What is it like to live a life filled with celebrity, fame and perfection? Are all of those carefully curated Instagram moments a glimpse of perfection achieved or perfection perceived?
I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Lily as she went about living her life. This book was filled with many stunning twists and turns, truly a satisfying page-turner.
Perfectionism…was Lily’s life actually perfect? What price was Lily willing to pay in order to protect and maintain her perfect life?
Lily had skeletons in her closet…carefully guarded, buried and almost forgotten skeletons. The skeletons became restless. Ordinary moments began changing into suspiciously sinister happenings.
Secrets, so many secrets. Carefully guarded secrets are impossible to keep forever. They begin to seep through cracks, and they long to be set free.
Lies, so many lies had been told. Some were told to protect, while others were told to destroy, threaten and manipulate. Will the truth ever set anyone free? Will it end anyone’s freedom?
Many life lessons were learned. Every single decision affects what happens next. And my personal favorite…choices and consequences play a huge part in the game of life.
Such a suspenseful and engrossing read. It kept me guessing until the very end.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Forge Books through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
5++++ Wow, just when you think you guessed it, they flip it on you! Didn't see that end coming at all. Fantastic book! Kept me reading chapter after chapter. Gripping, twisty, thrilling, intense.
Looking forward to reading more by Hank Phillippi Ryan in the near future. Highly recommended.
Perfect Life, Family Secrets, Murder? All the great stuff a book should have!
I want to thank NetGalley, Macmillan-Tor, Forge Books for this ARC.

This was the perfect (pun possibly intended) book to remind me not to trust anyone..
Lily Atwood has it all-a big following, a cushiony job, and a daughter. But when something from her past resurfaces, it threatens her comfortable life as she knows it. Her reliable source knows a little too much about her own life and she must uncover the truth of what’s happening before it’s too late.
Overall, I give this book 4 stars out of 5. I really enjoyed the plot and even the sub-plots. The twists were good and were definitely unexpected.
Thank you to @getredprbooks, @hankpryan, and @forgereads for this copy in exchange for an honest review!
This story didn't pull me in like I thought it would. It moved a little slow for me.
I enjoyed Lily's character as a whole but didn't get drawn into the other characters like I would have liked. I thought a few of the things the characters did wouldn't have happened in real life. It was like they didn't use common sense for their decision-making.
It was an ok read for me.
Thank you Netgalley, MacMillan-Tor/Forge and Hank Phillippi Ryan.
This is a thriller with dual timeline.
Can we achieve a perfect life and remain perfect forever?
This novel was full of twists and turns and I could not put it down.
Well written and enjoyed the characters especially the little girl Rowen.
Recommend. 4 stars
Another great thriller by Hank Phillippi Ryan. Moving from the present to the past this novel involves a journalist of national fame, her missing sister and her 7 year old daughter complete with many secrets she is keeping. Her perfect life isn’t as perfect as she would like everyone surrounding her to believe. Enter her daughter’s father to further stir the pot of secrets. All Lily wants is to keep her daughter safe and to see her sister again. To do both might cost her everything she has worked for. There is a surprise twist that I didn’t see coming which added to my enjoyment of his latest book. I highly recommend his books.
Another winner IMO by Hank Phillipi Ryan! Loved this book so much! If you like a good mystery suspense you would probably enjoy this book
Ms. Ryan delivers yet another gripping thriller that I couldn't put down. I was totally caught up in the book from the very 1st chapter. I loved all of the twists and turns that were woven into the plot. The characters were well written and the plot was sublime. I highly recommend this book.
Lily Atwood is a famous television reporter known for being perfect. She has a gorgeous young daughter, Rowen, a lovely home, and multiple Emmys. But when Lily was young, her college-age sister, Cassie, just vanished. Then their grieving mother died, leaving Lily alone. Lily and her producer, Greer, have an anonymous source who has been feeding them tips that only increase Lily's popularity. But when the tips start getting personal, Lily begins to panic. Someone is ready to uncover her past and destroy all she holds dear--but why?
"At some point you have to stop looking, I told myself. But still. If she did something truly bad, how much did I want to know? How would that knowledge change my life? My career? Maybe it's better for me to pretend she never existed. But I know she did exist."
This is crazy page-turner with lots of wild plot twists. It certainly keeps you guessing. Lily has the "perfect" life and she and her producer are determined to keep it that way, so that Lily (and Greer) stay on top. It seemed a bit much that Lily's fans would drop her at the sign of one mistake, but I suppose we all understand cancel culture these days...
