The book never stopped with the twists, turns, and drama!
This tense, taut thriller will pull you along with it right to the last page.
A creepy, tense and pacy read to get your heart racing. Richards test the characters, and takes the readers on a roller coaster ride that will leave them on the edge of their seats.
Not only does the plot keep you guessing, the characters are interesting and well-drawn and there’s a real sense of menace!

Cleo and her best friend Hope love mysteries, escape rooms and scavenger hunts.
So when a mysterious package containing a criptic clue appears on her 18th birthday, Cleo is convinced that Hope has arranged a scavenger hunt for her a birthday surprise.
But the clues become more and more sinister and contain information that only Declan, Cleo's ex-boyfriend who died on a group rafting trip a year ago could know.
But what Cleo hasn't told anyone is the abuse and violence that she suffered during her relationship with Declan, and just what happened during that last fateful encounter before Declan fell into the river and drowned.
But it turns out that Cleo isn't the only one that has secrets about that trip, and someone is planning to make them pay.
Just who is sending all these clues? Can it really be Declan, out for revenge? Could he have actually survived falling into the river? No body was ever found. Who else could possibly know all their secrets?
This is a story about abusive relationships and a story about revenge. It is a thriller that will keep you on edge until the end.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooksfire for the advance copy to read and review.
"I know seven secrets:
One caused the fall. One did nothing. One saw it all.
One didn’t care. One used their head. One played the hero.
One was left for dead."
How does this make you feel when you read that? I know I had instant chills.
I HAD TO GET MY HANDS ON A COPY!!!
Seven Dirty Secrets, is intense to say the least. I picked this book up around 10pm last night and I was just looking to read a few chapters until my eyes got heavy. My mistake. I ended up concluding the book around 230am. My work day will suffer but it is definitely justified!
I absolutely loved Seven Dirty Secrets! The narration was done with perfection. The character development made you feel like you knew the characters personally. The story line was exquisite and the plot twist???? OH YEAH! Did not see that coming !
Seven Dirty Secrets will top the charts this year in both a YA genre and Thriller genre . If you have not already pre-ordered this book, you need to do so now! You will not be disappointed !
How creepy would it be for while you are in the shower, alone in the house someone leaves a clue for a scavenger hunt in the restroom and you never notice anyone else in the bathroom?
Cleo receives this clue on her 18th birthday, and while she originally thought that it was her best friend Hope leaving the messages she soon comes to the realization that it's something way more sinister than she originally thought. This scavenger hunt has something to do with a deep secret that she tried to leave in the past, a secret where she was on a trip with her friends and her then-boyfriend attacked her and she pushed him off the bridge. His body was never recovered, and now almost a year later she is having a very sinister scavager hunt with clues that has everything to do with their relationship. She has to get to the end of her life and the lives of her close ones are all in danger, the futures that they have all worked so hard for are ALL on the line of her solving this scavenger hunt.
I enjoyed all the twists and turns along with the mystery of the whole ordeal. The love she has for her brother and friends is amazing and her determination to finish this is crazy! I loved it!
If you love creepy twists and turns then this is the book for you! Thank you Netgalley, Sourcebooks Fire and the author for the opportunity to read and review this one!
This was *chef's kiss*
Where to even begin? I loved Cleo and Hope's friendship. The definition of ride or die. I had a strong feeling what direction the book was going from the beginning and I was right. Even though I knew, I was shocked.
My first book by this author and it certainly won’t be my last.
It’s an intriguingly dark YA thriller.
There were plenty of twists to keep me guessing and it was an enjoyable read overall.
Seven Dirty Secrets is the first book I have read by Natalie Richards. The premise drew me in to request this book. I was able to read this book in one sitting as it had many good twists and turns. It was a bit predictable in parts, but this did not distract from the overall storyline. The characters drew me in and kept me reading and wanting to find out the truth.
Seven Dirty Secrets was an overall good read and a good story.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the ARC.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars
Seven Dirty Secrets is a fun, fast-paced YA thriller that is a very reminiscent of a Lois Duncan novel. It centers around Cleo, who receives an ominous gift on her birthday that contains a riddle for a scavenger hunt. She begins to realize the clues are about her ex-boyfriend who drowned on a group rafting trip exactly one year ago. Cleo and her friends have to race against the clock to make sure their secrets never come to light.
This was definitely a one sitting read. It is twisty, entertaining, and intense. I love when a thriller has perfect pacing and never seems to drag. I will definitely be checking out Natalie D. Richards’ backlist after this. Highly recommend if you are a fan of Karen M. McManus and Lois Duncan.
ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Full review to be posted closer to release date.
My blog review is set for October 31.
I am happy to review any book by Sourcebooks Fire. I love your books.
Thank you Sourcebooks Fire for giving me the opportunity of reading this e-book. It was on my list of "must read" and I am appreciative of the fact that I got to read an e-copy.
How much do I like this author? I fell in love with her last book and had high hopes for this one and I was not disappointed.
I think what worked so well, for me, in her last book was the amazing way the author created a feeling of isolation - snow, one stranger not to be trusted, etc.....we experienced the story "live" --that is the reader was in real time along with the characters and experiencing every twist and turn at the same time.
For this book, we are actually starting the read AFTER the event. Again, there is a bit of a feeling of isolation in this one - but hands down, nothing beats snowstorms for isolation. I hope Richards sets all her future books during snowstorms. In this book, the isolation feeling is felt when we read that 7 YA went into the woods and only 6 came out. We learn, ultimately that each person becomes "a dirty secret" because everyone has a role/responsibility in the fact that only 6 people came out.
It is very hard to review this book without giving any spoilers, but suffice it to say that the author was very clever in setting up this fated woods trip intertwining it with the "now". We stay mainly in the present, but we do get a few clues as to what really happened during this trip and how it has affected every member in their present.
Some very stressful/scary moments and a very clever plot that I kept trying to decipher kept me reading, but every time I thought I had it solved, I turned out to be wrong.
Loved the Hope character and she does have a central part in this. Cleo.....I am not sure. At times, I found her to be a little annoying. Another interesting aspect of this book is that the author doesn't even bother to incorporate Connor and Cleo's parents. They are mentioned in passing, but never in a particularly positive way - I liked that, because too often, YA books feature parents that are way too perfect and it does not feel like reality to me.
Overall, I LOVED this book. Richards always has excellent pacing and her main plot idea in this one was genius.
I can't believe I will have to wait to read her next one. I want it NOW!!! please.
3 stars!
Okay, so everything from the cover to the premise drew me into this book. I haven’t read a YA mystery in a while and not a good one in ages so I was really excited for this book. I did enjoy it - don’t get me wrong - but I think I had too high of expectations for this ARC and admittedly, that may be my fault.
What did I like?
- The characters. Cleo was likeable enough but she did come across bland at some points and I found myself rolling my eyes at some of her thought process. However, the author depicted domestic violence really well and especially how Cleo has a victim felt and the haunting she still felt after getting out of the situation.
- The representation was carefully done in terms of domestic violence and Natalie has clearly researched the topic well.
- I liked the clues! The mystery was well done (despite being predictable) and the clues were well thought out and made sense to what they were. I didn’t feel like the characters could randomly solve the clue as if it was the DaVinci Code or something.
I think my biggest issue with this book was the predictability. It doesn’t take much for this to happen for me anymore as I’m such an avid reader of this genre, but this books execution of the predictable plot points were so obvious it would have to take an *idiot* to not notice them.
On the other hand, the ending was left in a way I felt that felt ominous and that was done well.
I also thought some of our side characters were eye rollingly cliche. Such as her best friend and brother. I just can’t. I think I’m over these troupes. However, they weren’t annoying to the extent where I didn’t enjoy the book.
This is decent mystery thriller for YA readers and I would recommend if you want a fast read!

