This is a fun, inspiring, and informative book that will motivate you to get out and explore the world around you. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to live a more fulfilling and adventurous life.
Here are some of the things I liked most about the book:
Hummer's writing is engaging and humorous.
He makes even the most mundane topics seem interesting and exciting.
Hummer provides a wide range of field trip ideas, from budget-friendly options to more elaborate adventures.
Hummer's advice is practical and easy to follow. He even includes a planning checklist to help you get started.
Every Day is a Field Trip is a book that asks you to take life as a journey, filled with exciting activities. I liked the author's evergreen curiosity about everything and his zeal to take new adventures, even though he was scared for a few of them. Every day is a field trip is a book that will propel you to take action and embrace life.
Every Day Is A Field Trip is the perfect book to help shake off the pandemic blues, while still staying safe. The “trips” in the book don’t take you to far away places but remind you to play tourist in your town. This is a great book for families!
Thank you to Jay Hummer, Sparkling Day Press, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Fun book on making the most of every day and every opportunity.
Basically, Jay Hummer calls adventures and experiences "field trips" and finds them everywhere.
Whether it needs to be called a field trip is questionable, but he is right about one thing: we need to live more, enjoy more, explore more, and enjoy the small things in life. I love that attitude and not enough of us do it.
It is very much US-based so if you are outside, the pages of specific information and trips around won't be of use to you, but the sentiment still counts.
Inspiring, though-provoking, a call to action....all fitting for this book.
The premise is that we should look at every day as a new exciting day that lies ahead, and rather than just getting through the day, actively seek enjoyment, novelty and fun.
By the end of the book you will hopefully have a new appreciation for your days, looking at them from a more optimistic and curious perspective.
I found this an easy and enjoyable read. I would recommend it.
This was a quick and inspirational read to find excitement and adventures in your everyday life. Some of the suggestions seem pretty obvious, but it surprised me that I hardly ever do any of it. This book is a nice reminder to just get up, make a plan and live all of those micro adventures that are waiting everywhere around you.
What is a field trip? It's anything that shifts your perspective, fires up your imagination, shows you something new, or challenges your comfort zone. Jay Hummer certainly understands field trips! He's taken some amazing trips in his lifetime and encourages readers to take field trips each day, too, whether it's smelling flowers or climbing mountains.
I did enjoy the short chapters and action steps. The book is easy to read in one sitting or over time. There are also plenty of tips in this motivational book that help readers plan field trips. Many of the tips cost money and take time, though, that Mr. Hummer and his family were able to take but that families like mine can only dream about. In that respect, the book feels like a fantasy and not reality. Also, the last quarter of the book focuses almost exclusively on Mr. Hummer's climbing adventures, which takes away from the field trip idea and should be a memoir of its own.
Overall, this book is a fun read and reminded me to look for ways to have fun, enjoy life and take field trips every day.
This was such a fun book! This was a quick and easy read with ideas that you can take into your own life. The writing was always very positive and easy to comprehend! I really enjoyed how every “field trip” idea had a story to along with it as wel!
The perfect read for anyone looking to embrace every moment of life and have fun each day. If you’re ready to stop living life through screens and instead do some real-world exploring, then get yourself a copy.
It is a wonderful guide from author that encourages a adventurous life through field trips. Author takes example from his own life and describes various places in US and various activities that can make your like wonderful. A guide to live life like a field trip.
Pretty much everything about this book can be gleaned from the title alone. Could be a cute essay but not meaty enough to recommend in book form.
At first I wasn't so sure about this book. When I started reading I thought the chapters were too short and underdeveloped. I wanted to know more. But the more I read, the more I enjoyed what I read.
The author, Jay Hummer, talks about field trips he has taken in his life. If your definition of a field trip is similar to mine, you will find that his definition is very loose. Basically any activity, adventure, fun game, trip, vacation, etc. can be a field trip. At some points I thought this was a cute use of the term and at other points I was annoyed and wanted to yell, "Just call it a vacation!" or "Playing a game outside as a kid is not a field trip!" But I eventually got over it and started to enjoy the book.
It mostly goes in chronological order or events, activities or trips he has taken in his life. Like I said, the chapters were really short. If you are looking for a storyline or a plot, this book is not for you. If you are looking for small anectodes that are REALLY RELATEABLE, this is definitely for you. It was an easy, fast read. I found myself smiling and nodding a long in almost each chapter, because, like I said, they were so basic, I think most people can relate. Some examples are your first baseball game, going on a hike, going on a school trip, going to Vegas, etc. I found that while I read I wasn't so much as engrossed in his story as I was how I relate to his story.
Downloaded this book hoping for something akin to Jenny Odell's The Art of Doing Nothing, a slightly more radical perspective on breaking away from the screens and exploring our communities. However, this was more dad-centered personal narratives woven in with some rather obvious activity suggestions. A bit hokey but probably great for other middle-aged, suburban dads.
A very quick and easy read about how to make your life full of field trips with many suggestions on how to get the most out of your field trips. It expounds on the living in the moment or being present with yourself as you navigate life. We all have choices and where can we choose to see life as a fun journey with field trips like we were all excited for in school Great read, recommend for those looking to add to their enjoyment of life and making of a great bucket list!!!
This is an entertaining book about making everyday life situations into field trips. In other words, creating an environment for enriching one's life by planning to do things every day and also being in the moment learning and enjoying what happens day to day. Whether it be a taxi ride, volunteering in the community, learning something new...the author suggests ways to live life more richly. It is an interesting perspective that they author presents. I enjoyed his personal stories that he meshed into each chapter. I also like that the chapters are brief and to the point.
