This four chapter excerpt is such a tease and has me hooked. Celebrities, fake dating, media scandals - I'll take it. But with just these four chapters it's obvious that there is more than just a relationship of convenience, or necessity. Someone has caught feelings - and I must find out who it all plays out. I must get the finished copy of The View Was Exhausting ASAP!
My rating is for this excerpt.
I enjoyed this excerpt, but wish it'd gotten a little more into the main characters' relationship. It seemed like I would enjoy the whole book, but it was hard with the limited scope of the preview.
When I saw this excerpt was available, I decided to give it a try. I had heard so much about this book prior to the release date, and the first few chapters did not disappoint. The writing is every bit as romantic and steamy as I'd heard, and I think it's going to end up being one of my favorite summer reads.
This is in my top 10 summer reading recommendations! I found it disarmingly smart and on-the-nose with the insider machinations of celebrity and image-management without being cynical. I'm delighted to include it in the July instalment of Novel Encounters, my regular column highlighting the month's top fiction for Zed, Zoomer magazine’s reading and books section (full review and feature at link).
This excerpt of The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements & Onjuli Datta was such a tease! I will definitely be reading the full book!!!! Wow!
Utterly charming!
A brief intro into a Hollywood coupling arrangement for the cameras! Tackles issues of the papparazi, fans, being famous and being a minority woman in Hollywood. Can't wait to read the full book on publication!
I really enjoyed the way this was written. The characters were compelling, and with just an excerpt through NetGalley, I can’t wait to read the full story.
A gripping start to a book I have to read now! Can't wait for pub day. Looking forward to another great release this summer. Hard to rate considering I haven't read the whole book yet but the beginning definitely has promise.
I was immediately interested in this book. It reminded me a little of The Comeback by Ella Berman (which I really liked.) I love a young Hollywood story and I can’t wait to read the whole book when it comes out.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance excerpt. Can’t wait for pub day.
I don't particularly like excerpts because they leave me hanging, but I made an exception for The View Was Exhausting. A positive blog review of the book prompted me to request it. The first few chapters paint a picture of a relationship of convenience used to quell negative media attention. Win and Leo's on and off again "relationship" is complicated by, what appear to be, very real feelings. Win seems reluctant to follow those feelings and pursue what she and Leo could be. While Leo has a laid-back attitude, Win is overly conscious of media scrutiny. She has to be so they are constantly reconnecting. Although her life appears glitzy and glamourous, melancholic overtones are scattered throughout as their past and present relationships unfold on the pages. I am invested and look forward to the rest of the novel. I really need this have a HEA.
So so good! I feel like there is not much tension or slowburn because they are so easygoing with each other but nonetheless still veeeery cute ig
This preview of the first four chapters fully sucked me in, I will definitely be picking up a copy when it's released!
Was just okay for an exerted to. Didn’t really want to read more unfortunately. Maybe should have given a different part.
This was a a fantastic excerpt - I am so invested and can't wait to read more of this story. I've definitely added a note to my calendar to grab this book when it releases in July.
loved the few chapters that were available to read and really hope to be able to read the entire book as it was so cool, funny and engaging. I want more of this great writing.....
After reading the first four chapters, I am very intrigued to read the rest and will definitely be buying the full book.
If what I have read in these chapters continues throughout the rest of the book, I think I will love it! I really enjoyed the writing style and characters. It seems like exactly the type of story I love, and can’t wait for more!
Thank you for providing me with this excerpt.
I only got to read four chapters but I am eager to get to the rest of this book ASAP! Just these few chapters gave me a taste of how fabulous this book will be. And check out that cover!! Gorgeous. Looking forward to reading the whole book. Thank you for this excerpt for review!
This is a review for just the first four chapters of The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta. While the excerpt is intriguing, I'm not a huge fan of the Hollywood celebs drama. It does seem like a great summer read though, so I might be tempted to read more about Win and Leo when it comes out in July!
Thank you Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for providing this advanced chapter sampler.
Interesting excerpt. Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for a peek inside Leo and Win's story. I am definitely looking forward to read the rest of it. Also the idea of a British Indian main character is very very refreshing and the fake relationship turned real plot (though used a lot before) is always interesting to read about. I will definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed the first 4 chapters of this book. I’m definitely adding it to my TBR list! This was a fun, sexy start and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
