This was a really good excerpt! Can't wait to read the rest of the book! I'm excited to see how the story continues.
After reading just a small excerpt of such a well written and creative romance, I had to purchase the book. Two adults in the literary world with a steamy past makes this a book you do t want to miss!
This excerpt was beautifully written and I can't wait to read this in its entirety. I am already attached to the characters and am excited to see how they develop. I can see why this was one of the most anticipated books in June!
I received an excerpt of this book from Netgalley. From the first paragraph of the first chapter, I was hooked. This book contains some heated scenes of a single mother trying to balance her career and motherhood. I will purchase this book and continue to see what I've missed.
This excerpt was excellent and I am dying to read the full book. The main character pulled me in and I couldn’t put it down.
I love the voice and tone of this book--I want more. I want to know more about the characters and what will happen to them. An excerpt is not enough and I can't wait to read the whole thing.
I can understand why it may be a hit. Woman writer, sex and romance, but it wasn't for me. I loved that the sex is a big part of the book especially the sexual release in it. And again that the writer is a woman and you can feel it, but I did not connect to writing style
I flew through this excerpt. I usually will only read a chapter or so of a book in each sitting. This one kept me wanting to turn the pages and now I want to know more about Eva!
Romance is not my go-to genre. I typically stay far away from star-crossed lovers and cheesy rom-com tropes. SEVEN DAYS IN JUNE is not your average romance, and I can't stop turning the pages. There is substance, the characters have depth, and the writing is thoughtful. I can already tell from this excerpt that this novel is different from the rest.
The first four chapters introduce us to Eva Mercy, a single mother working tirelessly to keep her floundering erotica writing career afloat. We meet Eva in the first few sentences of the book as she nearly misses death by choking on a piece of gum, Eva and her daughter's relationship is endearing and am excited to read more about this rich cast of characters.
Seven Days in June is an own voices novel with heart that will have broad appeal. This non-romance reader is hooked.
Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an excerpt of the first four chapters of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I won’t be reviewing Tia Williams’ much-anticipated ‘Seven Days in June’ as I’ve only read NetGalley’s three chapter sample of the book, but I’m happy to share what I‘ve read with you.
Eva Mercy is a popular erotica writer and single mum to twelve-year-old Audre (named after Audre Lorde). She’s supposed to be writing the fifteenth book in her star-crossed vampire series but she’s not coming up with any fresh ideas.
Mothering, writing and fan events are sometimes a challenge for Eva. She’s been beset with intractable migraines since she was a child and they render her unable to do anything while she is in their grip.
Based on the three chapters I read alongside the marketing description below, I shall definitely be purchasing a copy of ‘Seven Days in June’.
The abbreviated marketing description:
“Seven days to fall in love, fifteen years to forget and seven days to get it all back again...
Brooklynite Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer, who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning literary author.
When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their past buried traumas, but the eyebrows of New York's Black literati. What no one knows is that twenty years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. They may be pretending that everything is fine now, but they can't deny their chemistry — or the fact that they've been secretly writing to each other in their books ever since ...
With its keen observations of Black life and the condition of modern motherhood, as well as the consequences of motherless-ness, ‘Seven Days in June’ is by turns humorous, warm and deeply sensual.”
Thank you to @NetGalley and @GrandCentralPub for a three chapter sample of ‘Seven Days in June’.
I've heard great things about this book - I didn't realize this was only the excerpt but excited to read the whole thing!
Loved the excerpt, def left me wanting more. love seeing it as a Reese pick for June as well, can’t wait to pick this one up.
I can't really give a full review for an excerpt, mainly because it won't be a complete one. My apologies.
Actually quite excited to read this one, since it's featured by Reese.
Love the excerpt and it left me wanting more! I can't wait to read and review the book!
It's one of my most anticipated summer reads and the excerpt is amazing! I cannot wait to read more! I love the author!
From the beginning, Eva and her daughter Audre, and the world they inhabit are fully realized. I can't wait to read the rest of this book!
Love the characters and the writing so far. This feels like a really unique story that isn't similar to anything else I've read. Can't wait for the rest of the book!
Overall, I felt kinda meh about this book. Not necessarily bad, but not particularly memorable either. Giving it 2.5/5 Stars.
I was lucky enough to also receive an ARC of the full novel, a novel I ended up thoroughly enjoying! Review of the whole novel has been provided!
i didn’t realize this is an excerpt, but i liked what i read so far. will probably check out the full book!
I just got the excerpt of this book, but I liked what I read. I enjoyed meeting Eva and her daughter and hope to read the whole book at a later date.
