Thanks to NetGalley for an audiobook review copy. This was a fun choose your own adventure book, a quick read and so very funny. A humorous-fun-funny audiobook book.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* LMFAO this book is hilarious, never read a "choose your adventure" as funny as this. Was laughing out loud the entire time i waa reading this 😂😂
Well this one was really out of my comfort zone and completely different to anything I have ever experienced before in the book World.
I actually attempted listening to this audio book a few weeks ago go and and just couldn't get to grips with it.
Didn't know this style of book and I couldn't connect. Was actually left a little bemused!
However I have given this another go and I was shocked that after just two chapters I found myself giggling.
A man who is a wolf, pretending to not be a wolf and trying against all of instincts to fit into a human world.🤣🤦🏼♀️
It's actually very very funny! The narrator is excellent especially when he is being the wolf and talks deep voiced shouting about eating chicken and such like. No spoilers!
This book is the style that you choose what happens next. Go to Chapter blah blah and I ended my wolf journey rather suddenly and hysterically but then even revisited for a different alternative version which kept me giggling still.
If you want something different and a bit weird then I would recommend this book! It's most unusual.
As I say it is not my usual Style but it was quite refreshing and weird at the same time.
Who knew being a wolf was so difficult haha 🤣🐺
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews mcmeel publishing for giving me an advance copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review. As I am registered blind I love audiobooks. . It enables me to keep reading! So thank you! 👐📖📚
I will also post my review to my netgalley account and add links when I work out how to! Apologies!
I ADORE this book!!!! This is one of the funniest things I've read in a while and it was SO much fun!!! I LOVE Choose Your Own Adventure stories and this one was hilarious, charming, and such a great way to spend my afternoon! I was pleasantly surprised to find how easy it was to navigate the audiobook to different choices and I have to give huge props to Jay Aaseng for this top notch narration!!!
A funny book for anyone! But even funnier if you are familiar with the twitter account. However I don't think it really works as an audiobook as you have to "turn" to certain chapters as it's like the "choose your own adventure" books. So you really can't listen hands free.
Thank you NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun choose your own adventure book, during the story you're a wolf trying to blend in with the human world.
This was a lot of fun and a quick read. I would highly recommend.
A fantastic and hilarious read. I absolutely loved this brilliant satirical piece that pokes fun in a light hearted way towards human nature and corporations. A wolf disguised as a man has successfully integrated himself into society...but just barely. The dialogue is funny but nothing beats the thoughts of this wolf who contemplates the human world through his wolf brain. A completely different species, a completely different challenge. A choose your own adventure book with many different choices and different endings, you get to decide how the wolf’s day goes. The narrator did a phenomenal job and I absolutely loved this book through and through. You are encouraged to re-read it over and over to rethink your decisions. A wonderful read with great and hilarious narration. This book brought me a grin that could not be wiped!
This book was so hilarious and fun to listen to! Here we have a wolf who is sort of covertly going about life acting and working as a man trying to fit in, living his every day life while the humans among him are so caught up and involved in their every day lives and tasks that they don't even realize they are walking, talking and working alongside an actual wolf instead of a human (aww, good old social media distractions, right!?) I loved how the narrator depicted the wolf's voice, it was so deep and rugged and it cracked me up every time!
This was an interactive book, so you had choices on which way you wanted the story to go. It was fun in that format, but I think I would have preferred a straight through format myself instead of jumping around. Either way, however, this was a great plot for a storyline and I had a lot of laughs and fun with it. I am happy I listened to it on audiobook format, because that narrator did such a fantastic job and it was a hoot! I would recommend this book and I gave it 5 fun stars!
I would like to thank #NetGalley, the publisher Andrew's McNeely Publishing, and the author, Daniel James Sheehan for my audioARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
I requested the audio ARC of this book on Netgalley and am leaving my honest review of it voluntarily.
The author has a popular twitter account called SickOfWolves that I admit I hadn't heard of, but also I'm not on Twitter. This book is supposed to continue in the same funny vein as the Twitter handle, with social satire and commentary on our daily lives told from a humorous perspective.
I picked this title for several reasons - 1) I'm trying to request more audio ARCs 2) It ticked off a funny book challenge I'm doing for the month 3) I was super intrigued by the quirky title. Needless to say, this book not only checked all those requirements but also turned out to be a big, pleasant surprise.
This is the story of a man who's really a wolf but the people he interacts with every day don't know about his secret identity. Also, it's a first person narrative so the wolf/man is really you! Using this outlandish idea as a premise, we start off our day. From chapter to chapter we go about our daily routine - wake up, breakfast, commute, office log in, water cooler gossip, socialize over lunch, colleague's farewell, personal obligations etc.
