This was a difficult book, as it is about the depths to which fear and desperation can take us. It made me wonder if there is really as much evil as there is in this story, who can one really trust, and how important it is to really know someone before starting out on adventure with them, lest that adventure be a fool’s journey.

There is not a single likeable character in this story, once you get to know them. And it is precisely that that makes this book so delicious.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley.

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins is a twisty thriller set on a remote island. Lux and her boyfriend Nico are hired to sail two best friends to their destination. Everyone on the trip is eager for a break, and the reasons why are revealed as the story goes. As it turns out, that remote island they're headed to isn't so remote as there are passengers from another boat there. As you can imagine given the genre, these individuals have some secrets of their own. Relationships get twisty, stuff starts happening, and the island is far, far, FAR from a relaxing escape. Here's the thing y'all, on premise alone, you probably could've guessed this was going to go sideways, so it's really just a matter of how it goes down when literally everyone is hiding something! Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this 2022 release!

Thank you to NetGalley and Rachel Hawkins for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Lux has had some really bad luck in her life. However, she meets Nico a gorgeous guy with a boat. He wants to sail but his boat is broken. Amma and Brittany are friends from a grief counseling group who want to have a sailing adventure as part of their vacation together. Luckily they meet Nico and agree to fix his boat and pay him to take them to a remote island for two weeks. He agrees and Lux comes along on the journey. This remote island is reported to be where a group of soldiers resorted to cannibalism. Does the island really make you go crazy?

While this book did not give me the twist I had come to expect it I still very much enjoyed this book. The ending did wrap a little quickly and a bit too neatly I expected more. It did rush through the ending when the lead up and backstories were so well explained. That disappointed me a little and have to give 4 stars but overall I was excited to read this book and felt it was a can't miss.

This was one of my most anticpated reads for 2021 but it was such a disappointment! It took me forever to read.

Our Reckless Girls are Lux who is the narrartor, then Nico, Brittnay and Amma, then Elisa.
They go to an island ,meet Robbie, whose basically just a moocher.

And then not much else happens or becomes some type of mystery. I loved Rachel's previous book- devoured it in one day but this one missed the mark for me.

There were some quick thrills in the book, I'd be curious to see what others think.

Thanks to St. Martins press, NetGalley and Edelweiss for my ebook copy.

I can not recommend this book enough! I read Reckless Girl in one day. This thriller/suspense book will be one of best books of 2022.. I appreciate net gallery and selected publishers for this early copy

SO GOOD! This was the perfect "beach read" for me (minus the fact that I am unfortunately not on a beach currently). A quick read with a few twists where you're left scratching your head as the reader, knowing there's more to the story than you currently know. There are spoilers I don't want to give away, so I guess I'll just say Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned.

I was very excited to receive this ARC! I loved the premise of the Wife Upstairs, but I felt underwhelmed by its ending. I was really hoping to enjoy this one more, and I did!

Lux and her boyfriend Nico are living on Maui, hoping to set sail to the rest of the world but needing the money to do so when they get an offer they can’t refuse: taking Amma and Brittany to Meroe Island. an atoll which was the site of a shipwreck during world war 2. For 50 THOUSAND dollars. It’s too good of an offer to pass up, so the four head off to Meroe Island, where they meet Eliza and her boyfriend Jake. What follows is a very strange, compelling, Lost-esque study- without the ending being ruined by a plot that would make readers angry.

I found Reckless Girls to be a page-turner that didn’t disappoint, and I was even more thrilled with the imagery. Gosh I miss Hawaii!

Intriguing read filled with a lot of not so nice people.. be they rich or poor. I really like the story line of people going missing on an island only to end up dead.. But, that is not really a good description of Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins. That is not what this book is about-I think the plot is unique but the characters did not flesh out for me. Even the main character Lux seemed a bit too cardboard cut out. However, I still would recommend because I could not stop reading. I guess my point is that I think the author did not flesh out all the characters for a good reason. Definitely-a recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

Thank you to NetGalley for this digital ARC of Rachel Hawkins' new thriller, Reckless Girls, releasing in January of 2022. Lux is not in love with her boyfriend, but she follows him to Maui anyway. After months of service work at a hotel, she is fired and embracing newfound freedom. When two girls, Brittany and Amma approach her boyfriend about taking them to a deserted island with a mysterious past on his boat, Lux hesitantly agrees to this ill-fated adventure.

I really enjoyed this book! A thriller set on a deserted island is my cup of tea, and will definitely be the perfect antidote to stuck-inside, cabin-fever, dead-of-winter blues when this book releases in January. However, I cannot give this book five stars for the following reasons:

1. I wish we had gotten a little more information on the island itself. I looked the use of mixed media to give the island a spooky and atmospheric history, but I wish we could have gotten even more!

2. It was unclear to me at the end who exactly killed Nico. I thought that Brittany had admitted to this crime, but Lux still seems convinced that Jake did it in the end. I'm not sure if this was an oversight in the ARC that will be corrected, or if we're meant to be unsure.

3. Robbie's purpose as a character seemed a little underdeveloped. He was merely tangential to the story. While he did serve to increase the creep factor, and he smashed the radios which effectively cut off the others from the outside world, I think the book could have progressed just as well, if not better without him. A closed mystery involving only the six original cast may have been more intriguing to read.

