I loved this book. It is one of my favorite books that I've read so far this year. This book is the epitome of a thriller. It was perfectly paced with a perfect ending. I'm so sad that it's over.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the chance to read Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins. After reading The wife upstairs I was excited to Reckless girls but soon found myself putting it down, over and over..I just couldnt get into the story, the characters, and the story kept jumping back and forth too quickly before I could get interested in it. I finally had to give up. I may try again later but at the moment its not for me. I definitely recommend The wife upstairs though.

I like locked door mysteries. What could go wrong when you're on a beautiful deserted island in the middle of the ocean? Well.... how about.... EVERYTHING? This is a great mystery! I liked it overall, especially the ending.

A lot of twists are predicable. The pacing back and forth between the then (to know the past of a couple of characters) and the now (on the island) confused more than helped me. It sounded like I was missing a lot of details... But... wait for it, everything resolved itself.

Many thanks to the publisher for the complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Rachel Hawkins explores can you really get away from your problem on a deserted Island:

Lux has always wanted to travel the world and with personal tragedy recently now is better than ever. When her boyfriend Leo suggests traveling via his boat the Susannah, Lux cannot wait to get away. But they end up getting stuck in Hawaii, working dead in job in order to pay for boat repairs. The boat is just fixed when they are hired by 2 women to take them to a private off the beaten path island. The job pays well and Lux and Leo are wanting to escape again. Once there the private beach is amazing but not alone for long when a Golden couple end up on the beach too. Everything is going great but being cut off from civilization can change people, make you see differently and the dynamics of relationships change. Lux soon begins to realize not is all what it seems and she doesn't know who she can trust.

This is the second book that I have read by Hawkins and what I like is that this is completely different from The Wife Upstairs. While the format is similar and I would call this a domestic suspense type book due to all the relationships involved in this book but the plot line and twists that Hawkins takes is completely different.

This book makes me miss the beach and vacations even more (Thanks COVID) but aside from that, this book is a roller coaster ride the farther you get in to it. Even though I was able to figure out the twists that Hawkins was going to throw out there, I was not sure how everything was going to play out. So this was a fun ride that does start off slow and seems just like people having a fun Island party but it for sure takes a dark turn.

There are three main POV that have both current and before aspects with them but Lux is the character that gets the most page time. And I’m not going to lie there were times when I would get Brittney and Amma’s POV confused when they were in the before chapters. I wish that there was not an Eliza POV as I felt like it gave too much away and assisted me in figuring out what was going to happen. I think the information that was given in her POV actually hindered the story.

Lux feels like a very real person, her insecurities, he wanting to run away from the pain in her life and thinking that it will solve all her problems. As many people know that doesn't exactly work, so there is lots of drama and self searching begins and not all of it is positive. So Lux does grows as a character in throughout this book and the events that happen in the Island really do change her, which i appreciate Hawkins doing.

I really enjoyed this book, it was a little bit slow to start with getting to know the characters but keep with it craziness is going to happen. I look forward to seeing what Hawkins comes out with next.

Enjoy!!!

I choose this book for the cover - it’s pretty and gives off “island vibes.” I thought it was a mystery, which it is, but it’s not what you’d expect. I hate to give out spoilers or rehash stories, so I’ll just say try it! Especially if you’re in the mood for a quick beach read.

Reckless Girls was a crazy read I had to read the last two chapters over To make sure what I thought happened happened. Love when I am surprised. Rachel Hawkens did a great job. Thanks Netgalley.

The first half of Reckless Girls was interesting and the overall premise was intriguing. Lux and her boyfriend are hired by Brittany and Amma to sail them from Hawaii to the deserted, small island of Meroe in the South Pacific. Soon after, another boat arrives with Eliza and her boyfriend Jake. All is good for a while, then the lies start getting revealed and chaos follows.
The ending felt rushed to me and preposterous. There were also quite a few plot holes that I couldn't get past.
I did like the setting and Lux as a character. The other characters - not so much.

Thank you netgalley and St. Martins press for opportunity to read this arc and provide my honest feedback.

Wow. This is my second book by this author and she definitely has a talent at pulling you in and keeping you engrossed where the words just flow and before you know it it's the middle of the night and you need to go to bed. Read this book in less than a day, which definitely helped me get out of my reading slump. Definitely recommend this for a creepy gothic stranded island type thriller that's fast paced and unputdownable.

Wow. This book was very good, though it has a slow start. There is a reason for the slow start, I found out. Once it gets going, you can't put it down. Awesome story!
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and the author for a chance to read this advanced copy.

I couldn’t get into this book. The plot was something I would normally like but I didn’t fall in love with the characters.

I'm just going to be honest. This was one of my most anticipated reads, but it ended up being a DNF for me. I meant to pick it back up, but I haven't had the urge to at all. If I do, I'll update this later, but for now, I don't feel comfortable leaving an official review.

Reckless Girls is an understatement! These girls want it all and they want anyone standing in their way or who have wronged them, to pay!
Lux is alone in the world after losing her mom when she meets Nico. Handsome, confident, and into her, what more could she want! When Nico invites her to charter 2 girls to beautiful Meroe Island, she hesitates at first. Then she has Nico convince the girls to pay to repair his boat, The Susannah, so they can travel on that. This is what Lux has been dreaming of hitting the open water on The Susannah! Meroe island seems like paradise and when another couple join them, it seems like paradise. They all become fast friends and have a great time, at first. But as tensions rise and the realization of how far they are actually away from civilization, things start to get crazy. The new friends’ lies are revealed and everyone begins to realize that they may not all be here for the reasons that they thought! Crazy ride with twists and an unexpected ending!
Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

After loving The Upstairs Wife so much, I was severely disappointed with this follow up thriller. When the book summary gives away things that don't even happen until 2/3rds of the way through, you're mystery probably isn't the greatest. The characters are all pretty annoying and their mysterious backgrounds are very unexpected. Everything felt pretty obvious and I'm not familiar with the Agatha Christie it's inspired by. By giving away in the book summary some of the more interesting plot points that occur in the second half of the book, there isn't much to be suspenseful about.

I was interested in this book because I've read a few of Rachel Hawkins's books for younger readers, and enjoyed them. I also followed her tweets about her boat murder book avidly, and was not disappointed by the end result. I love books that are fully of pretty people who find themselves in situations that aren't as they seem, and even though the advertised murder didn't happen until later on in the book, the whole thing was still so unsettling that it didn't really matter to me. And I mean everything -- the fact that the characters are definitely keeping secrets, and Meroe Island itself, all of it.

I read this book because it was one I, personally, was interested in. I suppose if I were a high school teacher, I could recommend it to students, as the characters in this book are in their 20s, and are still trying to figure out what to do with their lives.

I was very interested in this premise and the first couple of chapters really pulled me in. I was intrigued by the characters and setting. I would say the first half of the book did a great job building mystery and suspense. The second half was a little slow and kind of just puttered out. The character development kind of stagnated as well.

I predicted the ending, which is not really a problem, but I know bothers a lot of readers. I also thought the epilogue was a but unnecessary.