What I enjoyed about this story was the style of humor employed - it wasn't slapstick or overtly in your face. It's more of a satire that engages you with wit and little bursts of perceptive genius that come from shared experiences. e.g. everyone has at some point shown up late to work, got caught up in a dilemma over work-life balance, toed the fine line between being vulnerable with a co-worker or coming off as aloof. I identified with several of the instances narrated throughout the story. The metaphor of the secret identity is really clever as it gives you insight into the way you present yourself to others and how they perceive you in turn. It's so subjective and reflective in many ways.
The story is also presented in an interactive way - at the end of certain chapters, you get a question based on which you are directed further to the point you should jump to. In this way, you're not really reading all the chapters but based on your choices, you determine how the story plays out. Like another reviewer here said, I'm tempted to go back and pick differently just out of curiosity as to what the alternative story(ies) might've been.
I'd recommend this book to everyone looking for a good, subtle, multi-layered story that simply aims to delight and delivers in leaps and bounds.
I loved this! I had never heard of the account beforehand, but this is such a creative idea! The thought that a wolf could just walk around and live a casual life with a roommate and a 9-5 office job is ridiculous but not in a bad way, it really works! I also loved the narrator, he did a fantastic job setting the atmosphere and adding to the humor. There were a couple places where I felt like there should have been a choice the way it was being set up but it turned out there wasn’t, but there were plenty of routes already in place. Your choices actually impact the story a lot, which I found exciting and nerve racking. This is a super cute and innovative story!
Well I have to admit this is a very different book since you choose your path while reading. A light and funny read about a Wolf pretending to be a man in a corporate world. The audiobook made me feel that a Wolf was really explaining his thoughts and ideas.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC #NetGalley #IAmNotaWolf
INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUDIOBOOK:
I am Not a Wolf is told from second person perspective and it follows your everyday life as a wolf who is pretending to be a human, wanting to lead a peaceful life among them. You have a stable job at an office, an apartment, and even various dating profiles (because you kind of suck when it comes to love). Everyday you go to your relatively boring job, socialise with the same annoying co-workers, and cohabit with a weird roommate, all just to hide your big secret.
It is an interactive story following one of nature's biggest predators; each choice you make will impact your life and will ultimately determine whether you'll keep on living as a human or give in to your primal instincts and return to the wild way of living.
OPINION:
4-4.5/5 Stars
If someone asked me to summarise the book in just a few words, I would describe it as 'a satirical choose your own adventure book for adults'. I was instantly hooked, after just the first chapter I knew I wanted to figure out all the endings and listen to it as long as I could. Throughout the book the narrator (…I mean you) makes mean comments about the humans and' yet they are being said in oblivious type of way; they are clearly observations you are making and you don't realise how critical you are being (just like a wolf would)…
There is tons of satire and dark humour throughout the book, such as the Wolf getting his suit from a dead man he found in the river or the humans' weird addiction to coffee. It makes it absolutely hilarious as the MC cannot comprehend why the humans do or say certain things. The humoristic exchanges between the characters are well thought through and made me laugh a lot.
You find yourself in different situations as different scenarios unfold; romantic dinners, awkward yet funny office conversations, and more. The choices you make are viable to the story as they will lead to different outcomes, sad, happy, funny, and honestly even a bit unsettling.
The way the MC (yes you), handles different situations are strangely relatable. When I first started the book, I wasn't expecting to find him so engaging. I was able to relate to his struggles in his workplace, and his eagerness to make new friends but being afraid to reveal his true identity.
I found his relationship with his co-worker Mike very entertaining. The MC's descriptions for him and "his weird lunch" made me cackle a lot. It's safe to say we all know someone like Mike; an annoying friend or co-worker that doesn't know how annoying he truly is.
As I played through the story multiple times, I got to experience a number of different endings. One of them was pretty funny, the other one kind of cute and romantic, while some of them were upright creepy and unsettling. You can choose to be good and diplomatic by being honest, or more savage and cruel by embracing your inner wolf.
I would like to make a small comment about the narrator before I sign off. I believe the choice of narrator was absolutely wonderful and his voice worked perfectly for the character he was portraying. His voice and way of speaking immersed me into the story I was listening to.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall, it was a funny story that I would listen to again without trouble. I wouldn't recommend it that you listen to it while you can't get on your phone as you will have to change the chapter every few minutes depending on the choices you make.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for this ARC.
You are a wolf, pretending to be a man. In this choose your own adventure book, you decide what choices to make to live what you believe to be a successful human life and avoid being outed as a wolf.
I love books where you get to choose your own story, and this one did not let me down! I had to go back and take the other paths I did not choose the first time around. I was a little worried about navigating the choices via audiobook, but I found it easy to jump to the appropriate chapters. Jay Aaseng did an excellent job narrating the audiobook. A clever satire of the human life
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.
