B.A Paris is one of those thriller writers that I will always read. They are consistent and always give me a slew of characters to work through. While this wasn't my favorite of hers, it was still a strong 3.5 stars.

Alice and Leo are a newer couple when they decide to move in together and move to an upscale gated community that Leo has picked out. Right from the get go we are already questioning Leo and his motive for moving to a place where neither of them know anyone. But they soon find their people and Alice finds out that their house may have not been such a good deal after all. There was a murder that took place only a year ago. And that is where we start questioning anyone and everyone because Alice apparently thinks she's a detective.

As with all Paris books, she takes us around and around and unleashes clues to the mystery at hand. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and their involvement with Nina and her death. But it seemed like everyone was keeping secrets and we had to do some digging. And Alice wasn't going to let sleeping dogs lie. She HAD to know what happened to her and who was the culprit. I had to laugh a bit that your "run of the mill" neighbor just moves in and wanted to solve a murder mystery of someone she didn't know. So, please suspend your beliefs for this particular story. Otherwise, it was still entertaining to watch how each character interacted and how Alice came to some correct and incorrect conclusions. It really will leave you turning the pages (or in my case, staying in my car to listen to more of the audio after getting to my destination), wanting to know what happens next.

I really liked the audio and Olivia Dowd did a tremendous job with her performance of the whole book (minus the one chapter that Thomas Judd narrated). Her inflection left me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen to her (or rather the characters she was portraying). She definitely gave the audiobook an advantage and made me enjoy the story a little bit more than if I'd read it. While I did figure out whodunit rather early on, there are still twists that you get at the end that were a little unexpected.

Overall, another solid psychological thriller from BA Paris and an excellent performance from the narrator that really sold her characters she took over.

Getting a house with your long distance boyfriend is probably not the best idea especially with a guy you never thought to do a background check on. The neighbors are welcoming in the circle and they become friends. However, when she finds out her boyfriend lied to her about a murder that happened a few months ago in the house and some other things he lied about. Well it becomes her mission to figure out who the killer is, even to the point as being convinced it could be each one of her neighbors. Paranoid much?

Weird things start happening at the house and will she be in time to figure out who the murderer really is before she is their latest victim?
Twisty thriller that made me second guess who the killer was.

I'm thrilled that I was able to read this digital ARC! I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

The narrator, Olivia Dowd, is easy to listen to. She is the narrator for all characters and most of the book, with the exception of one chapter narrated by Thomas Judd. Olivia Dowd's voice is easy to follow when switching between characters in dialogue and really brings the book to life!

Alice & Leo are the newbies in The Circle, a private gated little community in London. When Alice finds out one of the former residents was murdered in the house, she begins to wonder and question everyone who lives in The Circle, her own boyfriend and pretty much every one else who is connected in any way to The Circle.

This definitely gave me Big Little Lies and Desperate Housewives vibes. The women of The Circle get together for weekly yoga and afternoon tea, in addition to coffee out or at one of their houses, jogging, shopping, etc. They come across as very gossipy and caddy, but when Alice asks questions about the murder victim, they all seem to be tight-lipped.

Alice, with the help of private investigator, Thomas Grainger, begins to speculate many different theories about the murder and who the murderer may have been.

What a wild ride! I kept trying to guess along the way, but I was thrown off time and again! I finished it in two days because I couldn't stop listening. I would definitely recommend this one!

Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for this advanced audio copy in return for an honest review.

Wow, that ending! I enjoy B. A. Paris’ books and this one is no different. I found it to be a slow burner but on audiobooks, I don’t mind. I weeded the gardens, folded laundry, cleaned dishes, etc with this audiobook because I couldn’t turn it off. I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. Looking for an addictive thriller, then check this one out.

I really enjoyed The Therapist as well as the narration of the audio book.

Alice and her boyfriend Leo move into an exclusive gated community, and Alice soon finds out that the previous home owner had been murdered. The woman’s husband was accused and committed suicide in prison. For the members of the small community, the murder/suicide was unsettling and still hard for them to deal with, but they are able to move on somewhat because they accept that the husband was the killer. Alice can’t shake odd feelings she has in her new home and does not believe that the husband was really the murderer, even though she never knew the couple.

The story kept my attention, and although I had many correct inklings about what could be happening and what was to come, I was a little surprised by some details - which I always appreciate. Alice made many questionable choices and some moments were repetitive, but never enough to keep me from being entertained.

4/5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley, MacMillan Audio and the author for an advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It did exactly what it was supposed to do as a thriller, and it kept me wanting to listen and to not turn it off.

I'm a big fan of this author and I've always enjoyed her books, but this was up there with one of her best that I have read.

