Very good book This book was as good as Hank’s other book Relly like her books because they are set in the news world
Thanks to Hank and Netgalley for the chance to review this book
Written alternating between two sister's life stories, this is an exciting story of choices made and their sometimes catastrophic results. The book has a fairly limited cast of important characters, but what impact they make on the reader! At times it is hard to decide exactly who to root for or against.
The many shifts between present and past were written so well that the reader could flow between the years effortlessly, something that is often abrupt and abrasive in books. The style gives the reader a great objective, and aided by the theme of family love, gives readers cohesiveness and supreme satisfaction.
Without a doubt, author Hank Phillippi Ryan has written another spectacular story, complete with fantastic characters, ruthless decisions, and shocking surprises. It is hard to put down mid-book! I loved it even if I disliked some of the characters and actions! A must read for mystery and suspense lovers!
I appreciate Forge Books and NetGalley allowing me to read an advance copy and present my own review opinions.
Book Review for Her Perfect Life
Full feature for this title will be posted at: @cattleboobooks on Instagram!
Wow! I mean all caps, WOW! I have not read a book this fast in years, but I honestly couldn’t put this one down. This psychological thriller is a character study about family and choices (good and bad ones). It’s about innocence and second chances. Oh, my! The story is centered around a television investigative reporter named Lily who is known as #PerfectLily because that is how her life seems to be. She has a producer named Greer as her friend, a nanny named Petra to take care of her household and the most darling little seven year old named Rowen that anyone could ever hope to meet within the pages of a book. But all is not actually perfect in Lily’s life because when she was about Rowen’s age, her beloved older sister Cassie came into her room and told her good-bye and then vanished. Lily has always wondered what happened to Cassie, but there are no easy answers and even though she has the intelligence and connections to find her, she hasn’t been successful in her quest. When a confidential informant starts feeding Lily and Greer information, they are a little wary but the tips are useful so they choose not to look a gift horse in the mouth. When Lily starts getting strange gifts, she begins to suspect that what the detective had told her about Cassie may not be the truth. Her investigation and its effect on her life is the crux of the story, but there is so much more to it! You just have to read it to find out why I am absolutely in love with this book and cannot recommend it highly enough. Secrets, lies, betrayals! The characterization was perfection and the plot was captivating from beginning to end. As I said, I couldn’t devour it fast enough and know that you will want to get your hands on this little jewel as soon as possible. Just book a weekend away to read it because you will want to keep reading until you have found the mystery to #PerfectLily.

This is the first book by Hank Phillipi Ryan that I read and I just love her writing. The writing was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages as fast as I could read them. The characters were wonderful and enjoyable. this books is filled with twists and turns and an ending I never saw coming. HER PERFECT LIFE is as suspenseful as it is fast-paced and exquisitely thrilling. This is a wild ride I think you will highly enjoy.
This is Hank's best one yet. She does a masterful job of balancing multiple point of view characters, and makes you empathize with each one, even when they do dumb or unlikeable things. It's an interesting story line that covers years of the characters' lives, and there's also a cute kid that will have you rooting for a happy ending. The story grabbed me right from the start and kept me engaged throughout. definitely a five star read.
I loved this book. In this taut thriller Hank Phillippi Ryan draws on her knowledge of television to create a page-turning standalone. Three voices narrate the story that spans twenty-five years. Lily, the talent, scrambling to keep her flawless image, but finding perfection hard when the past invades the present. Greer, her producer, deeply invested in keeping Lily’s image polished bright, but finding being behind a celebrity can pinch. Cassie, the sister Lily doesn’t talk about, who disappeared when Lily was seven. Ryan cleverly winds the perspectives of the three women like a spring, ratcheting up tension as the reader tries to decide who to believe - if anyone. Highly recommended.
I thank the publisher, author and NetGalley for the review eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
Another fast paced, unputdownable, engaging, and well written thriller for Hank Phillipi Ryan. I love her unique, realistic style and perfection at character development and although this one took a bit longer to grab me, it did grab me and keep me riveted until the final page. Lots of fun twisty turns, thrilling thrills, chilling chills, and gasp worthy shocks! Would definitely recommend to my fellow thriller lovers, and fans of Ryan’s work in the past. I’m sure it’ll keep you riveted in a realistic, but chilling way!
Will buzz around platforms and use top Amazon reviewer number on release!
I'm a fan of this author and have read some of her other books, so I was predisposed to liking this. And, I did. Some of the characters made me feel uncomfortable. But their interactions felt real most of the time and the story was such that it was impossible to put it together which meant that the ending was a true surprise. I'm not sure it is her best work, but it reads smoothly and if you're looking to escape your own world, this one is a good place to be.
I was so lucky to receive an advance copy of Her Perfect Life by Hank Phillippi Ryan in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I was beyond excited as she is one of my absolute favorite authors. Loved it… read this in one sitting.
One of my favorites for this year so far!
Highly highly recommend.
Thank you netgalley and Ms. Ryan for allowing me a chance to read and review this book and what a book it was!
Just when I thought I had something figured out, it changed. To me that's what makes a great suspense thriller. Happy the book kept me guessing and actually having to think!
