This book about Bailey the bat whose curiosity outweighs their sleepiness and ends up rescuing a tangled moose is too cute for words. Which is probably good seeing as it has more than the average words for a picture book.
It is a suspenseful adventure book that is targeted towards more mature young readers. Its the perfect bridge from picture books to more text heavy titles for readers who are looking to advance their reading skills but aren't ready for the plunge.
The story features two characters that become unlikely friends in the face of adversity. What isn't to love about this book?
Would highly recommend.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This is a cute book about a bat who can't sleep and hears an animal in distress and goes out to help. This book is for older children or for parents to read as it has a lot of text for a book its size.
Bailey the bat loves to explore during the daytime. His mother keeps telling him it's time to go to sleep. Bailey does his best to be a good bat and stay in his cave, but he just can't help himself. On a daytime adventure he encounters moose, who is stuck and about to be attacked by wolves. Bailey alerts his family and they work together to help save moose.
I love this story, and my daughter liked it too. She was so upset when Bailey broke her mamas rules, but when she realized she did it to help the moose she kept saying "awe Bailey is a good friend". That is something I liked quite a bit, the author was showing the kids what it means to help people in trouble and to be a good friend. The artwork was so cute too!
Bailey the Bat was a cute book with beautiful illustrations. Bailey and the other bats hunt insects at night and sleep in the day. Bailey can't sleep and when he hears a cry or moan, he sets off to see if someone is in trouble. He finds a moose that needs help and even though Bailey knows he will be in trouble, he calls for his mom and other bats to help rescue the moose. This is an early reader story that I read aloud, then my grandson read it to is siblings. This was a well written story that built up nicely with a happy ending. There was adventure, some trouble and finally a group working together for an exciting end. I was a bit worried about Bailey sneaking out, but it is addressed in the story and Bailey had a consequence for his actions. We all enjoyed this story and it was quite tense at one point. We liked the illustrations, as they were fun and showed great expression. There are some good messages in this book about helping others, working together and of course listening to your parents. If this becomes a series, I look forward to seeing what other adventures Bailey gets up to.
The art on this book is adorable, and I like the story as a whole, but the text itself felt father long. By halfway through my kids lost interest. This isn't one that we would read again.
Bailey the Bat and the Tangled Moose is a picture book that shows the importance of helping others and teamwork. I would suggest this book for children about 6 to 8 as there is a lot of text. I liked the illustrations and how it showed bats working together to rescue a moose.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
Cute illustrations and a fun story! I like that Bailey the Bat is never given a gender. The text might be a little long for younger readers, but it's a good read.
I enjoyed reading Bailey the Bat and the Tangled Moose. Cute and creative story that is good for children as it is an example of helping out someone unlike yourself because they are in a dangerous situation. Bailey the Bat goes makes bends a rule about going out during the daytime when he should asleep because he hears the moose calls. When the moose tells Bailey he needs help, Bailey does what he can. However, it is not enough. In the end Bailey's bat family helps him to rescue the moose. Nicely illustrated.
I enjoyed this story of a young bat determined to help their new friend, a young bull moose. The story has more text than most picture books so it could be good for a slightly older audience. I enjoyed the story and the illustrations. It's a great lesson in helping someone, and also asking for help yourself.
This book about a brown bat who leaves his roost to save a moose who's been tangled in a fence makes for a perfect stepping stone for children moving from picture books to chapter books. I loved the suspense and Bailey's problem-solving, and the art style was perfect for a story taking place in the woods. I do wish the white blurred backgrounds around the text in darker illustrations had been more consistently blurred across the book, but other than that this book was quite charming!
Little Bailey the Bat is hung upside down and told not to leave the hollow tree by his mother because she knows that he has trouble sleeping during the day as bats are nocturnal creatures. Bailey hangs there wide-eyed unable to drift off to sleep.
"On this particular morning, Bailey heard a very loud and very sad sound coming from somewhere deep in the forest. It sounded almost like an upset foghorn."
Whatever could be making that sound? Curiosity overcomes him and he takes flight out of the roost to find the source. Bailey discovers a distressed young bull moose whose antlers are tangled up in ropes that are tied to an old fence. On one side of the fence hunters are present and on the other a pack of hungry wolves are hunting for their morning meal. Oh my! Can a small bat rescue the poor moose and set him free from imminent dangers?
This debut book is full of adventure and suspense... two things that kid's love in a story. The illustrations visually capture the tale and are full of emotion and action. This book is a perfect stepping stone towards kids moving into early chapter books and an excellent pick for emergent readers. I highly recommend "Bailey the Bat and the Tangled Moose."
Bailey the Bat was an adorable book with beautiful illustrations. My 6 year old immediately connected with the little disobedient bat, as he as well is always way too busy and excited to sleep!
Instead of spending the day sleeping Bailey the bat goes out on an adventure and makes a new friend in the process.
Being a children's picture book, I was rather surprised by how well the story built up! There is a well defined beginning, middle and ending and really, at the height of the conflict the story got pretty intense and my kiddo was fully invested!
As a mom I was glad to see that the little bat got grounded for breaking the rules, even though he saved a creature in need... can't run off without telling anyone, especially when everyone else is sleeping! However, I also really appreciated that in time of need Bailey wasn't afraid to call his mom for help anyway! That was a really good hidden message in the book and I will be working this into my lessons plan for sure.
Overall, great book and if Bailey ends up going on more adventures, we will be ready to join him!
Cute story for kids to learn that they aren’t too small to do something helpful or “big”. The story was great and the illustrations were perfect!
This book was adorable and I really enjoyed reading it!
It’s got the cutest illustrations, a clear plot and an engaging story. The main character is a little bat named Bailey, whose gender isn’t specified. I loved the gender neutrality, and the fact that the hero was a quite unusual animal.
Bailey the Bat and the Tangled Moose is a story of friendship and adventure, it is about helping others but also asking for help and working as a team.
This might not work for every child, as Bailey leaves the cave when their mom told them not to and initially goes to help the moose by themself, when they should’ve told an adult right away. But it can also start a nice discussion about that with the kid.
I really liked this book!
A cute story about helping others for middle to upper elementary students. The illustrations are cute and the language is engaging but the plot fell a bit flat for me. Bailey did still break his mom's rules to do the right thing.
There were some things I loved about this book, and some things I didn’t. I loved the team work and helping others aspect. I loved how Bailey looked outside himself to help someone in need. I loved how the bats and moose all came together to save the baby moose. But as I read with my 6 year old son, I didn’t really like how Bailey left the cave when his mom told him not to..... I understand it’s a book about a bat, but I still wasn’t a fan of the child going out to help a child. That’s what adults are for! I did like that it opened a conversation with my son about “tricky adults” and how he needs to talk to me if someone needs help. Overall, this is a cute story with great illustrations, but I don’t think it will work with every child!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Orca Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. Bailey the bat meets and helps Matty the moose. This is such a fun book. Not typical to think of a bat helping another animal! Loved it 5 stars
This was an adorable read about a baby bat who helps save a baby moose! The story was great, and so were the illustrations!
