reveals which I liked. I think sometimes thrillers get into a pattern where each reveal needs to be bigger and more shocking than the last and that can build up the tension really quickly but often can overflow into the side of unbelievable or over-the-top. In this case, I think the smaller reveals proved to be more impactful because they were the most constant reminder of something being wrong. I do think the full extent of each reveal isn't fully explored every time, but the smaller twists really kept the overall tension level raised and then the larger reveals came in to add onto that base tension level.

I wish the psychological thriller elements would have been a little stronger. This really felt to me more like a straight up domestic thriller. For every strange happening or threatening package, it seemed like Carly was sure it was Mark/his girlfriend so she never really seemed scared or worried. It almost seemed like these incidents were more an inconvenience than an actual threat. I think Carly being so sure about the culprits (despite not having any actual evidence) lessened the tension in the story. There were times where she thought it could be someone else but most of the time she was pretty sure it was Mark's new girlfriend. There were a few early scares that I really liked but didn't really seem to go anywhere. For example, at one point early on, Carly sees someone outside her house at night and then sees two hands press onto the window. The tension in that scene was great but it was pretty much forgotten about for the rest of the book. At first, I thought maybe that was to plant the seed that Carly might be an unreliable narrator but everything else was so concrete that it ended up being a scene that just didn't carry its weight in the story. In psychological thrillers, I'm really looking for more questions than answers. I want scenes like "I've never told anyone about that, how'd this person know?" or "I changed all the locks, how'd they get in the house?" or even "I think someone is moving stuff around in my house but maybe I just misplaced that very important thing and forgot where I put it". In this book, instead, we get a list of reasons why it was X, Y, or Z person every time something happened which just isn't what I prefer to have in my psychological thrillers.

Immediately after finishing, I wasn't sure how I felt about the ending. Upon reflection, however, I've come to the conclusion that I really liked it and I think it fit the overall narrative well. I did find the ending twist to be the one that I needed to suspend my disbelief the most for which was a little strange. I thought the overall twist was good, but the little details that we got left me with a lot of questions (that I can't go into detail because of spoilers) mostly revolving around how could anyone else not notice what happened. The ending wrapped up most of the plot threads nicely and we got all the answers we were looking for from the main story line which is always nice. I don't need my thrillers to wrap everything up in a tidy bow, but I do like having the main questions of the plot answered. I really liked how the book ended on a mostly cheery note but there was a bit of a sinister undertone in regards to one character that didn't get completely tied up. Since everything else was tied up nicely, this one character felt sort of like a loose end that stood out. I would have liked maybe a bit more of an open-ended sort of ending with some of the lesser plot threads left not quite so tidy. I really liked how the ending mirrored the beginning, in a way, and this gave me both a sense of completion and dread that was a really interesting note to end the book on.

Overall, I really liked this character-driven thriller but found it to be much more domestic than psychological. I thought the reveals were well paced and the ending worked well overall. I did feel like some of the psychological elements could have been stronger and there were a few plot threads that got dropped prematurely but overall this was a really solid read.

Sue Watson is fast becoming one of my go to authors. I have read one previous book by her, which I enjoyed, and this one was even better. Firstly I loved the setting of this book and the characters had me hooked. I read it in two sittings as I found it highly addictive and could not put it down!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

I dont actually even know where to begin with this review.

That house up on the cliffs in Cornwall has a rollercoaster with a huge collection of twists and turns to get you out the door!

This is only the second book I have read by Sue Watson, and I just know I will savour the rest of the back catalogue. What I have loved is that Sue has perfected the art of pace in her books. They begin with alot of information and back story, but this is where you need to pay attention.

Once you've got through all of this, the chapters get shorter and filled with tension. To the extent that I had to stop reading in the dark! I thought doors were opening. But just when your heart is racing and you don't think you can cope with more, the slower chapters come in to help you catch your breath.

It is an art that I have found rare, so will treasure this within Sue's books.

This book is filled to the spine with knockbacks on your theories, you can't help come up with, and absolute jaw dropping shockers.

One of the easiest 5 stars I've given, but the hardest review to write in a while.

Best written thriller I’ve read in a long time! Couldn’t put this book down..I was desperate to find out the secrets being kept. So many twists and turns throughout this book! Once you think you know what’s about to happen, there’s another dramatic turn that pulls you back in to question you’re thinking. The Forever Home is an absolute must read!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this advanced copy to read!

This was a thrilling read full of suspense, twists, turns and a few secrets thrown in to keep the reader guessing throughout.

Carly and Mark and the perfect couple, living in a beautiful clifftop Cornish house that’s been lovingly restored and treasured by them. Mark has forged a career out of home improvements and is the presenter of a popular TV show on the subject. The original idea behind the show was Carly’s with much of the scripting written by her with Mark taking centre stage in front of the camera, and arrangement which suited Carly. This seemingly perfect life comes crashing down when Carly discovers Mark is having an affair. What follows is a twisted tale of secrets, betrayal, and revenge.

I found this book impossible to put down, with an ending that I didn’t see coming.

Highly recommend this title.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the review copy.

Sue Watson is one of the few authors that writes so well I actually feel anger and sympathy for the characters within the book and this means I just cannot put the book down!! Full of twists I felt myself unable to stop reading.

The story follows the the seemingly perfect couple Carly and Mark who have been made famous due to a TV programme about their beautiful Cornish house. Despite the fame and fancy parties Mark has fallen in love with someone he shouldn’t have.

