I have just read books 1, 2 and 3 back to back. Lucky me also has book 4 to dive into. It's great playing catch up on a series when you are really enjoying it.
Really enjoyed getting to know the characters and the formidable Jane Phillips. Jane is a character i'm really liking. Along with the team that working with her these are a good group of characters.
This turned out to be another great read, gripping and enjoyable.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Great book! It took me a bit to finish this book, I'm not sure why but I think it got pushed back in my queue unfortunately lol but this book was awesome! It had suspense, action, intrigue and a psycho killer!! It was a little bit gorey at times but it was a great storyline! I highly recommend reading this book and series! They're well worth reading! Suspenful read,full of twists. Even though we now the killer the excitement and suspense continue through the story. A good read.

Awesome book! I have already started reading the others. I love thrillers that have twists and turns. This book definitely had me guessing all the time. The characters are really well developed and personable.

This is another great read from OMJ Ryan.

It is a wonderfully well-written plot and storyline and had me engaged from the start.

Great suspense and found myself second-guessing every thought I had continuously.

You find out the killer from the start, so this brings a different perspective and exploration within the plot.

We get more of an insight into the police work involved in tracking him down as the net closes in.

A new and interesting take on a serial killer a refreshing new storyline the killer has a strict agenda based on earlier murders.a gripping story keeps the reader guessing for a long time a real page turner.

A great crime thriller, I was totally hooked from the beginning until the last page .Part of a series, it is fine as a stand alone . I liked the characters and liked the descriptions of their thought processes . Mentions of events which presumably took place earlier in the series were relevant and not done to death. The crimes were interesting and realistic. I liked the South Manchester setting . Though I had my suspicions early on, the book keeps up the suspense .

Loved this book! If you are a fan of CSI you will like the inner workings of this group of characters. The story is well done and fast paced. I never lost interest in what was going on.

I received a free copy of this book and just devoured it. It was my first book by this author but it certainly not the last. Even though this book is the most recent in a series, I did not felt lost in there and the few references to past instalment didn’t muddy the pond one bit.

I raced through this book, finding it extremely enjoyable and exciting. I was desperate to get to the ending to learn who the killer was and how everything was going to be resolved.

Even though I haven’t read the other books in the series this wasn’t off-putting, this book can easily be read as a standalone. If anything, I will now probably go back to read the other 4 books as this one was such a good read. I really liked DCI Phillips as a strong female lead and enjoyed the workplace dynamics with the other police officers and her boss. I felt that there was a good balance struck between getting to know the characters and the fast-paced murder investigation.

I thought the ideas of the murders were really interesting. Having the murders based off famous serial killers gave them a randomness that made it more difficult for a suspect to be identified and their actions to be anticipated. Seeing both the murderer and the police side of things made the story especially tense as you could see how close the police were to figuring things out at times. There was a real sense of dramatic irony as you understand the murderer’s motive and know what is going to happen before the police do. Also, even though we had the murderer’s point-of-view, there were still a few surprises which was good as that often isn’t the case.

This is the 5th in the series and I am not sure I have read all in the series but each one can be read as a stand alone without a problem.

In this installment Phillips is chasing a copycat killer who is using the MO of other well known murderers. But other than the copycat nothing seems to show why the victims are chosen. But soon Phillips is figuring things out little by little.

This is a very easy read. Great beach read as we are heading into that season. The reader stays interested and the suspense keeps you wanting to turn the page but the story is not one that requires the reader to use a lot of brain power to enjoy.

Looking forward to the next in the series.

Deadly Obsession by OMJ Ryan is the 5th installment in the Detective Jane Phillips crime thriller series and is a gripping cat and mouse chase with the police racing to catch a psychopathic copy cat serial killer. The book has quite a masculine action/adventure style even though the protagonist is female. After an intriguing start, the dialogue sometimes appeared a little unlikely or bland which contributed to the feeling that the characters were somewhat one-dimensional. However, I'm glad I persevered because the plot is a real page turner. I haven't yet read the previous books in the series but all the relevant background was explained. Overall, a good read.

At first I didn’t realise that this was the fifth book in the set and was unsure if I’d pick up where others had left off, but not sure if these need to be read in order as I managed to pick up the storyline easily.