Neither Lily nor Greer seem particularly likable, with their desire to win at all costs, so I wasn't particularly attached to their characters. I did like Lily's young daughter Rowen. The format of the book, however, is very easy-to-read, with flashbacks to Cassie's life in college interspersed with Greer and Lily's present day narrative. Honestly, college-age Cassie may be the easiest character to root for! Ryan certainly weaves a compelling mystery.
There's a lot going on in LIFE... I can't go into all the threads due to spoilers, but there are a lot of various plot points and sometimes it all seemed like a bit much. The book ended a tad fast, too, considering all those different narratives.
Still, this is a gripping thriller that keeps you on your toes. It illustrates how life is not always perfect... but maybe it does not need to be?
This was a decent read overall, but it's not one I would recommend to my friends. You really have to overlook a lot of details in order to feel like this story could have happened in real life.
Lily Atwood is a beloved TV journalist, but all she really seems concerned with is her social media following. This entire book revolves around all the things that threaten to ruin the #PerfectLily persona. Unfortunately, the big secret Lily has been hiding for most of her life was hard for me to swallow (and I'll leave it at that to keep this review spoiler-free), and even though she's an Emmy-winning journalist, Lily was a little too trusting.
Lily Atwood is a well-known tv reporter. She has won all types of awards, yet, she carries many secrets. She tries to keep her daughter out of the spotlight. Sources feed Lily tips for stories, but then the tips become about her with inside information on her life. She knows someone is out to destroy her life and perfect career. The book explores how far one will go to keep their supposedly perfect life.
I really did like this concept of this book. It I just think personally I did not enjoy this book as much as I had originally thought. This was just a personal thing for me but I really did like the concept of it! Aka why it is only three stars. It really gave me gone girl vibes. If you’re in the mood for a mystery fiction, then this is for you!
This book is also out already!
A thank you to Netgalley for sharing the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The first word that comes to mind is hmm...I have to say that I struggled a bit to get into this one. Having really enjoyed Ryan's release last year, The First To Lie, my expectations were pretty high, but this one failed to live up to par. The characters were interesting enough, yet less developed than I would have liked, so failed to connect. The underlying mystery was serviceable and entertaining, but far from captivating. I would call this a decent beach and/or lazy day read when you want a less 'thinky' mystery and just want to kick back and relax.
No one in this book is likable or interesting, and there are so many aspects of this that are so absurd it was hard to take seriously. One positive thing I can say about this is it was wrapped up decently.
Her Perfect Life is a quick moving story with a lot of twists and turns. Unfortunately - it was a little too convoluted and far fetched for me. There were too many moments when I thought characters were making choices I just couldn’t get behind. This wasn’t a hit for me. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the free ebook to review.
Slow moving domestic drama...
Lily Atwood is famous as a television reporter but her personal life is kept secret from her coworkers and fans. Many think she has the perfect life, but little do they know about her long lost sister and the affair with a married man that resulted in the birth of her precious daughter, Rowen. Perfect Lily is about to get some life changing news and someone is waiting in the wings to make sure that things won't be quite so lovely anymore. No spoilers.
This was a bit of a slog and I found the characters to be banal and insipid. The story was lame and the narrative shifted back and forth between the characters taking away from any tension building and honestly, a lot of boring. I've read other books by this author, so perhaps this was just one I should have skipped, but I didn't really rate it as a thrilling mystery.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan-Tor/Forge Books for granting access to this e-book ARC for me to read and review.
Hank is one of those authors that I preorder any new book she has coming out. I don’t need to read the synopsis or see the cover.. she never disappoints. Her Perfect Life is the perfect novel. This will have you on the edge of your seat! I held my breath, I gasped and was totally shocked.
Thank you Hank for allowing us into your creative and amazing mind.
It was quick to capture my attention, and easy to get into. I thought I knew what would happen, and was satisfied both by the fact that I was kind of right, but there were parts I didn't see coming as well. It's a great read where you are just invested enough in the characters, but don't have to invest a ton of emotional energy into it.
Another DNF for me, sadly :-(
I just could not get into this book the way I would have liked to. I felt that it was extremely slow paced.
This was an okay read for me. I had a hard time really becoming invested in this one. I think a lot of it had to do with the characters. I felt like the actions of the characters did not match up to their jobs or personalities originally described. I found myself saying "well surely they wouldn't do that if they're an Emmy-award winning reporter?" The plot itself flowed beautifully and didn't slow down. I think a lot more people will enjoy this one, it just didn
