Audrey's step-father, Vincent Lyon has stolen a statue from Audrey's mother. She has asked Mrs Dove-Lyon to find her someone going to the masquerade ball at Lyon's house. Peter needs a wife to help him take care of his sister and niece. He has an invitation to the ball. Can they help each other? One of the request of Peter was not to tell Audrey his request so they can find themselves in a love match. This is a sweet story of how the two families find love for each other and their families.
Retrieving a statue that belonged to her dead mother and stolen by her stepfather, Audrey needs the help of Mrs. Dove-Lyon. An invitation to a masquerade at her stepfather's home in the country will give her the opportunity to "steal" it back. Summoned by Mrs. Dove-Lyon, Lord Peter Dermot is offered the opportunity to aid a lady and acquire a wife. After meeting Audrey the heist is on. Nothing like revenge on a heartless scoundrel who cares for nothing but his own selfish pleasure. Mrs. Dove-Lyon has made another match!
An entertaining escapade of love at first sight. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Absolutely love the Lyon's Den series!!! It can be read by itself, because each book is about a different person and they are only loosely connected to each other, there are a few different authors writing these books but they flow so fluidly you wouldn't notice reading them. They are pretty quick books that I read in one or two sittings.
Audrey is trying to right a wrong, by retrieving a statue that her "step-father" stole from her mom. He was a friend of her dad's and took advantage of her mom after his death; then abused her until she passed from an illness with no fight left in her. The only issue is Audrey needs an invitation to a masquerade that is only hosted every 10 years. She goes to the Lyon Den for help and Mrs. Dove-Lyon uses this as a way to help her find a match; secretly of course. Lord Peter Dermott has an invitation and is in need of a wife in under 2 months or he will be forced to marry a family friend. Attraction is immediate, but is fought by both, each thinking the other couldn't possibly be interested. Will they be able to retrieve the statue, and find their happily ever after in the end? While this is a quick book it has everything you need and all ends are wrapped up nicely.
How to Steal A Lyon's Fortune is the first book by Alanna Lucas that I have read and I was impressed. This is a quick read but it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Of course we have the Dove-Lyon connection in this book, but the focus of the book is the "retrieval" of a statue. Audrey wants the statue that her stepfather took from her mother so she asks Mrs. Dove-Lyon to find her someone with an invitation to the once decade masquerade. That is where Peter comes in. He is handsome, honorable, single, raising his sister and niece. This is an impossible plan but he will go along because he doesn't want to marry his cousin. Audrey and Peter make a great team along with the adorable children. There is an air of expectation through out the whole book that will leave you holding your breath in anticipation. I can't wait to read more works by this author.
I would like to thank Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
This is the first time reading a book by Alanna Lucas, and it was adorable, its really sweet, and EASY. It seemed so easy that they succeeded on stealing the statue and the painting. A beautiful girl, Audrey wants to retrieve what is her's a statue from her mother's art collection she brought when she escaped from France. Stolen by her step father, who used and discarded her mother as if well you know what I mean. She comes to the Lyon's Den to ask for the services, oddly enough the services she asks for isn't match making what is provided along with many other strange services. She wants an invite to a ball held every ten years to retrieve the stolen statue and donate the income she gets to a charity that helps less fortunate women, with horrible husbands, or widows etc.
The matchmaker a lady of several different services, provides Audrey with someone who will help her escort her to the masquerade ball, they escape with the statue, he proposes they live happily ever after.
Its alright book nothing wow, a bit of excitement here and there, but not something I would purchase. If you have nothing else to read give it a go its a feel good book but that's about it, it doesn't leave any lasting impressions or anything.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and all of the opinions of this book are my own.
Fast paced short story. Audrey is determined to steal the fortune of her evil stepfather, but she needs help...in walks Peter! This story was well written and you get to know the heart of our heroes right away. The villain is truly a bad person, so it's easy to cheer for Peter and Audrey! There are a few interesting secondary characters too. This is a fast read, but quite fun!
Another excellent read in this series. Audrey has vowed and waited 10 years to get back what belongs to her from her step-father who stole from her mother when she was very ill. With the help of Peter they are going to one of those risque masquerade balls to get the statue back from Vincent Lyon, her step father. Lots of intrigue, adventure and true love follow. HEA.
To reclaim a stolen statue from the step-father who had abandoned her mother when she was ill, Audrey must find someone with an invitation to take her to the Lyon’s Masquerade.
With the help of a widow match maker, Lord Dermott must find a wife within two months or he is set to marry his much younger cousin.