I received a copy of this audiobook for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I, apparently, live under a Gen X rock as I had never heard of the author's twitter account. That said, I don't think I would have enjoyed this book in print as the narrator was able to breathe so much life into the story. This is a choose your own adventure book, so be prepared to skip around within the audiobook if you want to approach it as you would in print. I didn't really care for one of the branching story lines, but that's probably to be expected in a book of this nature. Some of the abrupt endings because of poor choices were quite funny. A quick and easy read or listen.
I AM NOT A WOLF AND I WAS NOT PAID IN HAM TO REVIEW THIS BOOK. I AM A HUMAN MAN AND CAN TYPE AND DO TWITTER JUST AS WELL AS ANY OTHER HUMAN MAN WHO IS SICK OF WOLVES THANK YOU VERY MUCH. HOW COULD I TYPE IF I WAS A WOLF? EXACTLY. I BET THAT GAVE YOU PAWS FOR THOUGHT. THANK YOU I AM HERE ALL WEEK. DID YOU SAY YOU HAVE HAM? ANYWAY, I AM NOT A WOLF IS A BOOK THAT I DID NOT GET PAID TO REVIEW. IT IS BY DAN SHEEHAN THE HUMAN MAN BEHIND THE TWITTER ACCOUNT SICK OF WOLVES. IT IS A CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE BOOK ABOUT NAVIGATING THE HUMAN WORLD AS A WOLF AND TRYING TO PASS YOURSELF OFF AS HUMAN. WHO DOES THAT? LOL. NOT ME. I AM A HUMAN MAN. I USED TO READ CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE BOOKS WHEN I WAS A HUMAN CHILD. I ALSO USED TO CHEAT AT THEM BY READING ALL THE PAGES AND PICKING THE ENDING THAT I LIKED THE BEST. THIS BOOK IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU'D EXPECT IF YOU ALREADY LOVE SICK OF WOLVES BUT IT IS ALSO A STROKE OF GENIUS. THE FACT THAT I REALLY LOVE CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE BOOKS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THE SATIRE IS OBVIOUS, OF COURSE, BUT ALSO ON POINT. THIS IS THE SORT OF BOOK THAT YOU WOULD FIND INCREDIBLY FUNNY EVEN IF YOU WERE A HUMAN MAN PRETENDING TO BE A WOLF AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. BUT WHO DOES THAT? GIVE ME YOUR HAM.
This was a fun listen. It is an adult "make your own adventure" which took me back to the stories I read when I was younger. Enjoyed this one.
This book is silly, wild, and surprisingly relatable despite being about a wolf trying to make it in the human world. I picked it up on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did an amazing job. I laughed out loud more than once because of his delivery! I decided not to follow the choose-your-own-adventure structure because I like to know all the possibilities and I wanted to hear every chapter, but this didn't take away from the story for me. I actually enjoyed it more knowing all the story arcs Sheehan came up with.
I'd recommend this book to fans of the TV show The Good Place.
Huge thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I Am not a Wolf is a choose-your-own-adventure audiobook. I was searching for this type of book lately, but it is not easy to find one.
In book format, you flip the pages back and forth based on your decisions. In the audiobook, you get instructions to move through different chapters. My opinion is that this book is equally good in both formats, and you can choose whichever you like more. Or maybe you can even try to listen to the audiobook and follow the story in the book. That is what I did.
I enjoyed the story and narration a lot. And I would recommend it to those who like choose-your-own-adventure books, or those who appreciate reading something different for entertainment.
Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this! All opinions are my own.
I must admit I liked getting to choose where the story would take me, but that's about it. I understand there are choices people in the corporate world make and those choices spill out into their personal lives. I guess this story simplifies how those choices impact their lives.
I'm not really on Twitter so I wasn't aware of Dan Sheehan and his Not a Wolf account. But I grabbed this as a Listen Now on NetGalley because I love a good laugh (and I also needed to complete a Bingo space for my LoveARCtually challenge, no shame!)
This completely delivered on the humor. The premise of the book is you're a wolf, masquerading as a man, going through a typical Friday at your office job. It's set up as "choose-your-adventure" style book, with scenarios such as use public transportation or get a rideshare to the office. I'd actually go back and redo the book to see what hilarious things were in the alternate options!
The audio narration is really well done, with great delivery and timing needed to nail the humor. I even loved the wolf voice!
This book gets bonus points for uniqueness and extra bonus points for being dead-on about corporate culture. This is a perfect gift for that coworker you used to tell jokes with over the cubical wall who you now IM during meetings to watch them try not to laugh during video conferences.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the chance to laugh over this! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
