This is a wonderful, heart melting story. The h is kind woman who is determined to right the wrong that her family suffered. The H is caring and devoted to his family. And Kitty was very entertaining.
Part of the LYON'S DEN: The Black Widow of Whitehall Connected World series. Lord Peter Dermott and Audrey's story is well written with drama, twists, turns and romance. I want to read the rest of the books in this series.
Come and enter the provocative, enticing, and slightly wicked underground world, The Lyon’s Den, where the Regency of London thrive and play …while the ever elusive Black Widow of Whitehall, Mrs. Dove-Lyon, sets about plotting and planning devious schemes which match unlikely Lords and Ladies, leading them towards a happily ever after!
In this installment of the Lyon’s Den interconnected world author Alanna Lucas introduces us to Audrey who is seeking Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s help with a desperately needed invitation to a masquerade ball and Lord Peter Dermott who is urgently seeking a wife. It doesn’t take long before Mrs. Dove-Lyon is introducing Audrey and Peter and the matchmaking takes a life of its own. When Peter meets Audrey, the attraction is instant, but she presents him with a huge dilemma. Her plan to take the statue is daring, and if it fails, his reputation will be ruined. However, if he walks away, he will most likely lose her, and the chance to make her his…
Beyond the MCs relationship status this series continues to lead its readers on a merry chase to uncover who the mysterious Mrs. Dove-Lyon really is and what her past contains. Each author reveals tidbits during their books that adds an extra layer of intrigue to the series. I think it’s very creative and a highly addictive aspect to the series. Will we ever get the full story of our enigmatic matchmaker?
I enjoyed this book and continue to enjoy the series!

Audrey is trying to retrieve stolen art. Peter needs to find a wife quickly before forced to wed a very young cousin just out of the schoolroom. Mrs. Dove-Lyons sees a matchmaking opportunity even though only Peter is looking for a match. Audrey just needs an invitation to a masquerade in order to steal back what was stolen from her family. All of the secrets and intrigue make for a very enjoyable read.
Thank you Alanna Lucas, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
Well technically of course, it wasn’t his fortune. He had stolen it from his wife’s fortune, and her family’s.
His wife and her family were French refugees from the Revolution – not nobility but still they did have some items of worth hey managed to bring with them from France. Most of it was Art – from paintings to sculptures as they were involved in the Art trade.
And this Lyon had really wanted some of this art so he could make money from it, and also so he could add to his collection.
But there was a particular sculpture that the Lyon took that they wanted back. So the tale is how they managed this caper and the various difficulties and pitfalls they encountered, plus a romance of course.
So an Art Heist but not a modern one. Nicely told and fun to read.
He needs to marry post haste, she needs to retrieve two pieces of stolen art.
Peter and Audrey are filled with good intentions and that's a good thing.
Audrey must retrieve a scandalous painting and a statue that was her mother's, both items were stolen from their rightful owners.
Peter must marry in two months or be coerced in to wedding an 18 yo cousin. Peter has two wards, his sister and his niece and would like to choose well when he does marry.
I liked both Peter and Audrey and their clearly well thought out motivations.
I love a good and honest man.
Which makes what Audrey is planning to do all the more intriguing.
A quick, fast paced read with great plotting that was entirely engaging.
Recommend.
I'm a huge fan of Alanna Lucas but this is my first time reading from this series. I enjoyed it immensely. Lucas added her own writing spin on the characters. Such a wonderful historical romance and one I highly recommend!
My Rating: 5 stars
I have really enjoyed reading this series, and each author's tidbits of knowledge about Mrs. Dove-Lyon along the way. Alanna Lucas has given us the largest glimpse into Mrs. Dove-Lyon and her past with this story. Not only does Audrey approach Mrs. Dove-Lyon asking for her help in retrieving a statue that belonged to Audrey's Mother, but Mrs. Dove-Lyon asks Audrey to also retrieve a personal item for her.
The gentleman Mrs. Dove-Lyon picks to help Audrey in her quest, Lord Peter Dermott, also just happens to be looking for a wife.
I really enjoyed this story.
When it comes to stealing a Lyon's fortune, it takes two to right a wrong.
Visitors to the Lyon’s Den, run by the mysterious Mrs. Dove-Lyon, usually wish to find a spouse, but Audrey has quite another goal in mind. She needs help to secure an invitation to Lyon’s masquerade, the annual event hosted by her once-stepfather, Vincent Lyon, so that she may retrieve the statue he stole from her late mother.
