This opening scene in this book was enough to hook me! Nicci, the main character, seems completely put together on the outside. Her life seems like one many women are envious of. Perfect son, loving husband, beautiful house...BUT as any reader of a good psychological thriller knows...NOTHING is ever the way it seems. EVER. Haunted by her troubled past and the shady characters that were once a part of it, Nicci tries her best to hide who she used to be. Nice try Nicci... not a chance. Chapter 28... OMG. Wasn't expecting that twist and the many tornado type twists that follow. I am a huge fan of Sam Hepburn and this book definitely seals that deal. Wow... if you are looking for a heart pounding read jam packed with a twisted plot and crazy characters.... this is it! 5 stars!
What a PHENOMENAL book!!!!! This is a true psychological read. I was so anxiety ridden from 50% on until the end. The characters were full of lies, you never knew what was going to happen next. Sooooo many twists and turns. A real good put your feet up with a glass of wine and lose yourself for a few hours type of book. Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of this fabulous book.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
All she wants is to be safe and provide a good life for her son. She has taken a lot of steps to ensure this happens.
However, someone out there is letting her know, they know her secret. At first, she thinks there are minor things, but then they start adding up. What will Nicci do to keep her son safe?
This book was a great read. I had a hard time putting it down once I got into it, I had to know what secret was next.
Nicci has a good life after a hard childhood. She is married and has a wonderful son. However her past won't let her go.
Nick was brought up in foster care and now volunteers to help kids that are leaving foster care. The story hints at the very beginning that her marriage is not as good as it seems. As we learn more about Nick and her painful past, we learn she is a fighter. She'll do whatever she has to in order to protect her son. I could not believe how many twists there was! It kept me guessing and I loved it!
4.5- Wow! That was quite the page-turner I didn't expect. Another ARC from netgalley and I loved this gripping new novel from Sam Hepburn.
A good mother is about Nicola, a young woman who was brought up in foster care and who was forced to face the adult world without help or support. Just when it feels her life's turning around, married the perfect husband, built the perfect home her past comes to haunt her. How far will a mother go to protect her son??
A fast-paced psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns and a nice climax to finish. It starts off a bit slow the first quarter of the book but picks up a good pace till the very end. Definitely worth a read especially on a rainy day during the lockdown :)
When are you considered being a good mother? It is because you give them everything money can buy but leave them hanging on the emotional side? Or is being poor, only being able to give them the basics, but love them with all your heart and show it?
Does being a good mother only applies to caring for your own children or can you love someone else’s so much you consider them your own?
Is being a good mother trying to turn your child into someone he isn’t or is it about letting them be their own person with their own strengths and weaknesses?
Are you a good mother when you only accept the child when you can use them to your own advantages or is it about putting your child’s needs before your own and fight for them with everything you have in you?
When you had an unhappy childhood, are you doomed to turn to crimes in order to stay alive? Sometimes unfortunately the answer is yes. You are vulnerable and thus an easy victim and when nobody takes notice, you are indeed doomed. Don’t forget there are some people who care and want to help you, but you have to let them. Be careful though, they might not do it for the right reasons, but do it because they have their own agenda…
The main character is Nicola. The author takes us on a trip through her life. We see pieces of the past to fill in the blanks in the present.
I loved this story. In my opinion the 5 stars are well deserved.
Thank you, Sam Hepburn and Bookouture
An excellent, well written book which I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters were interesting with plenty of back stories and I can definitely recommend this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
I hesitated a bit before reading this book. Not because of the author, Sam Hepburn is absolutely brilliant, I that's the main reason I read this book. I have a hard time enjoying books about overprotective mothers. I enjoy reading about missing persons when the perspective is anyone else than the mother's.
I did not regret reading this book. Due to the brilliance of the author I didn't expect that either. However, the subject will simply never be one for me. This is however an excellent read for this specific subgenre. A Good Mother has many unexpected twists and turns.
This is one of those books you can't but dislike every adult in the book. Every man for himself. Everyone is selfish, hiding things from others, and trying to keep up appearances. This naturally means that the one suffering, is the child. Sadly, I could by this as a true story. Luckily it is fiction.
It is well written, a fairly quick and easy read. It left me feeling cold. Not because of the writing, but because of the utterly disgusting people in it. Sam Hepburn never disappoints and I can recommend this book to everyone who enjoys intense, psychological books, with many twists, and people with dark secrets.
This was more of a slow burn to me! But it didn't alter my attention or interest in A Good Mother!
This book was great! Intense, Crazy! Thanks you Bookouture NG and author for this erc!
Amazing work with this book.
A slow boiler to start but as the story continues, the tension increases and Nicci’s seemingly perfect life crumbles as after a few small incidents, her past comes back to haunt her. It’s a gripping story that kept me gripped and one that I found difficult to leave down.

Hepburn never disappoints her readers.
All she ever wanted to keep her child safe. What a mother would do if her child go missing under her nose?
The perfect husband, built the perfect home. I’ve tried to give Finn the life I never had.
Everything was going so well. Until now.
It’s just small things at first – a punctured tyre, an open gate that I'm sure I locked. But then I see the photograph of two young girls, and a night I’ve tried to forget.
I know I have to stop pretending that nothing is happening. I can’t escape the truth.
I loved Finn's character.
Hepburn's narration is buttery smooth. She never disappoints.
I'm doing more promotion on its release date among my fellow Authors Bloggers Family Friends and followers.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advanced copy of this psychological thriller.
Oh my god this book kept me on the edge of my seat to the last page. The main character is so relatable that you’ll just get swept up in this novel. I highly recommend this.