I'm glad there was closure on all the different lines to the story. I do have to say though...Greer was NOT my favorite!
Thanks again and look forward to adding this one to my Hank Phillippi Ryan section of my library when it comes out. Highly recommend if you're a fan of suspense that doesn't let up!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. Hank Phillippi Ryan is a favorite for me in this genre. I was beyond excited to have received and ARC.
True to Ryan's style, this books is filled with twists and turns and an ending I never saw coming.
The writing was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages as fast as I could read them. The characters were intriguing. The storyline dealt with secrets and the lengths people will go to keep them hidden. What makes a perfect life and what lies beneath the surface of one that looks so?
I was completely intrigued by this cast of characters and web of stories that brought them together. I read a lot of thrillers and I was surprised by the ending to this story.
2 stars ⭐️⭐️
Lily Atwood is a popular television reporter with an anonymous source who provides her with juicy tips and stories. All is fine and dandy until the source begins telling Lily her own secrets... how does he or she know? And how far will Lily go to keep her secrets safe?
I DNF this book at about 30%. I just didn't connect with the characters or the story. I usually skim read to at least get a little closure but to be honest I didn't find it thrilling and wasn't really interested. 🤷♀️
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
HER PERFECT LIFE by Hank Phillippi Ryan
Suspense thriller
336 pages
In Hank Phillippi Ryan's newest standalone book we have reporter Lily Atwood. Reporter, mother, and a woman with a dark past and secrets she'd like to keep hidden. Lily's life is perfect because she made it that way and will do anything to keep it that way. It seems like she can until someone starts digging to uncover her past and threatens her perfect life. Lily's life is about to get crazy in the way only Hank Phillippi Ryan can write it.
Wow and whoa are the only two words I can use to describe Her Perfect Life!!!!!!!!!!! This book is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! It has Hank Phillippi Ryan's signature style of keeping readers guessing and thinking Oh my gosh while reading!!!!!! Towards the end I had it halfway guessed but it took me awhile to get this one. I still didn't guess this whole thing though. My mind is blown with this story though!!!!!!! I highly recommend this book.
First, thank you to the publishers at Macmillan-Tor/Forge and Netgalley for this e-ARC of Her Perfect Life.
Her Perfect Life revolves around news media star, Lily Atwood, and her seemingly perfect life. With her producer, Greer, her daughter, Rowen, and her nanny, Petra, Lily’s life can’t get any better. She’s even getting insider tips on hot news stories from an informant that only goes by the name “Smith.”
But Lily’s life is far from perfect, because when she was just seven years old, her older sister, Cassie, disappeared, never to be seen again. It’s been over 20 years, and Lily still looks for her in every face she comes across.
That’s when things begin to turn sinister. Smith begins encroaching on Lily and Greer’s lives, saying they have information about Cassie that nobody knew about until now. If word gets out about Cassie, Lily’s perfect life will go up in flames; the scandal of it all!
This is a slow-burn novel. The action is slow to start but quickly picks up the longer you read. So many new angles are introduced, and quickly, so it was a bit hard to remember all of the new details, but by the end, most of the answers were revealed to us.
I really felt Lily’s emotions during this read. She’s nervous, jumpy, and constantly on the lookout for danger, not only because of her job and fame as a news woman, but because of her sister. I also enjoyed the fact that the author didn’t feel the need to drop F bombs in this book. She is also a pro at bringing the story to life with her impressive and colorful use of language. I could see every detail in my head!
If you enjoy books with a good twist, or in this case, twists, then you’ll want to grab a copy of Hank Phillippi Ryan’s new book, Her Perfect Life, set to release September 14!
Wow! This is one twisty ride that will have your head spinning and the pages turning at blazing speeds. Lily is a TV journalist and social media darling, who’s been riding the wave of successful tips from a confidential source. When that source suddenly provides a tip that’s too close to home, Lily’s world is upended. The story goes in many directions, deftly interspersed with a “before” backstory that pulls everything together. Rockin’ roller coaster good, with tons of suspense that you’re ridiculously eager to see where the plot goes next. One of the best I’ve read this year. Absolutely 5 stars! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fantastic !!! So many good twists and turns I stayed up till 6AM to finish it. I just love the character Lily, the author is so good at giving us and developing characters we feel like we know. I don't wanr to give anything away but this book hooked me from the first sentence. I feel very lucky to have received an ARC, hope I get one of the next book.
I liked this one a lot, BUT....I usually LOVE Hank's books. The story was interesting and had a really cool twist and a nice wrap-up so it's hard to put my finger on exactly what kept me from loving it, but my main issue was believing that any 18 year old could be that naive. C'mon! Just blindly accepting and not ONE question??? I can't go into detail without spoilers. I was also hoping for a little more from both Greer and Lily. Lily is extremely self-centered and Greer keeps her "perfect" while secretly resenting her. I was hoping for a little more from that relationship, I guess. Again, no spoilers. I also felt that both Greer and Lily were a little too naive to be a seasoned producer and reporter. But all in all, a good book and I look forward to more. I also suggest you read all of Hank's previous books.
Thank you to #NetGalley, Hank Phllippi Ryan and Forge Books for this ARC!