When Lord Peter Dermott and Audrey meet, she immediately finds him very attractive and hopes he can help her. Peter can’t stop thinking about Audrey and when his sister and niece seem to easily attach to her, he knows she is the one.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing
The mysterious Mrs. Dove-Lyon secures marriages between couples wishing to find a partner. Yet when Audrey arrives at her doorstep, she is not looking for marriage but instead needs to secure an invitation to Lyon’s masquerade, the annual event hosted by her once-stepfather, Vincent Lyon. Her reasons appear simple, that she must retrieve the statue that her stepfather stole from her late mother. Yet there is more to this invitation than Audrey wishes to reveal. Mrs. Dove-Lyon introduces her to Lord Peter Dermott, who is in urgent need of a wife. When they meet, the attraction is obvious. Yet the more time they spend together and with each other’s families, the more their attraction grows. Yet will retrieving the statue be successful and can Peter go through with this, in the likelihood that his reputation will be ruined.
I enjoyed this couple’s story, both interesting characters. The relationship was not forced and progressed naturally, especially given the length of the novella.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I have enjoyed The Lyon's Den books. This book was as enjoyable as the rest. Audrey goes to Mrs. Dove-Lyon to get help on securing an invitation to a masquerade where she will steal a valuable statue that belonged to her mother. Mrs. Dove-Lyon gets assistance from Peter, Lord Dermott. Together, Peter and Audrey, not only steal the statue, but fall in love. It was a quick story. It was not hot and steamy, but still had a touch of romance.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an honest review.
Audrey wants to reclaim a statue that her evil stepfather stole from her family. She then wants to sell it and give all the money to a charity. She enlists Mrs. Dove-Lyon, who immediately pairs her with Peter, a nice bachelor. Peter agrees to the crazy scheme without batting an eyelash, even though he had never met Audrey before! I think this story needed to be longer to develop the characters better. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

Lord Peter Dermott is looking for a wife in the next 2 months, if he doesn’t achieve his aim he will have to honour the betrothal set in place for him, to marry a young woman who he has nothing in common with and no affection for.
Receiving an invitation to The Lyon’s Den, he goes to see if he can acquire a wife before times up.
Miss Audrey Ruston approaches Mrs Dove Lyon to find a partner to help her steal back a statuette that was stolen from her mother. This is where Peter first meets her, Little does Audrey know that he’s going to be her partner in more ways than one, but this time for life.
A good book and enjoyable characters.
For some reason I had problems sticking with the story for some of the time, it didn’t hold my attention as others in this series have.
But it was ok and had a good plot base, and a decent evil stepfather too.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
A wonderful novella, How to Steal a Lyon’s Fortune follows Audrey and Peter as they find love and work to reclaim a stolen statue. The story begins like most of the books in The Lyon’s Den Connected World with the protagonists seeking Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s assistance in finding a spouse. This is the case for Peter. However, Audrey’s case is a little bit different. Audrey needs entrance to an elite masquerade to retrieve a statue that technically belongs to her. She approaches Mrs. Dove-Lyon for assistance, as Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s reputation is also on the line. As always, Mrs. Dove-Lyon, legendary matchmaker and owner of The Lyon’s Den, has a solution – Lord Dermott.
Lord Dermott, or Peter, needs a wife before he is pushed into marrying his selfish distant cousin. Mrs. Dove Lyon, aware of his predicament, offers a solution – Audrey. The romance between Audrey and Peter is a lovely example of love-at-first-sight. The couple instantly feels drawn to each other, and their feelings only grow. I love how invested each is in the other’s well-being and happiness. They are both strong, intelligent, and caring people who love deeply and have a profound sense of loyalty and duty.
Peter and Audrey are very close with the few living relatives they have. I love Peter’s sister and niece. They are so sweet! Both have been deeply affected by the losses in their lives, and they now depend on Peter. He is so patient and caring with them, as is Audrey when she meets them. And the girls take quickly to Audrey. Bound by a shared loss, they understand each other’s grief. Audrey’s uncle is also a well-developed and interesting character, and I love how these two families slowly come together.
Another aspect of the story that I really like is the art references and appreciation. Audrey and her uncle are passionate about art, and there are several conversations about paintings, sculptures, and more. The premise of the story even revolves around reclaiming precious art. I found this so interesting and even looked up some of the pieces that are referenced.
Like the other books in The Lyon’s Den world, How to Steal a Lyon’s Fortune is a quick and swoon-worthy story that can be read as a standalone. I think it will appeal to readers who like historical romances with great characters, suspenseful heists, and a wonderful love story. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Dragonblade Publishing, and Alanna Lucas for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