This book was the perfect escape, and it was extremely easy to read. I listened to it in just a few days. There was a great cast of interesting characters in The Circle, the exclusive housing estate that Alice and Leo move into. I didn't love all the characters, but I appreciated the diversity and strangeness of them and their relationships with each other. The whole estate actually started to feel like a bit of a "cult" at times and I loved those vibes. I also loved the eerie vibes that the author created in regard to the house. Some of the scenes dealing with Alice's experiences in the house really gave me the creeps, and got the hairs on my arms standing up. Be prepared for some great twists and turns and although I did foresee the big reveal, there were a number of smaller twists that had me entertained.

Overall, this is a great thriller. I really enjoyed the narrator who did an excellent job. For those of you that have enjoyed this author's previous books, definitely grab this one because you won't be sorry. And for those of you that are new to this author, this book is a great place to start before heading on to read the rest of her books.

I listened to this on audio and I wish I would have read it instead. I absolutely loved Behind Closed Doors and recommend it to everyone, even if they don't ask. This psychological thriller starts off slow, but starts to pick up about halfway through. I loved how it kept me guessing and I didn't want to stop. Overall, I loved the story and it was exactly what I was looking for.

This was my first by this author and it was a creepy dark introduction to her work. Alice and Leo move into an exclusive neighborhood hoping for the best. A beautiful new home, hopefully new neighbors to befriend and the next step in their lives. Turns out that their lovely new neighborhood is not what it appears to be and no one, specifically Leo has bothered to share with her the horror that occurred in their new home. It peaks Alice’s curiosity. As a result the nosiness turns to sleuthing and she begins to question everyone one and everything. There are twists and turns along the way to a satisfying ending.

This book was good but not until the very end. It had a ton of filler and was slow until a big twist at the end. I would recommend it but with a disclaimer to hold out until the end. I wish there were more twists to have kept it interesting because it was a super slow build up. But overall good.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and B.A Paris for giving me an ALC in exchange for review! This review will be published on my Goodreads and Instagram accounts immediately.

I am struggling a bit to organize my thoughts for this one but simply put, it was a classic thriller with some really fun twists and turns. It was a little predictable, but it didn’t really bother me because there were little elements of the hows and whys that I was still interested in even if I figured out the “who done it” of it all. You are following Alice, whose descent into obsession with a cold case I found myself surprisingly sympathetic to. At times, she was not the most likable person, but she was entirely understandable for why she was taking the actions she was.

I also really enjoyed consuming this via audio! I wonder if I had read it physically if I would have found it a bit dull at some points, but once the story was up and moving I was incredibly intrigued and struggled to stop listening. I highly recommend this one to newer thriller readers, and I predict upon its release seeing a ton of five stars for it, but as I did feel a little too comfortable in my predictions and in the plot line to be thrilled, I am going to stick with my rating of four.

Alice and Leo have moved to a very high end and private community called "The Circle". The neighbors are very close knit with one another and Alice, having just moved away from all of her family and friends, seeks out her neighbor's friendship. Alice quickly learns that her new neighbors have secrets.,

I have only read one other B.A. Paris book and I LOVED it. So, I was excited to read this one just as soon as I could. This one did not knock my socks off the way the other one did, but I still love the ride that B.A. Paris takes us on. I want to first say that I did not completely predict this ending. This is HUGE for avid thriller readers like myself as some of the endings in a lot of thrillers start to become so predictable and bland.

I had a small issue with the title of the story. This is a strange thing to say as I have never had this issue before, but I really do not feel that this title was the best match for the story. There were a few chapters that had the POV of a therapist, but I do not feel that it was nearly enough to warrant the title of the book. Maybe this is another one of BAP's ways to throw the reader off of the trail!

As for Alice, I had a love/hate for her. I wanted to root for her and her tenacity to discover the truth about what happened to the people that lived in her home before her, but I also wanted to slap her for being the nosiest neighbor in the community. I would be more than a little annoyed if someone moved in next to me and asked the questions that she asked her neighbors. She was just so tacky and rude.

I listened to the audio format of this book and could not have been more pleased with the narrator. Her voice sounded so familiar and after googling the name I found that I had just recently listened to another book that she narrated. She is wonderful and seamlessly transitions between characters and accents.

3.5 stars rounded up

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook! It was fast-paced & definitely kept me guessing until the very end.

👍🏼: I enjoy thriller/mysteries where you can’t trust anyone & are suspicious of every character. I was just as confused as the main character, Alice, trying to piece together what happened to the therapist who previously lived in her new home. I suspected almost every single character at some point throughout the story 😂

👎🏼: I didn’t love the ending, however, I definitely would have never predicted it! The story also seemed repetitive at times as the main character kept digging and digging but didn’t appear to be getting very far.

Overall, this was a perfect audiobook story to listen to while running around. It kept me interested & would be a perfect summer listen🎧

I liked this one. The narration was great and I think her ability to use different accents and dialects was amazing. I greatly enjoyed the story and I’m thankful to the publisher for allowing me to give this a listen.