The book explores the aftermath of this devastating affair coming out in the open which consists of lies, suspicion and twists.
Throughout the whole book I was rooting for Carly, as I mentioned above Sue Watson’s writing style really makes me feel attached to the characters who’s perspective the book is written in and I feel angry when things don’t seem to go there way.

100% recommend this book if you want a face paced, read in one sitting thriller that keeps you guessing right until the very end.

Thank you so much to Bookouture and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book before it is published next month on the 4th of June.

"The Forever Home" by Sue Watson is a Psycho-Thriller with a perfect ending!

A gorgeous cliff-side home overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Cornwall. It's where Carly grew-up but it's an absolute wreck when her mother gifts it to her as a wedding present. To Carly it's her forever home. A living, breathing thing to be nurtured and, at the time, badly in need of being brought back to life.

Carly's architect husband Mark took on the project. The redesign and reconstruction of their home was something Mark saw as a useful transformation, an over-the-top attempt to be noticed. To Mark it would be his business card, a tool to use to secure future work. But, mostly it was about being noticed!

Carly filmed the renovation as Mark talked to her through the process. She would download the video to social media sites and they quickly gained followers. She tagged where DIY supplies were purchased which generated support from companies for future costs of supplies to keep the project going.

What started as a home remodel project eventually turned into a popular TV home improvement show watched by millions. Now a US streaming service is interested in 'Forever Home' and a trip to America seems to be in Carly's and Mark's future.

It all feels so perfect! Like a dream come true! Handsome, charismatic Mark and beautiful, supportive Carly in a perfect marriage and living in their gorgeous forever home where it all began!

It is also in their forever home where, on the night of their 25th Wedding Anniversary party, it all comes crashing down! Maybe perfect isn't forever....

This story is told in the first person voice of protagonist, Carly. She leads the reader on an emotional narrative about her marriage, her children and her forever home, the only home she's lived in. Through this narration the backstories have depth and the character development is strong. Carly, without a doubt, is my favorite character and I admire her unfiltered displays of strength and courage!

I enjoy reading a book with shorter chapters and this one has that. The pace of this story was just right and sprinkled with lots of teasers to keep me reading. The author artfully had me guessing about a couple of the characters motives through to the end. The final twist was unexpected and I loved it! The ending was perfection!

I highly recommend this book to all who love Psycho-Thrillers or just a well-constructed story. I know I will definitely read this author again!

'The Forever Home' is due to publish on 6/4/21!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for an ARC of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a tough review to write. I liked the writing and the plot for this book. It was just too juicy to not, it was like America's sweethearts, Chip and Joanna, gone awry. But it was a lot of words for very little action. Not much happened, and about midway, I fell off liking the characters. It became very tedious to read, which is sad, because I am a fan of the author. The ending wasn't so bad.

This is the first Sue Watson novel I have read but what an introduction to this author.

Carly and Mark are celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary in what looks to be a blissful, glamorous marriage. However, for Carly her life comes crashing down and she is left newly single while Mark moves onto a new relationship.

Mark and Carly's marriage was not what it appeared in the glossy magazines and on screen. Full of dark secrets Carly should be celebrating getting rid of Mark, but instead she is paranoid and uncertain who to trust.

I had to get this book finished to find out what was going on. For me the ending was a bit quick but after setting the slow burn but my goodness what a novel.

Thanks NetGalley, my favourite publisher Bookouture and Sue Watson for an ARC to review.
This is my second book by Sue Watson, I loved this more than First Date.
As much as I hated Hannah in First Date, seems like Sue Watson knows how to ignite the urge in the reader to want to kill one ( or maybe two) of her main characters.
When Mark drops the bomb of his affair on their 25th wedding anniversary celebration, Carly falls apart and only has her Forever Home as a consolation.
Whom can she trust after this huge betrayal, can we even trust Carly with the secret that keeps her tethered to Mark for years?
An engaging slow burner thriller set in an amazing beach house you'd want to spend your life in on that sofa facing the sea( maybe minus the pyscho girlfriend)

This is my first read by Sue Watson, I did think this book was a slow burner, and I wanted more to happen. It was still a good thriller and it kept wanting me to read to find out why and what? But I feel like it was missing a big ‘wow’.

Carly and Mark are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, they are a couple who has it all, a forever home, 2 children and a hit reality tv show. However that is obviously not enough for Mark and on the night of their anniversary celebrations, Carly discovers Mark is having an affair with Erin, who is also pregnant with their baby. With family secrets at the risk of being disclosed, you can not trust anyone.

For me the ending was too predictable but yet I still wanted to read to find out what was going to happen.

Wow! Sue Watson did what readers of every psychological thriller wants... she created a story that seemed predictable - AT FIRST! But...as every veteran reader of thriller books knows...trust no one and expect the unexpected. Sue Watson delivered big time. She created a memorable cast of characters that readers will instantly bond with, especially Carly. She is such a fabulous main character! I found myself fist bumping the air several times as I rooted for her. I highlighted so many Carly-isms on my kindle and plan to write them in my book journal. If you are looking for a great edge-of-your-seat thriller jam packed with surprising plot twists... this is your book. Definitely a great book to start off your summer 2021 list! Undercurrents Ripple..
On the surface everything seems just perfect. Underneath undercurrents ripple. Compelling, easy reading psychological suspense. A credible cast and storyline with twists and turns aplenty. An engrossing tale.
