Axel and his mother live in a small house surrounded by neighbors who have become family. Axel is fascinated by birds and loves to spend time observing the eagle’s nest near his home. Axel thrives on routines, structure, and time doing what he enjoys with the people—and animals—important to him. After a tornado damages his home and the eagle’s next, his orderly life becomes chaotic. Between the return of his absent father to make repairs to their home and the injuries sustained by one of the eaglets from the eagle’s nest, Axel must deal with many changes as his home is repaired and the eaglet heals. Readers will be engaged with Axel's journey as his home is rebuilt and his family heals. Axel and several other characters in the book have autism. This book represents each of them in a way in which their autism does not define them, which is an important message to present to readers.