I enjoy the novels of B.A. Paris, particularly in the more domestic - ish vein of The Dilemma and this newest offering. I enjoy delving into the dynamic of families and neighbors in the types of forced- drama settings that she crafts. She does a marvelous job presenting a range of personalities and forcing them into the cucible of a murder or death scenario.

In this latest book, she goes back and forth in time in a way that I found particularly engaging and confusing - in a good way - as it took me awhile to figure out what was really being told in all the back and forth. The drama was a slow build, and that sense of anticipation was enhanced by the narrator who I think did a fantastic job setting the tone for the story.

I really enjoyed this one!

A Suspenseful Thriller with a twist that will keep you guessing until the end!

Alice and her boyfriend, Leo have seemingly hit the jackpot finding a beautiful home at a very desirable price in the exclusive, close knit and picturesque gated community of The Circle, located in London. All is well for the couple until Alice learns that a short time ago, a woman was murdered in their home and to make matters worse, Leo decided to keep this startling piece of information to himself. Upon finding out what happened in her home, Alice becomes enthralled with finding the truth and the real killer behind Nina’s murder. With endless neighborhood gossip, secrets and finger-pointing, she’s thrown for a loop in more ways than one, a reminder that no one can be trusted.

B.A. Paris does a great job of building the suspense and throwing the reader off, while it is a bit of a slow burn, just when you think you’ve figured it out - you find out you’re wrong… at least that was the case for me! It’s a story where you question every character’s innocence up until the truths begin to reveal themselves toward the end. This isn’t an overly dark Thriller, which I personally enjoyed. The Audiobook version of this is incredibly well done, the narrators are enjoyable to listen to and add perfect tone to the story. While there are parts that are a tad bit predictable, the writer is able to deceive the reader in the perfect manner and that makes coming to the final conclusion a fun and addictive adventure.

A big thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio and St.Martin’s Press for the Audiobook ARC of The Therapist.

The Therapist by B. A. Paris ponders the question, "Who can you trust?" Everyone becomes a suspect as Alice finds more questions than answers about the mysterious death of the woman who used to live in her new duplex. Can she trust her new neighbors? Someone was not who they claimed to be at their housewarming party. What doesn't she know about her boyfriend's past? If she helps to solve the crime, will she feel more safe and settled here? Through a past timeline we meet the victim, and the story lines come together for a surprising conclusion. This was one of Paris's better stories, with more layers of mystery. Readers will enjoy guessing along with Alice until the truth is impossible to ignore.

Grab this book ASAP!!!! The suspense. The mystery. The relationships. All of it is so gripping and is put together flawlessly.

I loved the idea of the circle and how it impacted the suspicion throughout the book. Jumping back and forth from Nina’s past to Alice’s present, the reader goes on a wild ride to learn shocking details that happen in the circle. There was a sprinkling of details throughout the book that gave you the illusion you had the right picture. But then another detail dropped and changed everything around.

I am a huge fan of B. A. Paris and have loved every book I have read so far. I would 100% recommend this book!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I switched between the book and audiobook for this one and loved both. If I had to pick a favourite it would be the audiobook because the narration was great. This book was so well-written, suspenseful and a true page-turner! I liked the setting, a circle of friends / neighbours. The characters weren’t really likeable but it worked with the story. The author did a great job misdirecting the reader to have multiple suspects and I actually didn’t figure out the whole ending (which doesn’t happen often). Overall, this is a great domestic thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Thank you to the publishers and @netgalley for providing a free advanced copy of this ebook and audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! Alice and Leo recently moved to the Circle, a beautiful gated community. While their neighbors seem nice enough, Alice soon discovers that everyone has secrets. And someone will go pretty far to keep those secrets hidden... This book is filled with rich characters and a twisty storyline that kept me guessing all the way through. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator’s voice was lovely and had me fully immersed. I would absolutely recommend.

This highly anticipated domestic suspense novel is based in an exclusive neighborhood called The Circle. Alice and her new live-in boyfriend move in and try to acclimate to their new home. At least until Alice finds out that the previous owner was found murdered in her now-bedroom. Alice, a therapist, takes matters in her own hands and begins investigating Nina’s murder. The members of The Circle are all too quick to keep the past buried so are they conspiring against Alice to keep her quiet?

Well, this will be a very short review. Unfortunately, I don’t have much to say other than this is a very sloooooooow burn with very little suspense in my opinion. We go around and around with Alice’s obsession over Nina’s affair. There are so many unreliable and suspicious characters, and a few were just red herrings. It was hard to keep all the characters straight. I was able to predict the perpetrator which would’ve been fine but it was anticlimactic for the long build up.

Thank you @netgalley and @macmilliamaudio for the ALC!