This book had me hooked. I loved how this group of teenagers set on a time limited scavenger hunt to uncover all the clues before time runs out. No one in this group of friends is innocent, they are all guilty of something. Can they uncover all the clues in time? I loved the suspense and mystery around this book. Who planned the scavenger hunt and why?
I found myself guessing and second guessing as I was reading this novel. Who would want to toy with them this much. What was their motive behind it? Would they be able to solve it all before it was too late? I found myself flipping through the pages and I loved this book! A definite must read to add to your tbr!
I absolutely love this book. The characters drew me in but the plot kept me there. It’s an absolutely great thriller.
I’ve read a few of Natalie D Richards’ books before, and I think this one really took the cake. Each one I read, I love more than the next one. I read Seven Dirty Secrets in a single sitting because I just HAD to know what was going to happen next. It was so twisty and I did not see the end coming. Just absolutely wonderful.
After reading and loving Five Perfect Strangers last year, I couldn't get my hands on Seven Dirty Secrets fast enough! Natalie D. Richards knows how to write a young adult suspense read, that is for sure. This book was action packed and very cinematic. I could picture ever scene like it was playing out on the big screen! Richards' writing style flows so well and this was such an easy and fast read. If you're looking for a book to binge in just a couple sittings, this is the one for you. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for my advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review! It gets 4 fast-paced, twisty stars from me.
I Know
One caused the fall.
One did nothing.
One saw it all.
One didn't care.
One used their head.
One played the hero.
One was left for dead.
A young adult mystery filled with twists and turns and a scavenger hunt. This book has lots of misdirection to keep you guessing
A super quick, fast paced, and exciting read! I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. I’ll admit, that I figured out one of the big twists pretty early on, but honestly that didn’t ruin the book at all. In fact, I’m really excited to read other books by this author now.
Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC of this book!!!

I really enjoyed this story! It starts off with a bang and you are hooked for the rest of the book. It is very fast-paced with lots of twists and turns! It was also a very satisfying thriller to read which I really appreciated. It scratched an itch in my brain. I kept coming up with theories and then scrapping them for new ones as I read. Overall an entertaining and exciting read!!
There are heavy 'a good girl's guide to murder' vibes here, so, if you're into that this is a good next read. More importantly however, there is a sub story going on that we have to keep telling because it's something that happens. Normalize talking about this for the sake of every girl who thought she couldn't talk about this, because it's something that happens.
This book is a whirlwind of action based around a scavenger hunt. It will have you hooked from the first chapter. This story follow cleo who lost her boyfriend in a tragic accident. she gets a box for her birthday that sends her on a mysterious scavenger hunt.
I got this off of Netgalley, these opinions are my own. I was super excited when I got this book because I recently discovered Natalie Richards’ books, I read 3 of them in one weekend! This is no different I couldn’t put it down and was up till like midnight cause I had to complete it! Natalie just has a way with mystery that hooks you! I liked the idea of the scavenger hunt mystery, made me thing of Escape Rooms, which I have always wanted to do! I enjoyed Cleo as a protagonist, and Hope and Connor are fun too! This book also has the mystery of the past which intrigues the reader even more because you have to know what happens! There’s also all the little side mysteries as well! And the stuff that Cleo went through is wrenching! Even up until the very end the book keeps throwing mysteries at the reader! I’m excited to get this when it comes out!