Mrs. Dove-Lyon knows just the person to take Audrey to the ball, a shrewd matchmaker that she is, also sees an opportunity to help Lord Peter Dermott, who has been recommended to her as being in urgent need of a wife.
When Peter meets Audrey, the attraction is instant, but she presents him with a huge dilemma. Her plan to take the statue is daring, and if it fails, his reputation will be ruined.

It's a fast-paced book. The characters are also pretty decent. I can definitely read and finish this in one sitting. I haven't read the other books within the series. Anyway, thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the eARC!

Nice but quite a quick story. Audrey wants to get back her inheritance. She approached Bessie Dove-Lyon as she neds an invitation to a masquerade. Bessie also wants to match make so selects Lord Peter as the man to whom Audrey will get help. There's a nice set of characters that help, including Audrey's uncle, Peter's sister and niece and a few of his friends. Peter is not keen on the morallity of the task he's been set but wants to help Audrey. The romance and passion comes towards the end.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
How to Steal a Lyon's Fortune by Alanna Lucas is an entertaining tome about a young woman righting a wrong from the past and a young man finding love. Audrey had come to the Lyon's Den to see if the Black Widow: Bessie Dove-Lyon, could find her a man with an invitation to Vincent Lyon's once-a-decade masquerade ball. She would not be attending for the normal reason: debauchery, but rather to steal a statue that her stepfather had stolen from her ailing mother, as well as a small painting that could potentially ruin the Widow. She was willing to pay for that assistance. Peter needed a wife. If he couldn't find one, he would be forced to wed his insipid cousin and that he would not do. Mrs. Dove-Lyon had requested his presence and so her appeared. The only stipulation was that he was not to tell the young woman about becoming his wife. That was a secret, for now.
This was a light-hearted novel, despite the danger the pair were putting themselves in. They fit well together. His sisters loved Audrey and Audrey's uncle, her only relative, had taken to Peter. They all believed they would be successful in their quest to re-home the items they were looking for. This was a little different than others of the Lyon's Den Connected World in that they were working together to obtain something that had been removed from its rightful home by criminal means. That plot is a new one. Audrey was indomitable. She could not and would not be stopped. Peter was right there with her. He admired and respected her and eventually, loved her. It was a fun read, amusing and easy to follow. The pacing was good. It read quickly. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of How to Steal Lyon's Fortune by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #Howtostealalyonsfortune
A Daring Heist
Audrey wants to get back her family’s fortune, so she makes a bargain with the notorious Mrs. Dove-Lyon. She must find help to go to a masquerade, where she will steal a statue that once belonged to her family. Mrs. Dove-Lyon knows just the right man to get her to the party.
Peter is in need of a wife. He must find a woman of his choosing, or he will have to marry a woman he does not want. Mrs. Dove-Lyon introduces him to Audrey. He must get her to the masquerade, and the price will be marriage. However, Audrey does not know the full story.
Their story starts with a bargain, but how will it end? Will they succeed in stealing the statue? Will Peter convince Audrey that he is the right man for her? Could a business arrangement turn into love? I enjoyed this charming short read.
You never know what will happen with a visit to the Lyon's Den to see Mrs Dove-Lyon. She always seems to have a certain, shall I say, knack for matchmaking that is amazing. In this case, she has two people who need different help, one for a wife and the other to retrieve a piece of art.
What is most interesting is we learn a tidbit about Mrs Dove-Lyon, which I know, all of us who have read this series, have been intrigued! Sorry, I digress, but so exciting! Audrey has gone to see her to get her help in getting her an invite to her awful Stepfather's masquerade ball
Peter had been summoned to the Lyon's Den and he had no idea what to expect. Yes he was in need of a wife and no he did not want to wed the one picked out for him. She quickly advised him she had a match for him and he would need to take her to the Lyon's masquerade and help her retrieve something.
A plan is struck and an attraction seals their fate. But what will happen? Loved this story and I know you will too!
What’s a matchmaker like Mrs. Dove-Lyon, of the famous Lyon’s Den to do with Audrey one of her new clients who doesn’t want a marriage, but a invitation to an exclusive Masquerade Ball. The ball is held by none other than the Audreys own stepfather. She needs to retrieve some personal items he stole from her mother as she was dying.