Love a who did it, and this had me turning the pages to find out who was the copy cat killer.

I really liked DCI Jane she was fearless and smart! Now I’m gonna have to read the other 4 I guess to see what I’ve been missing

This was a solid police procedural. The story was well paced and held my interest. I felt the characters could have been developed a little bit more.

A cat and mouse game with a psychopath killer. This plot takes us into his dark deranged thoughts. For Jane and team it probably is one of the hardest with the games he is playing. Once again there is the pressure to solve.

The body of a naked woman is discovered in a Manchester park. Her murder has all the hallmarks of a notorious killer known as the Suffolk Strangler. But there’s a problem – the Strangler is serving a life sentence in prison.

So is this just a coincidence? Or is there a copycat killer on the prowl?

I loved this book. The serial killer aspect was creative and reminded me of something you would see on Criminal Minds, It was fast moving, without losing details along the way and the murders happened regularly enough to keep me entertained. I enjoyed the flicking between the perspective of Phillips and the Killer - which was done in such a way that we did not know their identity until much later in the book. I liked the creative ways the murders were set out, and the links between those who were killed. The book also touches on interesting topics - mental illness, elder abuse, homosexuality etc.

The characters didn't have much depth to them, but I think this worked. I did not finish the book thinking "I wish I'd known more about the characters'.

Overall a fantastic read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I've been following the Detective Jane Phillips series since the beginning, and I always seem to have a great time with each book. It's no surprise that I wasn't able to resist book number five Deadly Obsession, and I'm happy to say that it turned out to be one of my favorites of the series so far. An engaging writing style, a fascinating plot and serial killer character, lots of plot twists and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat... Oh yes, if you enjoy detective thrillers you will be in for a treat with this one.

First of all I have to say that while you can technically read Deadly Obsession as a stand-alone, I personally wouldn't recommend it. True, the case Jane Phillips and her team have to investigate in book five is completely separate from the previous books, so you won't have issues following the case without reading the previous books. BUT. You will be missing out on the character background, development and the dynamics between the team as they evolve over time. Especially why Jane and her team feel so relieved that Fox is no longer (directly) in the picture! I'm myself more than happy to see the back of her as she was highly irritating as a character, and I much loved the new dynamics with Carter.

Part of the reason Deadly Obsession turned out to be one of my favorites of the series is the plot itself and the serial killer. Talk about an original take on a serial killer! I loved the references to the past (I recognized more than one name as I do love my true crime as well) and how everything was incorporated into the story... The plot development and investigation itself were entertaining to follow, and I liked the building up of suspense and how the plot twists were incorporated into the plot.

While there isn't that much personal development this time around for Jane or her team, I personally didn't mind as the previous books give them plenty of background. I always have a great time meeting up with Jane and her team and I really like their dynamics as well as their banter. The invitation of the psychological profiler Dr. Siobhan Harris also gave the story a little something extra, as did the part with the press of course. But the main focus is still on the good old detective investigation, and I always love that.

In short, I once again ended up having an excellent time with this series, and if you enjoy a good detective thriller with an absolutely fascinating serial killer case, Deadly Obsession will hit the nail on the head.

In this latest installment of the series, DCI Phillips and her team are investigating murders that appear to be copycat killings, but of a different serial killer each time. This makes it almost impossible to guess where or when the perpetrator will strike next, as the modus operandi changes each time. We also see from the killer's point of view, and he is indeed as disturbed as they believe him to be. He's determined to gain notoriety for the type and number of his crimes, succeeding where other serial killers failed, by leaving no evidence behind. And let's just say there's a bit of family drama where he is concerned!

The story also explores DCI Phillips's relationship with her new boss, Chief Superintendent Carter. As they are still getting used to working together, she is sensitive to his every criticism, no more so than when he brings in a profiler to assist with the case. She takes this as a lack of faith in her abilities and becomes more determined than ever to prove that she's got what it takes to bring the killer's reign to an end.

As always, this was an engaging, fast-paced read. The playful dialogue between the team members keeps the story flowing, and you can envision these officers doing their best to maintain their sanity as they work themselves to the bone hunting for the killer. But how many more victims will there be before they find him? There's no lack of famous serial killers to emulate, so the team better hurry!
