This was was well written and very easy to follow, which made for a great page turner! It had plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end which is sometimes hard to do, as many of these books are easier to figure out. It is a compelling choice for someone who wants a fast paced but interesting story that has that suspense
Unputdownable
Edge of your seat page turner. You will read it in one sitting it is literally unputdownable. All the twists and turns were amazing. Recommended for fans of I know what you did last Summer.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!
I thought it was well written, fast paced and kept my attention. I would definitely be interested in reading an additional books by this author.
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
This was another really great mystery! I really enjoy the stories that Natalie D. Richards tells, they're so intriguing, and I want to know all of what is going on, and this was just as good! It was fast paced, and I had to know what was going on!
Last year, Cleo's boyfriend died on a trip, right after her birthday. It's now a year later, and she's sent on this scavenger hunt of clues, each one leading to the next. But there's something sinister about it all, from how it was left in her bathroom-while she was in the shower, and the way the notes are pretty threatening.
Oh, and how all of these locations that the clues are leading to, are places that are significant to her and the boyfriend who died. Which as the book progresses, we find out more about their relationship, like the fact that he was abusive. And what happened that night.
That ending though? That was so unexpected, and devastating, to find out who was behind it all! But it really worked! I just wish we could've had a bit more time of the aftermath, it was so short, and I would've liked a bit more!
This was a really great read, and I can't wait to read more by Natalie D. Richards!
This one was a bit of a let down. I guess I was expecting more from this story than I got. I'm still a fan of the author and her unique premises.
I've liked Natalie's other books but i just didn't enjoy this one as much as her others. It just didn't hold my attention as well.
Seven Dirty Secrets by Natalie D. Richards is the first YA book in a very long time to really grab and hold my attention. From the get-go, this scavenger hunt/cat and mouse game that is going on with this group of teenage friends is intriguing. The complicated dynamic between all of the characters also makes it interesting and helps the story not be so cut and dry.
While the book was good, it loses points for lack of originality. It has 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' vibes all over it.
Seven Dirty Secrets is a phenomenal thriller from start to finish. Filled to the brim with twists and a captivating plot, this one is sure to keep readers hooked. The characters are well-developed. The story is incredibly fast-paced. This is one not to be missed! Highly recommended! Be sure to check out Seven Dirty Secrets asap.
It's been almost a year since an ill-fated trip where 7 left and only 6 came back. It's been almost a year to the day and it's Cleo's birthday. She's up and getting ready and showering - when she comes out from the shower there's a new package sitting on her bathroom counter.
There's only a handful of people who have access to the house and know it's her birthday. After she texts and asks them all, no one admits to it so she opens it to find. . .it's a riddle sending her on a treasure hunt - one that feels just slightly ominous. When her best friend, Hope, arrives and they quickly find a second, Cleo is more than just a little unnerved.
I found the mystery fast paced and the read very quick. The tension was well placed, between the hunts but also the ominous sightings and odd songs and phone calls. The twist was easy to guess but I enjoyed the journey to the reveal. I wish the ending had bin just a bit longer, I'd loved just a smidge more closure but it was enough for me to say I definitely enjoyed this one! This is a go-to author for me to know I'll get a quick, well done mystery!
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
Seven Dirty Secrets had been on my TBR for a while and I decided to give it a go! I’ve been in the mood for mysteries and thrillers lately!
Seven Dirty Secrets follows a group a friends almost a year after a tragic accident comes between them all. The main character Cleo begins to get scary phone calls and is led on a timed scavenger hunt with a serious deadline.
This book was mysterious and had a good creep factor. A few things felt a little unbelievable to me and the ending a bit too convenient for my taste but the book did keep me interested and curios to find out what came next and how the scavenger hunt would end. This book would be great for spooky season reading!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review
Seven Dirty Secrets is not a bad book, it's just not the book for me. YA thrillers just don’t do it for me anymore. So I may have to stop reading them entirely. This book just felt too young for me. It is more geared towards a younger reader, and I have aged out of that category.
There is way too much to unpack about this book, but I was severely disappointed in how many plot holes there were. There was way too many right from the start. This entire storyline could have been avoided if they had just told the truth about what happened. That is the most frustrating part, no one did anything wrong.
But I am giving this a neutral rating of 3 stars because I do think this book has an audience. It just most definitely is not me.
Seven friends, seven secrets. How far would you go to protect your sibling? That’s what Cleo needs to figure out when the mysterious scavenger hunt begins. I enjoyed this mystery; started out slow but picked up near the end. I figured out who the “Unknown caller” was about 1/2 way through, but kept reading just to find out if I was correct. Cleo is definitely a fighter; her friends are good at keeping secrets, ones she needed to have come out in the open in order to save herself and her brother. This is one for mystery lovers.
I love a good thriller and I love a scavenger hunt, so this was right up my alley. I thought the premise was interesting, even if it wasn't completely original, and the writing style was great. Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the book.
WOW this book took off from the first page and just kept going. Hard to review without giving a single spoiler. A fast-paced story of friends and trust and lies.
Cleo is turning 18 and gets a message, she has no idea who sent it, but the message will send her on a scavenger hunt.
The scavenger hunt isn't about finding a birthday present but rather about revisiting a past event.
I found myself going back to the beginning poem regularly and pausing to try and figure this one out.
I know seven secrets
One caused the fall
One did nothing
One saw it all
One didn't care
One used their head
One played the Hero
One was left for dead
This one was difficult to set down. It has more turns than a spiral staircase that lead to a "didn't see that coming" conclusion.
Prefect read
I tried to read this for over a month and it really just didn’t keep me interested. The book sounded like it would be very interesting but I personally couldn’t get into it.
This book is based on a familiar thriller formula - something terrible happened and at the one year anniversary mysterious messages start arriving that seem determined to bring those secrets to light. We are presented with a person missing, presumed dead, so the clues suggest that the missing person might not be dead after all. This one was less successful than others I've read. The alternative realities that the characters never consider seemed obvious to me. While the scavenger hunt was decent and well paced, the ending was chaotic and dragged on a bit too long.
Natalie D. Richards is quickly becoming a go-to, must-have young adult author! Her writing style is flawless.
The plot and idea had me hooked from page one. The actual mystery isn’t that hard to figure out and let’s just say I wasn’t really surprised about the reveal. But that wasn’t too bad and didn’t hurt the book much. I still enjoyed everything in between. The atmosphere was capturing and creepy, the characters were fun (even though they kept doing stupid things) and there were deeper and also heavier topics hiding beneath the surface. I totally recommend this book to younger thriller lovers!
The scavenger hunt plot is a great touch as we too are playing along with the characters I thought that the big reveal at the end was predictable. I did like Cleo’s best friend Hope. I recommend this book if you want a YA thriller/mystery that has a perfect mix of suspense and teenage angst. Overall I give it 3.5 stars which have been rounded up because they refuse to provide half star options on Goodreads.
