An intense and fascinating political thriller which had me gripped from the beginning. The characters were were well rounded and believable and I was fully absorbed in the story which I think would transfer well to the screen, either as a film or television drama. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys political thrillers.

This is a political thriller with a bit of mystery and romance to it. It focuses on the story of three families - Kingsleys, Sheppards and Barronses, a star crossed couple and the fight for political superiority which leads to terrorism, corruption, death and much more devastating consequences. It shows the political rivalry between the US and Libya which is under the authoritarian rule of Gaddafi.

The story starts with U.S. Senator Temple going on a search and rescue mission to find two abducted sixteen-year-old kids Lilah and her friend Harry. After the death of her parents, Lilah and her twin Dan are left with the only option to live with their brother in law who wants to legally adopt Dan. Both Lilah and Dan reject his proposal for adoption but Andrew is determined to get Dan at any cost.

When the political situation in the country is already getting worse day by day, Lilah's sudden trip to Libya to meet Harry makes it more disastrous. They are abducted by someone they were unfamiliar with and encounters far more dangerous circumstances. The news of their abduction reaches Senator Temple who is already in the guilt of his actions in the past goes on a mission to search and rescue them.

Who kidnapped Lilah and Harry? Will they be able to escape from the hands of the kidnappers? Will the political rivalry ever end between Libya and the US? Why is Senator Temple on a mission to save Lilah and Harry? How are the three families interlinked?

The story was fast-paced with interesting twists and turns. The characterization and the narration are very good. All the characters are unique and see given equal importance throughout the book. Lilah's strong nature and her presence of mind and determination in facing the situations at hand is just brilliant. I loved her character in the story.

The story has multiple POV's which makes the story more fascinating. It shows how people for the sake of power go to any extent to achieve what they want. The characters feel so real and the description of violent activities are done perfectly. Altogether it was an emotional roller coaster and a page-turner with an engaging plot that keeps you hooked till the end.

I don’t know how much of this was historically accurate and how much was fictionalised because this was so carefully balanced as a story. A thriller in the truest sense of the word, this book keeps the pace while also making you stop and think. I found myself analysing the characters actions, speculating about their motives and holding my breath for the next twist. A touch of Gresham, perhaps, but I am sure this author will build a reputation of their own.
