What a fun book! I absolutely loved the colors and story! I will definitely be utilizing the rhymes in every day life to help my daughters remember patience! They want to read this story over and over!
This is such a good story to read with your children covering patience! It seems to be one of the biggest teaching struggles to go through with your children but this book covers it in such a relatable way for the children. I highly recommend you add this one to your bookshelf!
I am a little torn on this book...
It is clearly designed to appeal to young female readers. There is a lot of pink, purple, sparkle and unicorns going on. And overall this did not at all appeal to my 6 year old boy. He just wasn't the target audience, which is fine. However, once I got him to look past the pink-ness of it all, he really enjoyed the story, and he surely benefitted from a lesson on patience!
As a parent I would have enjoyed more varied strategies to practicing patience than just counting to ten repeatedly, and the same little mantra got a bit boring for me.
Overall, middle of the pack book for me, but if you have a very impatient young girl (or boy) at home who loves unicorns, give it a try!
This was such a sweet story! I love children's stories that have a positive message, and the importance of patience can be so difficult to teach. The rhymes were sweet and funny, and the illustrations were so bright and colorful! I would definitely get this book for my kids and recommend it for any parent. Such a sweet book on teaching patience for young readers. The story is catchy and definitely teaches an important lesson especially in today’s day and age where everyone wants everything immediately. My sons keep asking to read this one again and again. Thanks to Boys Town Press and Netgalley for the Digital review copy.

Very lovely pictures with a simple story, I personally love reading rhyming stories out loud to my daughter. And kids loves the repeated passage of good things come to those who waits. Bonus for the unicorn yak drink, which little kid wouldn't want to try it?
Good Things Come to Those Who Wait is about a little girl who has a favorite slushy. She tries to be patient all day long but when she finally gets to go after school, the Slushy Shack is all sold out! This is a story about patience for children who struggle with waiting. The art isn’t bad, but there’s that one really weird curl that doesn’t blend in on Cora’s head and it really bothered me. I wish they’d taught a variety of coping skills instead of just counting to ten multiple times to illustrate that different coping skills work at different times and for different people. If I were selecting books for my children at work to teach them patience and coping skills, I probably wouldn't pick this one.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
This vibrant picture book follows a young girl named Cora June who's having trouble being patient after being promised her favorite drink after school. The bright colors work perfectly for the Unicorn Yak Cora June is so excited about, and this book offers good ways to help parents teach kids to be patient. The rhyme and concept of the "patience muscle" are great ways to improve time-telling and handle impatience!
This was a cute story with a good lesson about patience. My kids loved the message and thought the illustrations were very colorful. They are 8 and it was easy for them to read by themselves. The Unicorn Slush was particularly fun and something my daughter really liked.
Rating: 5/5 stars.
“Good Things Come to Those Who Wait” is a children’s book by Julia Cook with illustrations by Kyle Merriman. The message of this book is simple and is right in the title. The theme is the importance of patience, and developing the ability to wait and be patient with yourself and with others. The adorable and bright artwork fit the positive tone of the story well. I appreciated the diversity included in the characters and illustrations. The rhyming nature of the text flows well and keeps the reader’s attention. The guide for parents and educators at the end of the book was a great addition.
I loved this book and I highly recommend it for all young children to enjoy with the help of a parent or older reader.

This book was so sweet. I loved the art style and the whimsy of the slushy. The lessons of patience are really well done and important for this little girl. I loved how spunky she was, it's always refreshing to see young girls filled with spunk.
Good Things Come to Those Who Wait by Julia Cook is a cute story about a young girl named Cora who’s learning the importance of patience. Having patience can be difficult at times, and I think the story expresses the lesson in a way that’s understandable for young kids. Additionally, the colors used for the illustrations are bright and eye-catching which will help hold the attention of younger audiences as well - plus the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! I also loved how the end of the book has tips for teaching patience to young children which may be beneficial for parents.
This is one of my fast favs! The illustrations are perfect for the story. So sweet that Julia Cook wrote the book for her daughter. This well-told story did a wonderful job setting the scene for a hidden lesson about patience. The topic of patience is one that is so important in our fast-paced world. Well done Julie Cook and illustrator Kyle Merriman.
this was a pretty good book about patience and had a cute little rhyme to help littles (and some adults) breathe and be patient. It was a little quick in my opinion to really show patience but for a kid that doesn't have too much patience it's probably a perfect length. I liked the art work and that no one got angry with Cora, they just kept repeating be patient and the rhyme to help her learn to how to self regulate.
I read this aloud to my five year old daughter.
She enjoyed the story, the illustrations, and the Slushy Shack. As soon as we finished, she asked if we could read it again tomorrow. A cute story about being patient.
Exactly what I was looking for! This is a perfect learning book for kids and to help them understand the beauty of patience. It was such a pleasure to read this with my littles and made it very easy easy them to understand. It sparked a great conversation thank you!
Let's make some notes about this children's book, shall we?
1. Excellent colour with a unicorn slushie/milk shake. Seriously, it's epic. If you had to judge a book by it's cover, the cover is excellent!
2. A book about patience and learning to wait. Let's be honest, waiting is hard even as an adult. It's a hard lesson to teach, but having books to help try is a good thing!
3. Just all around colourful illustrations that are engaging and fun. I like it!
4. The facial expressions are on point. Also, the orange cat. That is all.
5. I can relate to wanting school to be over. I remember my days day dreaming and staring at the clock as if that would go faster.
6. Patience tips at the back are a MUST. What a fantastic way to add in a pinch of education into this book.
I think this is a great read about patience in a fun and engaging way.
Four out of five stars.

Cora June really struggles waiting for that amazing unicorn slushie. They are various learning opportunities where she has to learn to be patient. This is a great book for young children.
This was such a cute book that teaches kids the importance of being patient! I will definitely be buying and reading this book to my niece!
This is a cutely illustrated, partly rhyming children's picture book about a girl who needs to learn some patience.
Her mom has promised to get Cora June a special treat and she can't wait. She also needs to wait for her turn to speak at class, and handle her disappointment when the store was out of Unicorn Yak slushies. The moral of the story: "good things come to those who wait. / Being patient makes you great./ Breathe in deep and count to ten. / If that doesn't work, try it again." That is memorable and it makes for a lovely teaching moment between adults and the children they're reading this book with. .
Some of the dialogue is a bit repetitive and I think awkward for the sake of the rhymes. Like Cora June's slushy order: "I would like my favorite slushy/ from your Slushy Shack. /It's topped with sprinkles and cotton candy. /They call it Unicorn Yak!"
This is not a very natural way to state your order to the person who works at Slushy Shack and puts the sprinkles and cotton candy on top of the Unicorn Yak they're selling you.