4. I saw the first twist coming from a mile away. However, the second twist was a little bit of a shocker. I did figure it out just a few pages before the big reveal, but it but a nice close on everything.

5. I found Lux's to be kind of a wishy-washy character. Her me-against-them paranoia served her well in the end, but overall it didn't endear her to me.

Overall, a very fast-paced read that I will definitely be recommending to friends and followers!

Lux has struggled since the death of her mother. Lux follows her boyfriend, Nico, to Maui in the hopes for a better life and the promise to travel the world. Instead, she finds herself stuck in a miserable job cleaning hotel rooms.

One day, Nico is offered $50,000 to take two young women (Brittany and Amma) to a remote, uninhabited island with a questionable history. Lux goes along, excited for the adventure. The four of them quickly become friends. A beautiful Island (Meroe Island), a wealthy couple, food, wine and all the luxuries. But things and people aren't always as they seem. The longer they are on the Island the crazier things are becoming.

I really enjoyed The Wife Upstairs so I was really excited to read this book by the same author! I thought the setting of the characters being on a deserted island was very interesting. I felt that the number of characters was the perfect amount. You really got to know everyone and did not get anyone confused. I did not see the ending coming and I was kept guessing the entire time. I definitely recommend this book and can't wait for it to be published! Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

While perhaps not objectively good, something in this book had a flawless logical resonance. This, of course, leads me to the conclusion that I've been a blissfully unaware sociopath this whole time and I'm super fucking okay with that.

This was a tension-packed read about a group of 20 something year olds who stumbled upon each other and all end up going to a deserted island. Once I got halfway through the book, it was hard to put down!

How could I resist a novel with the title, "Reckless Girls"? I couldn’t and I’m glad I didn’t.

Lux and Nico are living in Hawaii where their plan to sail to isolated islands is dashed by damage to Nico’s boat. Nico, working at the docks, meets two college girls on vacation who are looking for boat travel to and from Moroe Island: A deserted atoll carved from coral and scene to a tragic 1800 ship wreck. The couple agrees and the four set sail upon Nico’s twenty-five-footer for the two-week trip. They arrive—after a terrible storm—and are disappointed to find another boat anchored in the lagoon. This was supposed to be their island; their private paradise. And someone beat them to it. They drop anchor anyway. A few days later, a third boat arrives and then things really get strange….

Hawkins does not disappoint in this thriller set on a deserted island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. We watch her characters change as events force them into unpredictable circumstances. And, we believe the changes because the writing is that good. If you’re in the mood for a thriller, this book is for you!

5 Stars. Excellent.

Holy cow this book was so good. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. Lux was a realistic character that you could relate to and root for. The setting was this wonderful paradise that held a sinister past. The feelings of isolation from civilization gives it a lord of the flies type quality. The jumps from "Now" and "Before" were done really well. They continued the story without ever giving anything away until it was time. The plot moved at just the right pace. You felt the lazy days of relaxing on a tropical beach but also the apprehension of something wicked coming. I really enjoyed The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins but Reckless Girls was even better. She is going to take the book world by a storm with this one.

This is a near 4 because it feels forced frequently. We have all nature of Reckless Girls here. Lux (think about her name with regard to her financial status as you read) has followed Nico to Hawaii after her mother’s death. She then loses her job. Enter the entitled ones who want to pay Nico 50K to travel to a remote island shrouded in tall tales of horrors. Or are they more than a myth?

Brittany, Amma, Lux and Nico set sail for Meroe where they are not delighted to see a large boat already there. Enter Jake and Eliza who are so friendly, the boat flush with food, alcohol and more. Why not make the best of it? The island is beautiful, the jungle is waiting to be explored and the group forms and reforms little cliques and easily broken bonds.

The story is told as “before” and “now”. This is not always my favorite literary form and in this case the reader starts putting things together far too early. There are some good twists and Robbie’s presence is clunky, but somewhat necessary to advance the story. I think it is a complete page turner, but the next page rarely reveals the blood pumping details we want.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It had drama, it had love, it had adventure, and it had a sneaky turn of events.

This is the first novel I've read by Hawkins and I look forward to reading more of her works in the future!

This a good one. Rachel Hawkins knows how write very well! It's a solid 4 stars! This is my Rachel's first novel, and I liked so much that I couldn't put it down. Reckless Girls has such a amazing characters! Just when your in the final, it just blow off your mind. The final plot twist is so good! So so many twists and turns until the end. It seams impossible, but I make sure it is not! Her writing is descriptive, amazing witg deeper characters and a good plot fresh and unique.
I just want to say thank you the publisher and Netgalley.

Reckless Girls was quite the ride. Rachel Hawkins is such a fantastic writer that I felt stranded and claustrophobic while reading. Lux follows her boyfriend, Nico, from California to Hawaii. They are approached by two women to take them to Meroe Island, using Nico’s boat named The Susannah. But, everyone has a secret. Everyone has a past. What unravels is aptly thought out and I did not see the end coming.
This is told from multiple points of view and has a nonlinear timeline, using flashbacks to reveal past events and the motives of different characters.
