Set in Norfolk in WWII, this delightful book is the first in a new series. Discovering new-to-me authors and books is great fun and I look forward to what else Keith Finney has planned. I really enjoy the banter between American Lt. Eddie Eisner and British Anna Grix who poke fun at each other's vernacular. Do know there is a glossary at the back should you require it.

Quiet unassuming Eddie is on a mission in England runs into bold and unflinching Anna, the vicar's daughter. Their relationship becomes an amateur sleuthing partnership when mystery and murder hang in the air like impenetrable fog. A local's body is found and the rush is on to find answers. Of course things are not what they seem. People aren't, either. Blackout curtains twitch as locals watch, whisper and gossip. Locals dislike being prodded about the past. Sneaky secrets surface as a motive is sought. But murder isn't the only crime on the agenda...

True historical details such as mentions of Churchill and rationing are introduced beautifully, making the story more realistic. I love to learn and absorbed this book like a sponge. Those who enjoy bits of history with their mysteries ought to read this.

My sincere thank you to Lume Books and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this charming book!

A tad slow and convoluted. I really struggled to get into this one as I just did not care for the main character at all.

The local postman has been found dead, although it seems accidental his wife believes there’s more to it. She asks the local vicar’s daughter to look into it, which she does with the help of an American airman.

There are some strangely formal uses of language, such as referring to a bike as a conveyance. I found the repeated use of the word “companion” (when Anna the Vicar’s daughter was with someone else) quite irritating. As well as the way that the characters were referred to using a description (American/old man/constable). I really wanted to like this book, I enjoy a murder-mystery, but I just didn’t like the writing style. I found it a slog to read.

A brilliant story of a lady called Anna who is the vicar's daughter who is literally run off her feet by a handsome young American lieutenant while she is investigating a so called accident.
Anna and Eddie team up because something doesn't seem right about the accident and Anna is very persuasive in her quest.
The police rule accident, Anna and Eddie suggest otherwise and dig deeper into the situation for another accident to occur as they are getting closer to the truth.
Wonderfully written and it draws you in from the start, loved the characters and the storyline uncovering blackmarketing, gambling and murder along the way
