I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. I found this book of the early married years of the British monarch fascinating very well written and easy to read I highly recommend.
Absolutely adorable book I love the royal family. oved this book. Lots of interesting information to digest. This is a great read for anyone who loves to read about history. Very well written
Lovely insight into the late Queen and her great love, Prince Philip. Really enjoyed the development of her story - and it was the right time to read this book, following her death at the age of 96.
This biography tells the story of the romance between Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. This was a very comprehensive biography. However, there were no new details about this book that I have gained from other biographies. Still, I recommend this for fans of The Crown!
Thank you to the publisher, NetGalley, and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. This is one of the better recent biographical releases for Queen Elizabeth II & Phillip. With the surge of popularity (or maybe just attention to) in the Royals due to media publicity, the hit television show The Crown, and family drama, there is probably a need for more bios with update information. Not just updated, but accurate! British history is my favorite subject to read about, so I try to read all releases that come out in this subgenre. This book is one of the better recent releases for several reasons:
1) Plenty of accurate historical research presented;
2) Accessible & clear writing style;
3) Great cover, layout, and design;
4) Concise in its aims.
So, this book aims to cover the early years between the Queen & Phillip. Readers who may have just watched The Crown will then get to see research on what those years were like from a historical perspective. Resources utilized include letters, documents, interviews/personal accounts, etc. The book is straight forward and deals in the objective most of the time.
I am wondering now if there will be a next installment from this author about the rest of the time they have spent together? Will be looking.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. This book was so nice to read. I was so curious how this great love came to be. One cannot always rely on Netflix for their information ha ha
I am a huge royalist so was over the moon to be accepted for this novel.
I absolutely love reading about the queen.
I am currently watching the crown and I really enjoyed reading this book alongside watching that.
It is a very useful insight into what actually goes on behind closed doors in the royal family.
Full of interesting facts and a very entertaining read.
I really enjoyed this book. I am not what you would call a royalist but I wanted to learn about the history. It is evident how much they loved each other which is a beautiful thing. We got to know each of their stories and how the both of them had supported one another wholeheartedly.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me this arc to read in exchange for an honest and fair review.
This was a lovely read and diamond amongst the troves of biographical books detailing the lives and history of the British Royal Family. Much to my surprise, it was actually written in 1987 to mark the marriage and 40th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. It chronicles how they met, their engagement and wedding, how their lives changed after Elizabeth's assumption of the throne, the birth of their children, and the marriages of their children. I thought that the writing was clean and detailed without being overwhelming. I recommend this book for those who are looking to learn more about the Windsors and the long relationship shared between Elizabeth and Philip.
While the author has a compelling turn of phrase, there was little in this book that I didn't know as a royal watcher. A good primer for one who is beginning their journey of learning about the British Royal Family, but nothing groundbreaking.
I'm a sucker for books about the Queen and Prince Philip, but I haven't seen many about their early years including their courtship. Till this one, and I knew that I just had to read this one. And I was not disappointed with this book. Because Elizabeth and Philip's story was that of a fairy tale princess and prince.
Rich with the history of the Queen and her prince, this was a fascinating insight into their early years.
Packed with lots of interesting of things I never knew about them, I really enjoyed learning more about the royals.
They all have their flaws, yet what a cute couple they were!
As pleasant as it was to read about the meeting, courtship, and early years of marriage of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, the story became tedious for me about the time her younger two children were born.
If you are interested in the details of the royal family in post-World War II through the 1950s as it relates to a young couple making a home and renovating properties and working Royal trips then you will enjoy this piece.
Interesting glimpse into the life and relationship of the Queen and Prince Philip. This was well researched and had just enough detail to make you feel that you know them. What a beautiful relationship they had!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the history of Elizabeth and Philip. I learned about events in their relationship I have never heard anywhere else. A must for Royalty history lovers.
Rich with history and royal family lineage, this is a comprehensive look at courtship of The Queen and Prince Phillip. It details their first encounters through 1987, hence the title The Early Years. This was a pleasure to read.
Given the popularity of The Crown and the recent death of Prince Philip, many readers may be interested in taking a look back at how Elizabeth and Philip, met, courted and became one of the world’s best known couples and love stories. This book offers an uncontroversial retelling of their story. Those who are fans of royal biographies may well want to look at this one. It is part of a series of four books that the author penned about the royal family.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
This is a re-issued book by "Helen Cathcart" the nom de plume of Harold Albert who churned out benign royal books until his death in 1997. Nothing controversial was ever said in a Cathcart royal biography. This volume originally appeared many years ago. This is not a new book, but is an enjoyable read for those unfamiliar with the Royal Family.
Who doesn't love the Queen of England? This book about her and the love of her life was very informative and enjoyable.
This book gives an excellent look into the inner workings of their love for each other. Especially now, after his passing, this book has a bittersweet feel to it. Great details and storytelling.
