Great read for those that like romantic suspense! When a homicide detective is called to a scene and finds pictures of his best friend and a beautiful woman. He starts asking questions. Alana has moved back home. She has a secret. When Aidan, the detective, starts asking questions she tells him her secret. A secret that could get her killed!

Dianne McCartney was new to me, but she had me hooked with the political angle and dirty gubernatorial candidate. This story has an old-fashioned stalkery vibe, and the string of dead bodies and photographs focusing on reclusive writer Alana Drake draw homicide detective Aiden Reese’s attention. There’s more of a suspense than a romance, but the pace was enjoyable.

The Road to Justice by Dianne McCartney

Relatively quick easy read that has suspense, romance, and a bit of sleuthing. This story was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

What I liked:
* Alana Drake: author, assault survivor, strong, independent, business owner, successful, straightforward, liked her.
* Aidan Reese: detective, decorated military war veteran, homicide detective, intelligent, well-liked, good friend, supportive, good brother, liked him.
* The four dogs…Satan was superb
* Kate and Meg: Aidan’s sisters – they could have stories of their own
* Brian: ex of Alana’s with potential as he has improved with age…I think.
* The relationship being balanced between Aidan and Alana
* Aidan’s superior office at the police department – Mullens seems like a good guy
* That good overcame evil.

What I didn’t like:
* The person(s) I was meant not to like
* Knowing that abusers, rapists, and such live, breathe, and often get away with what they do.
* I felt that Dean was a bit simplistic in his thoughts and actions for someone his age with his supposed background BUT it was fine for the quick read it proved to be.

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? I think so

While it didn't make me go wow, this is a good story. I liked Aiden and Alana and enjoyed their relationship. There isn't much suspense as we know the bad guy early on. There is tension at the end which made it worth the read.

As I read this story, I knew I was going to love it. As I continued reading, the story seemed familiar, but I wasn’t sure. I finally realized that I had read it before, but I so enjoyed it that I read it again! Detective Aidan Reese is trying to collect evidence against a man who he believes has abused and raped women. The difficulty is that the man is extremely wealthy and running for governor. When Aidan interviews Alana Drake, who knew the man years ago, he is impressed by her charm and strength and is very attracted to her. When she begins to receive creepy threats, they have crossed the line from friends to lovers. I like that the author is up front with who the prospective villain is and enjoy as he is thwarted at almost every turn. I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed her smart, strong heroines and the men they love. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. This is the first book I've read by Dianne McCartney. It's a romantic suspense novel, and kind of police procedural. It didn't make me go "wow", but it kept my attention and I enjoyed the read.

A homicide detective, Aiden Reese, is investigating a powerful man who is a suspect in the abuse of women and the death of a photographer and one woman. During the investigation, Aiden questions Alana Drake, a writer living alone on a ranch. Aiden had found photographs the photographer had in his room with Alana in them. Aiden believes she may be a target. The book follows the investigation with tension and suspense. There's also a sweet romance involved.

This was a well-written, action packed book, and was a quick read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I while it didn't captivate me, it did keep my interest enough that I wanted to keep reading. I liked Aidan and Alana, and they make a good couple. The suspense part of the book is more enthralling than the romance, so I would label this one as a suspense book with some romance thrown in, rather than vice versa. I tend to personally prefer a steamy romance with some underlying suspense, and that's probably why this one wasn't off the charts for me. Just a personal preference. The story is well written, though, and definitely worth the read.

The Road to Justice is a decent romantic suspense. While it didn't knock my socks off, I found it to be a pleasant enough read.

Romantic suspense writer Alana meets homicide detective Aiden when Aiden sets up a meeting with her to discuss a case he's working on: a gubernatorial candidate who may or may not be a serial rapist and murderer and who also happens to be the cousin of Aiden's best friend Brian. If that weren't enough of a coincidence, as it happens, Alana is Brian's former girlfriend (from about two decades ago) and the subject of stalker-y photos that tie back to said gubernatorial candidate Dean. Dean assaulted Alana decades ago and has apparently decided to target her again. Hence the meeting.

Alana and Aiden hit it off at once and hook up almost immediately. If I found it strange that Aiden starts dating a potential witness, Aiden explains it away at some point as just how real life is for cops. Their relationship develops steadily during the course of the book, interspersed with moments of arrogant creepiness and escalating violence on the part of Dean. While I liked both characters, I feel like we needed to know more about them (especially Alana) to understand their attraction toward each other.

As a villain, Dean is a little over the top. With him, there's no sense of mystery. It would have been more believable, perhaps, if we could see him charming his followers while taunting his former victims. Instead, almost no one who knows or meets him is fooled, except for Brian's mom (Dean's aunt), who herself is a caricature of the snotty, entitled socialite.

The supporting characters are hit or miss. Brian feels off to me. I couldn't figure out what he and Aidan have in common. Aidan's sisters seem cool, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a story for Kate in the near future (abusive ex, hunky woodworking neighbor).

Otherwise, the plot moves at a decent clip, though some parts seemed rushed and there were a few loose ends that I would have liked resolved. Saying more would venture into spoiler territory, however, and I don't go there!

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

Though it had a promising plot, the dialogue felt wooden and the relationship seemed forced.

Detective Aidan Reese is investigating several crimes against women by a man who is running for governor. One attack has led to murder and Aidan is afraid there will be more deaths if he can't get the proof he needs. Two women have already changed their minds about testifying in court.

One woman is left ... Alana Drake, who coincidentally once dated Aidan's best friend and cousin of the man he's looking to put away. Living on a secluded ranch with her dogs and horses, she's not happy when a detective arrives on her doorstep.

The attraction between the two is unexpected. Shortly after they meet, Alana is being stalked ... has the man who assaulted her years ago now found her? Is this the man Aidan is looking to put away?

This is a romantic suspense in equal doses. While intimate moments are intense, they do not cross over into the erotic. The characters are finely drawn, It's action-packed leading to an explosive conclusion.