Lord Peter Dermott is on the hunt for a wife, but he has not actively sought one. As a neighbor of Vincent Lyon he always receives an invitation to the masquerade, but rarely attends. However, at the urging of the matchmaker and the new deal with Audrey Walters this was all going to change.
This is a lighthearted read and humorous at times. Of all the Lyon’s Den Series Books thus far this one was not my favorite, but there were more interesting twists and surprises that I enjoyed about the matchmaking service.
I would still recommend this book.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
Audrey Ruston comes to the Lyon’s Den, but not looking for a husband. She asks that Mrs. Dove-Lyon find someone with an invitation to her stepfather’s once-a-decade masquerade. Attending the party will allow her to find and “retrieve” a valuable statue that belonged to her mother and should have come to her, and another item of great importance to Mrs. Dove-Lyon. Our favorite matchmaker summons Lord Peter Dermott, who has an invitation to the masquerade. Peter needs to find a wife in the next two months in order to avoid marriage to his cousin. Of course, she wants him to help Audrey, but she also wants to help him find the right wife. Peter and Audrey? That’s her plan, but don’t tell Audrey.
Peter and Audrey are a wonderful pair. Peter is handsome, kind, caring, and responsible. He is raising his sister and niece. Audrey is sweet, kind, and beautiful, inside and out. She has a very special reason for wanting the statue back. The story is short and entertaining. There is a bit of drama and mystery, some fun, and romance. This is a nice addition to the Lyon’s Den stories. I enjoyed it. A good read.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Lord Peter Dermott is looking for a wife, probably one he has a few things in common with to have an enjoyable marriage or he’ll be pushed to marry a distant cousin. Mrs. Bessie Lyons calls him to help Mrs. Audrey Walters to a masquerade ball so she can steal a family heirloom. I love how Peter and Audrey are very close families, they do anything to keep them safe. I think you’ll enjoy this story as Peter and Audrey as attempt to steal back a piece of artifact from her step-father who stole the piece, they bond over loss as they begin to see there’s more the mystery as they get to know one another. Mrs. Bessie Lyon is famous for her matchmaking skills has she just found him the perfect match? I voluntarily read and reviewed this excellent book filled romance.
Audrey needs help to retrieve something stolen from her family. There is an old friend of her mother's who has a reason to help.
Lord Peter Dermott has spent the last few years in mourning for lost family members. Now it's time to start really living again.
This is a very amusing historical romance. Our characters are involved in a little mischief. All for a good cause.
Good fun.

She needs help to secure an invitation to her step father, Vincent Lyon’s masquerade, so that she may retrieve the statue he stole from her late mother also a risqué painting of Mrs Dove-Lyon. The Black widow knows just the person to take Audrey to the ball, a shrewd matchmaker that she is, also sees an opportunity to help Lord Peter Dermott, who has been recommended to her as being in urgent need of a wife, he needs to marry within months or marry his distant relative. When Peter meets Audrey, the attraction is instant, but she presents him with a huge dilemma. Her plan to take the statue is daring, and if it fails, their reputations will be ruined.
A well written book that flowed well & I read it in two sittings. I really liked both Peter & Audrey whose chemistry was apparent. This was a good mix of romance, action & moving forward. Leona & kitty were delightful & added another dimension. I also liked that more of Mrs Dove-Lyons past was revealed as was her face. A charming romance which was entertaining & I thoroughlt enjoyed it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I enjoyed this excellent writing. The characters were so real that I could relate with them easily. . It was an exhilarating read. I love the ending. Every page was turned with the anticipation of what was next.
A series of books with a common theme but by different authors have had me intrigued throughout. Different from the other books in this series, the plot of this novel involves the retrieval of artworks and justice carried out. Mrs Dove-Lyon, with her unerring eye, pairs Audrey with Lord Peter Dermott, to carry out her quest. With a charming uncle in tow, they leave town to attend the infamous house party. This romance has adventure and some suspense as Peter and Audrey carry out their mission. However, I really do think Mrs Dove-Lyon was taking a chance by asking for a fee when she was also getting something out of the deal! The novel, whilst short, is intriguing and had my full attention. It is well written and a standalone, coming to a charming and romantic conclusion. I received a copy of this novella from Drageonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
